As a newly-added Olympic sport, surfing is attracting more attention than ever before. Here is a selection of the top surfing destinations across America.
Delaware
Coastal Delaware offers plenty of fun waves along the shore of several cute towns. Due to the waves crashing close to the shore, Dewey beach is also a global skim boarding hotspot and happens to be the east coast capital for the sport. If you're planning a visit, check out the popular "Summer Vibes" festival for some beach fun.
Atlantic City, New Jersey
When world-famous surfer and Olympic Gold medalist Duke Kahanamoku, often referred to as "the father of surfing," visited the mainland United States in the early 1900s, he rode his longboard off the coast of Atlantic City. The beaches here are wide and beautiful—and locals catch waves year-round.
The Rockaways, New York
Located a short distance from Manhattan, the Rockaways attracts new and experienced surfers from across the globe. Be sure to come prepared in winter with a wet suit, while summer brings much warmer water temperatures. Afterwards, explore the town as there's plenty of cafes, boutiques, and restaurants steps from the sand.
Cocoa Beach, Florida
Situated about 45 minutes from Orlando, Cocoa Beach is a renowned surf town that's home to two of the world's best surfers (Caroline Marks and Kelly Slater) and a favorite for surfers of all levels. This family-friendly town has lots of activities for everyone. When you're not in the water, you can stroll the Historic Cocoa Village and its shops, cafes, and galleries.
1. What is the most suitable time for surfers to enjoy beach fun in Delaware?

Architecture is amazing. It has changed the way I look and interact with the world and my environment. It has trained me to be hyper-sensitive(过度敏感) to the built environment, to recognize problems and find solutions that an untrained eye would never notice.
As much as I love this profession, it is very easy to get lost in architecture. I get so focused that I have forgotten about everything else. Luckily my passion for cycling kept me sane(清醒的) while I was becoming an architect. I faced a lot of obstacles and challenges taking a bicycle ride across the United States. Looking back, cycling across the America was actually one of the smartest things I ever did.
I have actually bicycled across the continental USA twice; east to west. Atlantic Ocean to Pacific Ocean, both times. Bicycling across America isn't as hard as you think.
I rode alone on my first trip in 2005 from Virginia Beach to the coast of Florence, Oregon. In the end it was 4,547 miles over the course of 77 days.
I left for the second trip in 2007 with my two best friends from Bar Harbor, Maine to Portland, Oregon, which was a 4,886 mile ride over 90 days. At that time, I fell in love with the idea of leaving the east coast behind, starting a whole new life and career in a new city. I ended up in Portland. After arriving in town on a bike, I eventually found a job, a place to live and an amazing dog.
I share all this not to convince anyone to go biking across America, but only to share how doing this has changed my life. Architecture has given me a wonderful life and career but it isn't everything. Thankfully I have also been very passionate about: my friends, traveling, bicycles, punk rock, technology, the internet, my dog, and even yoga. My architecture background has definitely sweetened my relationship with all those things.
Becoming an architect is a noble pursuit, but you should keep pursuing everything else that you are passionate about. It will enhance your architecture career and ultimately make you a more interesting person, which in my opinion is really more important than being another silly architect.
4. What's the advantage of cycling according to the author?
A. Changing his negative attitude to architecture.
B. Keeping himself focused on his career all the time.
C. Enabling him to find solutions without training.
D. Making him a much better architect and person.
5. What does the author think of his two cross-country bike trips?
A. They are harder than what he expected before.
B. They show the benefits of riding with friends.
C. They give him some extraordinary experiences.
D. They guarantee him a new life and career in Portland.
6. What can be inferred from Paragraph 6?
A. Don't get completely lost in your hobbies.
B. Don't abandon hobbies for your profession.
C. Don't feel ashamed of stopping your hobbies.
D. Don't weigh your family against your profession.
7. In the last paragraph, the author reminds us to ______.
A. take up the pursuit of becoming an architect B. find what we are really passionate about
C. appreciate other people's good intentions D. avoid our career taking over other pursuits
C
Last Thursday, the world's first self-driving, electric container ship made its first trip to Oslo, Norway. The ship's owners aim to cut pollution by transporting large quantities of products by water on the southern coastal of Norway instead of by truck.
The ship, called the Yara Burkeland, is owned by Yara, company that makes fertilizer(肥料). The company wanted to develop a zero-emission(零排放的) ship that was completely self-driving. Yara worked with a ship-building company called Vard and the technology company Kongsberg to develop the ship. The company says that in the future everything, including loading and unloading the ship, will be handled completely automatically.
