Kensey Jones teaches a second grade class at St. Michael’s Episcopal School in Richmond. In her spare time, she volunteers at Richmond Animal Care & Control (RACC), and she recently found a way to help the animals find their way home just a little bit faster. Kensey spoke with Christie Peters, director of RACC, who also happens to be the mother of one of her students. They cooked up an idea to introduce the class to a rescue dog named Snow, then give them the task of writing persuasive stories and making drawings from the dogs’ perspectives(角度). These works would then be placed on the shelter animal’s cage. “I’m a very cute dog, ” one child wrote for a dog called Famous Amos. “Don’t you love my name? Do you love me? I hope you do because then you can adopt me!”Each of the drawings is 100 percent unique as well as being incredibly cute. Christie knew the project would be a hit as soon as she heard Kensey’s idea. “The class was working on persuasive writing, and they wrote pieces as if they were speaking on behalf of the shelter dog trying to get adopted, ” she said. “I said, ‘Let’s do it.’”“I’m so proud to see my students write amazing persuasive paragraphs through the eyes of one of their RACC dogs, ” Kensey explained. After meeting Snow, the kids were allowed to choose an adoptable dog from the list of those available at RACCThe kids were then told of the dog’s unique personalities, likes, and dislikes. In the end, the students wrote about 24 stories! So far, eight animals have gone home after their new owners read their letters! Kensey and Christie both hope other schools will find a similar way to partner with their own local shelters to help homeless pets, too.1What do we know about Kensey Jones?AShe is a cook at a school.BShe is a caring and creative lady.CShe encourages kids to adopt dogs.DShe works with RACC to rescue dogs.2Why were kids’ drawings and stories placed on the shelter animal’s cage?ATo impress potential adopters.BTo rescue the homeless dogs.CTo get pet owners’ evaluation.DTo comfort the dogs in the cage.3How do Kensey and Christie feel about the outcome of the project?AIt’s unexpected.BIt’s discouraging.CIt’s challenging.DIt’s beautiful.4Which can be a suitable title for the text?AWriting Adorable Letters.BTraining Kids’ Imagination.CAm I A Very Lovely Dog?DDo You Love Animals?【答案】1B2A3D4C【解析】这是一篇记叙文。 根据第一段最后一句“In her spare time, she volunteers at Richmond Animal Care & Control (RACC), and she recently found a way to help the animals find their way home just a little bit faster.(在业余时间,她在里士满动物护理与控制中心(RACC)做志愿者,最近她想出了一种方法来帮助动物更快地找到领养家庭)”可知,在RACC做志愿者说明Kensey是有爱心的,想到新方法说明她是有创造力的。 根据第四段第一句“Each of the drawings is 100 percent unique as well as being incredibly cute.(每一幅画都是100%独特的,而且非常可爱)”及最后一句“The class was working on persuasive writing, and they wrote pieces as if they were speaking on behalf of the shelter dog trying to get adopted,(全班同学都在写劝说文,他们写的文章就像是代表试图被收养的收容所里的狗在诉说一样)”可推知,以动物的口吻诉说被收养的需求,可以更吸引人,由此可推知,将孩子们的作品挂在动物的笼子外是为了给潜在的收养者留下深刻印象。3. 根据最后一段“So far, eight animals have gone home after their new owners read their letters! Kensey and Christie both hope other schools will find a similar way to partner with their own local shelters to help homeless pets, too.(到目前为止,已有八只动物在新主人读了它们的信后被领回家了!KenseyChristie都希望其他学校也能找到类似的方式,与当地的收容所合作,帮助无家可归的宠物)”可知,KenseyChristie都希望其他学校可以效仿她们的方式,可见她们对于所开展的的这一项目是很满意的,认为成果是“beautiful极好的。故选D4.主旨大意题。本文主要讲述Kensey通过让孩子们以动物的口吻写一些话挂在笼子外,来增加这些动物被领养的可能性,结合第四段最后一句“The class was working on persuasive writing, and they wrote pieces as if they were speaking on behalf of the shelter dog trying to get adopted,(全班同学都在写劝说文,他们写的文章就像是代表试图被收养的收容所里的狗在诉说一样)”可知,“Am I A Very Lovely Dog?(我是一只非常可爱的狗吗?)”是以动物口吻说出的话,适合作为本文标题。故选CB2022届安徽省皖南八校高三下学期第三次联考】Stories about sled dogs hauling medicine and supplies through the frozen wilderness have become the stuff of legends, but did you know pups are proving just as powerful in the waves as they are on the ice?In Italy, an elite squadron of 350 specially-trained dogs from the Italian School of Water Rescue Dogs (Scuola Italiana Cani Salvataggio, or SICS) has successfully been patrolling the beaches, working as lifeguards. 