Mistakes are a part of life. I have made a lot of mistakes during my life and learned a lot from them.
I remember several years ago a mistake I made. I planned to fill up my truck with gas for the week. As I drove to the gas station about 18 miles away from my home, I thought of something I needed to pick up at Publix, which was on the way. So I stopped and bought the thing I wanted.
As I turned the key to start the engine, it did not start again. I tried my best to start it but failed. Then, I looked at the fuel tank gauge and saw that it had passed empty, the truck was out of gas. That was a big mistake.
So I called my wife to get a can of gas and bring it to me. I heard silence on the other end, and then I heard chuckling (轻笑). I said sarcastically (挖苦地), T just want to know if you can bring me a can of gas to Publix. " I think she could feel the frustration (沮丧)in my voice. That certainly was another mistake added onto the first mistake. "Oh, " she said, “I might be able to get over there in about three hours. " I did hear her chuckling over the phone. I pretended (假装)I did not hear her chuckling, which was another mistake.
On my fourth deep sigh, I saw my wife driving her van slowly and park right next to my truck. I saw her through the window with the biggest smile I’ve ever seen her wear. She got a can of gas out of her van. Then I emptied it into my truck's gas tank. When finishing, I took my time going to the gas station and filling up my truck. Because I knew I would experience the next stage of my wife, s laugh about my mistake as soon as I got home.
My biggest lessons have come from mistakes I've made. But the lessons only come when I deal with the error and make it right. It's one thing to deal with the mistakes at hand, but it's another thing to be wiser from secret faults.
34. Why didn't the truck start again?
A. Because it was broken. B. Because it ran out of gas.
C. Because it crashed against Publix. D. Because it was out of control.
35. What was the second mistake the writer made in this passage?
A. Buying something in Publix. B. Calling his wife for help.
C. Speaking to his wife sarcastically D. Pretending not to hear his wife's chuckling.
36. The underlined word "it" in Paragraph 5 refers to ______________.
A. the fuel tank gauge B. a can of gas
C. the truck's gas tank D. the gas station
37. Which of the following can be the best title of the passage?

In addition to basic services, pet owners are increasingly paying for many new services, such as training, pet funerals, insurance, photography and entertainment. The growing pet market has also given birth to a large number of new pet-related jobs.
Liu Wei, 33, is a famous pet detective in Shanghai. He and his team work on finding families9 lost pets. "We have successfully helped find more than 1, 000 pets. Besides cats and dogs, there are other pets like birds, lizards and hamsters/ Liu said.

''Searching for pets needs lots of technical knowledge, for example, when we look for cats, knowing their habits is a must, '' said Liu. ''In many big cities, cats and dogs have become an important part of many families and are taken good care o£ What we look for are not just pets, but family members:

Now it's clear that we all need to act on climate change, however, will people really be prepared to make changes in their lives? Can we really remake society to be much greener than it is now?
My answer is YES. I'm feeling optimistic, especially compared to if you5d asked me a few years ago. And that's mostly because of one factor: Batteries. As we watched, over the past ten years, our computers get faster and screens get thinner; batteries have greatly improved too.
According to the European Patent (专利)Office, the number of battery patents grew by an average of 14 percent every year between 2005 and 2018. ___▲_____ the amount of power that can be stored in the same sized battery has tripled (三倍增长)in the last ten years. For example, back in 2012 a new Nissan Leaf Battery could support only around 70-80 miles. Today, the 2022 Leaf can support over 230 miles without needing to recharge. And the costs will continue to fall.
Because of better batteries, last September, 15 percent of all new vehicle registrations (登记) were pure electric vehicles. So the change is starting to happen.
Storing energy has always been a problem for the grid (电网). For a long period, only a bit of electricity is stored for later use, which leads to lots of power waste. But better batteries make it possible to store large amounts of energy from the grid.
Perhaps, in the near future, in our homes, we might also have a big battery in the garage. This would take power from the grid (or maybe even solar panels on the roof), and power the appliances and lights in our homes.
42. What does the underlined word ''optimistic'' in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. 困惑的 B. 失望的 C. 乐观的 D. 满足的
43. Which of the following is the most suitable for ______▲ _________ in Paragraph 3?
A. Moreover B. Otherwise C. However D. While
44. The writer wants to show that ____________ with the example of Nissan Leaf
A. people need to pay more to own a better car.
B. more power can be stored in bigger batteries.
C. the new Nissan cars can run faster than before.
D. the technology of batteries has greatly improved,
45. According to the passage, which of the following is TRUE?
A. Better batteries can well reduce the power waste.
B. The costs of the batteries will be higher and higher.
C. Fewer and fewer people will use pure electric vehicles.
D. More families need batteries to offer power to the grid.

The aim of World Sleep Day is to celebrate the benefits of good and healthy sleep. Events involving discussions, presentations of educational materials and exhibitions take place around the world and online.

For teenagers, a healthy amount is about eight to nine hours per night. However, about 80% of middle school students don't get enough sleep because they have too much schoolwork to do, or sometimes they spend most of their sleeping-time on games or TV.
27% of people throughout the world have sleep problems. Now there are over 80 kinds of sleep disorders, and most people know little about their danger. So, for our good life and work, it's necessary for us to realize the importance of sleep and try to have a good sleep.
