“Well, we could use some hotdogs.” I was at the local charity food pantry (分发处). They had a thrift shop (旧货商店) attached to it where I would sometimes stop to pick up a sweatshirt or a book for my sons. Sometimes I would also step back into the food pantry and ask if they needed anything. I got help from food pantries when I was a young father with a hungry family. Now, I like to give back.
This time I could see that most of the shelves were stocked with boxes and cans donated by stores. One thing they said they needed was meat, however. Hotdogs were cheap and I didn’t mind getting some. I soon went to the local grocery store and filled my cart with all the hotdogs I could afford.
As I was paying for them, I thought of my own childhood. I could see my mom boiling two hotdogs in a pot. Next she put each one on a slice of white bread with a piece of cheese. To top it off, she would add a little squirt (股) of ketchup. It didn’t cost much but to me it was a feast (盛宴), cooked with love, eaten with joy.
That memory warmed my heart as I dropped off the hotdogs at the food pantry. It felt good knowing that some other little boy or girl out there would soon be having a happy lunch. I left the pantry with a smile on my face. And as I walked to my car, I could feel my mom smiling down on me from heaven (天堂).
The truth is that, when done with love, giving and receiving are the same thing. It all comes back around again.

When Ariella Pacheco was a little girl, her parents let her choose an American Girl doll. She picked one with a hair color and style that matched her own. “She looked like me, and I felt there was a piece of me in her,” said Pacheco.
“You see yourself in a doll, and it’s really special to have that connection.”
But what about children with medical conditions who don’t look like anyone else? Pacheco wanted to give these children the same gift she got as a child. Over the past several months, she has made dolls for kids who have unique facial appearances.
Pacheco, a senior at Cathedral Catholic High School in California, US, got the idea for the doll project after remembering a magazine story about “A Doll Like Me”. This is a project that makes custom dolls for children with disabilities. Pacheco reached out to Fresh Start Surgical Gifts, an organization that provides free surgery (手术) and other medical treatment for children. She asked if she could create similar dolls for some of its customers.
For this project, Pacheco watched doll-making tutorials (教程), then designed her own patterns and figured out how to make dolls that looked like her customers. It was important to her that the children could see themselves in the dolls, but that their differences would not be the most noticeable feature(特征).

Zulema Gillett got one of Pacheco’s dolls. She said she loves the idea. “Who doesn’t want a doll that looks like them and that they could relate to?” Gillett said.
Michelle Pius, chief development officer for Fresh Start Surgical Gifts, was impressed by Pacheco’s dolls. “It was a very kind and big-hearted gesture to make dolls that will help a child feel like they’re not alone.” Pius said.

One day Tony told a lie to his mother. And he felt very unhappy all day. He did not want to play with other children at that time.
He sat on the doorstep alone. He looked up in the sky and saw the big round moon. He thought that it was looking down upon him, because it knew about the lie. He ran down the street to get away from it, but it kept following him. Then he went into the house and went to bed, but the moon looked at him through the window. He pulled the sheet over his head, but he could not sleep. Then he lay under the bed in the dark. He thought and thought about the lie.
At last he decided to tell his mother all about it. He told her the truth and she forgave him. He promised not to tell lies any more.
He went back to bed and fell asleep soon. He dreamed that the moon smiled down upon him.
