For example, Hangzhou International Expo Centre Hotel has built a set of drinkable water system to replace the bottled water supply in guest rooms. Based on the standard of two bottles of water for each room, the drinkable water system can save more than 500 bottles of mineral water per day and thus reduce a great number of plastic bottles in a year.

After the Wichita State University men’s basketball team beat the team from Tarleton State on Tuesday, one player took an unusual victory lap around the stadium. Dexter Dennis stayed after the game to help staff at Koch Arena clean.
Dennis helped lead the Shockers to success, but he didn’t show off. Instead, the soft-spoken college junior from Louisiana did something very humble. The video from the court shows him picking up rubbish in the stands. No one asked him to do it.
The video was shared on Twitter by Taylor Eldridge, who covers Wichita State athletics for The Wichita Eagle newspaper. “Dexter is a different kind of guy,” Eldridge tweeted. The video quickly circulated, which received more than 1.5 million views and tens of thousands of likes.
“Wasn’t in trouble or anything. Didn’t have to. He just wanted to help out the cleaning workers,” Eldridge wrote in another tweet.
“Cleanup can take up to three hours after every game,” Wichita State University Facilities Director David Gomez said. “Seeing a student athlete staying to help is inspiring.”
“We have several people who have been here for many years and I know for some of them, that’s probably the first time they’ve seen something like that happen,” said Gomez. “And I want to say thank you for leading and showing us that there are still people out there who recognize the hard work that’s done around here.”
“It’s crazy that someone who just played the game helps clean up the stadium,” Wichita State student and golfer Max Wojciechowski told KWCH.
Dennis refused KWCH’s offer for an interview and has not responded to CBS News, but did address the moment on Twitter. “Didn’t do it for attention,” Dennis tweeted.
He played for 30 minutes during the game, hitting three of four shots from the field and also entering the top 10 all time for career three-pointers in Shocker history, KWCH reports.
4. What attracted people’s attention about Dexter Dennis?
A. His basketball skills. B. His winning the match.
C. His special appearance. D. His cleaning the stadium.
5. What does the underlined word “circulated” in paragraph 3 probably mean?

A recent scientific report says that more than one-fifth of the world’s reptiles (爬行动物) are faced with extinction. The main threat (威胁) to reptiles is the loss of their natural homes, as humans take over more and more natural areas.
The study, written by 52 scientists, is the first worldwide measurement of how threatened different species (物种) of reptiles are. The new report has shown some unhappy news — 21% of all reptile species are in danger of extinction. That’s over 1,800 species in all.
The main reason why these reptiles are dying out is that humans are taking over more and more of their habitats — the places where they naturally live. More land continues to be cleared to make room for cities and towns. Large areas of land are also being cleared so that they can be used as farmland. Logging — cutting down trees for wood — is another big threat to reptile habitat. Turtles and crocodiles are among the most threatened reptiles. Humans are a direct threat here, often killing these animals for their skin or meat.
Similar worldwide studies of birds and mammals (哺乳动物) were made more than ten years ago. The authors of the report say it was harder to collect the money needed to study reptiles. They believe that’s because furry or feathery animals like mammals and birds are more popular with most people. But even if reptiles aren’t considered cute, they play a very important part in nature’s food chains. One service performed by reptiles that humans should appreciate is helping control certain pests, like insects and rats.
We know what must be done to protect reptiles. Bruce Young, one of the leaders of the study, says, “We have all the tools we need.” Protecting natural areas is at the top of the list. Studies show that saving natural areas doesn’t just protect mammals or birds, but all kinds of animals, including reptiles. So the time is always right to do the right thing!
8. What is the top reason for reptiles’ dangerous situation?
A. The lack of food. B. People’s killing them.
C. The loss of their natural homes. D. People’s cutting down trees.
9. What can we infer from paragraph 4?
A. Reptiles are prettier than mammals.
B. People care more about mammals than reptiles.
C. Mammals are more important than reptiles.
D. Reptiles are better protected than mammals.
10. What is the purpose of the last paragraph?
A. To share some good news. B. To teach some useful skills.
C. To call on people to take action. D. To give people some confidence.
11. What might be the best title for the text?
A. Reptiles Are at Risk of Dying Out.
B A New Report Showed Some Bad News.
C. What Should We Do to Protect Reptiles?
D. Why Reptiles Are in Danger?
C 9. B 10. C 11. A