300 SICS units, consisting of one dog and one trainer, are tasked with watching over approximately 30 of the country’s busiest beaches. Thanks to their willingness to perform, strength, and fearless exploits-including leaping from helicopters into the surf below to rescue at-risk swimmers-an average of 20-30 lives are saved annually by the doggie guards, and that number continues to climb each year.Earlier this month, when several families, including eight children, were endangered by strong wind and wave conditions while 330 feet from shore, three doggie lifeguards and their trainers rushed in to save the day. With the help of their human companions, dogs Eros, Mya, and Mira pulled everyone to safety in about 15 minutes. The SICS program is the brainchild of 59-year-old Ferruccio Pilenga, who got the idea that dogs would make excellent lifeguards back in 1989 from watching his own Newfoundland, an immensely powerful swimmer named Mas. “He pulled a water-filled boat with three people on board for half an hour,” Pilenga told The Times of London. “A human cannot do that.”The SICS program is arduous. After 18 months of basic training, only those dogs successfully completing the required steps are considered ready to move on to the more intensive aspects of lifesaving techniques, such as jumping from helicopters and leaping from speeding boats.5What can be learned from Paragraph 2?ASICS trains both dogs and other animals.BEach SICS unit has at least two dogs.CThe dogs have rescued about 30 lives so far.DThe dogs’ performance is improving annually.6What is the purpose of Paragraph 3?ATo prove dogs’ loyalty to humans.BTo show how dogs work with their trainers.CTo explain the cause of the accident off the shore.DTo remind swimmers about safety.7What do we know about Ferruccio Pilenga?AHe and his children created the SICS program.BHe got the idea when he was watching a movie about dogs.CHe thought dogs had advantages over humans as lifeguards.DHe lost his dog Mas when rescuing some swimmers.8What does the underlined word “arduous" in paragraph 5 mean?Aeasy Binteresting Cmysterious Dchallenging【答案】5D6B7C8D【解析】本文为一篇说明文。讲述了一个SICS项目所培训的救生狗,在沙漠里以及海浪中救人。此项目要求严格,因此培训出来的狗每年都会救下很多条生命。5.细节理解题。根据文章第二段“Thanks to their willingness to perform, strength, and fearless exploits-including leaping from helicopters into the surf below to rescue at-risk swimmers-an average of 20-30 lives are saved annually by the doggie guards, and that number continues to climb each year.(多亏了他们愿意执行,他们的力量以及无畏的奉献——包括从直升机上跳到海浪中去救有生命危险的游泳者,每年这些狗守卫能救下20-30条生命,而且这个数字每年都在增加。)可知,这些守卫狗每年救下的生命的数量越来越多,因此它们的表现也越来越好,故选D6.推理判断题。根据第三段“Earlier this month, when several families, including eight children, were endangered by strong wind and wave conditions while 330 feet from shore, three doggie lifeguards and their trainers rushed in to save the day. With the help of their human companions, dogs Eros, Mya, and Mira pulled everyone to safety in about 15 minutes.(在这个月早些时期,当几个家庭被大风和海浪困在里海岸330英尺远的地方时,三个救生狗和他们的主人冲去救他们。在它们主人的陪同下,救生狗Eros, Mya, and Mira仅在15分钟之内就将每个人弄到了安全的地方。)可知,本段主要讲述守卫狗在主人的陪同下,将几个家庭从海上救回来,故表明了狗与主人是如何合作救人的,故选B7.细节理解题。根据文章倒数第二段““He pulled a water-filled boat with three people on board for half an hour,” Pilenga told The Times of London. “A human cannot do that.” Pilenga告诉《纽约时报》,它拉了一艘满是水的船,船上有3个人,拉了近一个小时,连人都无法做到。)可知,Pilenga认为,作为救生员,狗比人类有优势,故选C8.词义猜测题。根据文章最后一段“The SICS program is arduous. After 18 months of basic training, only those dogs successfully completing the required steps are considered ready to move on to the more intensive aspects of lifesaving techniques, such as jumping from helicopters and leaping from speeding boats.SICS项目是严酷的。 My weekend______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________【答案】My weekendTo arouse the students’ awareness of environmental-protecting, the Student Union of our school organized a rewarding activity-Tree Planting last weekend.Early in the morning, my classmates and I headed for a hill nearby with tools and seedlings.