根据第一段的最后一句“The main threat (威胁) to reptiles is the loss of their natural homes, as humans take over more and more natural areas.”(爬行动物的主要威胁在于,人类不断地占据自然区域,导致这些动物失去了自然栖息地。)
根据第四段的前三句“Similar worldwide studies of birds and mammals (哺乳动物) were made more than ten years ago. The authors of the report say it was harder to collect the money needed to study reptiles. They believe that’s because furry or feathery animals like mammals and birds are more popular with most people.”(十多年前,世界各地均对鸟类和哺乳动物开展了类似的研究。
根据最后一段“We know what must be done to protect reptiles. Bruce Young, one of the leaders of the study, says, “We have all the tools we need.” Protecting natural areas is at the top of the list. Studies show that saving natural areas doesn’t just protect mammals or birds, but all kinds of animals, including reptiles. So the time is always right to do the right thing!”(我们知道必须要做什么来保护爬行动物。
故选A项。
D
Teamwork has been behind some of humans’ greatest achievements — the Beatles’ biggest hits, putting a man on the moon, and the smartphone.
Does video interaction damage the creative process that led to such achievements? Yes, according to new research published Wednesday that found it’s easier to come up with creative ideas in person.
It’s an answer many employers have been searching for over the past two years, as working from home has become normal during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We firstly started the project in 2016 because we learned from managers that innovation was one of the biggest challenges with video interaction,” said Melanie Brucks, an author of the study.
Brucks said she spent four years exploring whether it really had any influence on people’s ability to produce new ideas. She organized 602 university students and divided them into pairs to work on tasks either in person or online. The tasks included coming up with new uses for everyday things. The performance of each pair was determined by how many ideas they came up with and the value of their ideas as ranked by student judges.
Researchers also found that virtual participants spent more time looking directly at their partner, rather than looking around the room. What’s more, she said pairs who were video-conferencing remembered less of their surroundings.
“This visual focus on the screen narrows cognition. In other words, people are more focused when interacting on video, which hurts the broad, expansive idea producing process. Objects in the room can inspire new ideas easier than trying to produce them in heart,” Brucks said.
Jay Olson, a scholar at MeGill University in Canada, said managers shouldn’t rush to get people back in the office or add more face-to-face meetings as a result of this research. “I wouldn’t want to see a company double their in-person meetings hoping to improve their innovation, if this also means doubling the commute time resulting in less happy — and perhaps less creative — employees.”
12. What have many employers been wondering?
A. What leads to creative ideas. B. What damages our creativity.
C. Whether video meetings influence creativity. D. Whether face-to-face meetings are more effective.
13. What were the university students asked to do in the experiment?
A. Find some solutions. B. Present new ideas.
C. Show artistic talents. D. Make everyday things.
14. What hurts people’s producing ideas according to Melanie Brucks?
A. Focusing on the screen. B. Communicating in person.
C. Looking around the room. D. Doubling the commute time.
15. What’s Jay Olson’s attitude to adding more in-person meetings?
A. Worried. B. Unsupportive. C. Uncaring. D. Hopeful.
C 13. B 14. A 15. B

以及第三段“It’s an answer many employers have been searching for over the past two years, as working from home has become normal during the COVID-19 pandemic.(这是过去两年来许多雇主一直在寻找的答案,因为在新冠肺炎大流行期间,在家工作已经成为常态)”可知,许多雇主想知道视频会议是否会影响创造力。
根据第五段中“The tasks included coming up with new uses for everyday things.(这些任务包括想出日常用品的新用途)”可知,大学生在实验中被要求提出新的想法。

根据最后一段中“Jay Olson, a scholar at MeGill University in Canada, said managers shouldn’t rush to get people back in the office or add more face-to-face meetings as a result of this research.(加拿大梅吉尔大学学者Jay Olson说,根据这项研究,经理们不应该急于让员工回到办公室,也不应该增加更多面对面的会议)”可推知,Jay Olson不支持增加更多的面对面会议。故选B。

___16___ Rather, it is an unwritten rule. The 996 work culture is most seen in big tech companies.
There are other forms of work culture, such as 8106 (from 8 am to 10 pm, 6 days per week), 997 (from 9 am to 9 pm, 7 days per week). However, the 007 work culture is the most striking. Under this work culture, an employee would have to work from 0 am to 0 pm 7 days per week. ___17___

下文“Rather, it is an unwritten rule.”(确切地说,这种工作制是不成文的规定。)
上文“Under this work culture, an employee would have to work from 0 am to 0 pm 7 days per week.”(在这种企业文化下,员工不得不从当日0点一直工作到次日0点,一周七天不休息。)
上文“To many people, it means not following the unwritten rules of fast-paced society, such as not buying a house nor a car, not marrying, not having children.”(对许多人而言,躺平意味着不遵循快节奏社会的这项不成文规定,比如不买房,不买车,不结婚生子。) 下文“In the workplace, it is refusing to become a machine for others to make money.”(在工作语境下,躺平即拒绝成为为他人赚钱的机器。)
上文“Some workers refuse to accept the 996 work culture.”(一些工作者拒绝接受996工作文化)指出有些人反对996加班文化,F项“他们认为自己无法同时平衡工作与生活”指出了上文有些人反对996的原因,其中“They”指代上文的“Some workers”,F项引出下文“Apart from working and sleeping, they are notable to do other activities as they are stuck at work and feel constantly tired and pressured.”(除了工作和睡觉以外,值得注意的是,他们还做其他活动,因为他们被困在工作中,经常感到疲惫和压力。)
下文“Many of them feel that to get a good job and a good salary, it is necessary to work hard. They believe lying flat is not a solution for them.”(他们当中许多人觉得为了能够有高薪的好工作,必须得努力工作。