The Yara Birkeland can carry 120 large containers like those pulled by trucks. But the ship is fully electric and is powered by batteries. The company says the ship has roughly as many batteries as 100 electric cars. The electricity that will be used to recharge the batteries is from renewable hydroelectric sources(可再生水力发电资源), so there's no pollution at all.
The Yara Birkeland won't usually be going to Oslo, and it won't be traveling far, either. It will travel along a regular route from Yara's factory in Porsgrunn up to the port in Brevik. By road, that's a distance of about 14 kilometers. Yara normally uses diesel-powered(柴油动力的) trucks to move fertilizer between these locations.
Now, with the Yara Birkeland moving huge amounts of fertilizer by water, the company expects to cut out 40, 000 yearly trips by diesel-powered trucks. That will prevent about one million kilograms of carbon emissions every year.
In the future, as an autonomous ship, the Yara Birkeland is expected to operate without any human involved Yara plans to spend the next two years improving and testing the ship. But, as with many autonomous cars, the ship will continue to have humans watching over even if it is driving by itself.
8. Why will the products be delivered by ship rather than by truck?
A. To reduce the transport costs. B. To shorten their delivery time.
C. Out of environmental concern. D. Out of concern for their safety.
9. What can be learned about the Yara Bikeland?
A. It uses natural gas as power. B. It has more than one developers.
C. It is a completely self-driving slip. D. It belongs to the government.
10. How does the author mainly introduce the ship and its influence?
A. By listing figures. B. By giving examples.
C. By presenting reasons. D. By following time order.
11. According to the last paragraph, the ship _____.
A. operates by remote control
B. will eventually need no man to watch over
C. cannot be put into commercial use until years later
D. works in a quite different way from an autonomous car
D
An international research team led by scientists from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore has developed a material that, when coated on a glass window panel, can automatically respond to changing temperatures by switching between heating and cooling, helping to cut energy usage.
The newly developed material for electrochromic (电致变色) window is designed to block infrared radiation (红外线) , which is the primary component of sunlight that gives off heat. The researchers claim the material could block up to 70 percent of infrared radiation, while allowing up to 90 percent of visible light to pass through. In addition, it is about30 percent more effective in managing heat than commercially available electrochromic windows, and is cheaper to make due to its durability (耐用性).
However, current electrochromic windows are only effective in blocking visible light, not the infrared radiation, so heat continues to pass through them. And they are not able to manage both heating and cooling the same time. The researchers also note that another drawback of the current technology is its durability, as they tend to degrade within three to five years.
The NTU research team believes that the new electrochromic technology can help conserve energy that will be used for the heating and cooling of buildings and could contribute to the future design of sustainable green building. "This innovation fills the missing gap between traditional smart windows and radiative cooling by paving a new research direction to reduce energy consumption, said co-author Professor Gang Tan from the University of Wyoming, USA.
A Singapore patent has been filed for the innovation. As the next steps, the research team is aiming to achieve even higher energy- saving performance by working on the design of their nanocomposite (纳米复合材料) coating, The research team has partnered with an innovative glass manufacturer (制造商) for further test and to look at potentially incorporating the smart window into its projects for improved efficiency and sustainability.
12. What is the feature of the newly developed material?
A. It is energy-saving. B. It is cost-ineffective.
C. It generates heat in itself. D. It blocks rays completely.
13. What is the disadvantage of current electrochromic windows?
A. They can give off harmful rays. B. They can block infrared radiation.
C. They cannot cool rooms very well. D. They cannot be used for five years.
14. What is Paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. The future research on green buildings. B. The significance of the new technology.
C. The functions of the new smart window. D. The possible application of the innovation
15. What will the researchers do next?
A. Test the performance of visible light. B. Plan mass production of the windows.
C. Evaluate the outcome of their project. D. Create more energy efficient coating.

Educate yourself on your goal to be realistic. You should know what it is that you are looking to pursue so that you have realistic expectations. You don't want to invest time, energy or money into an unrealistic goal. Ask yourself: "What is motivating me?", and "What outside forces might prevent me from achieving my goal?" 17________.
Break your goal into smaller, more manageable steps. It can be difficult to figure out how to get from point A to point B. 18________. However your goal will become much more manageable when you break it into several smaller goals. The larger the goal, the more steps you will need to identify. Make the steps visible to you so you can more readily take them.
Share your goal with other people to give you a push. Sometimes it can be difficult to keep yourself motivated all the time. If your goal is difficult or you aren't seeing progress fast enough, it's normal to get frustrated. You can let your friends or colleagues know about your goal. 19________. With their help, a difficult goal becomes much more attainable.
20________. Gather more information to learn from others and better understand the context in which your goal lies.
One day, my brother and I were alone in our apartment. The reason was that my parents had both gone for a ball party and had left me in charge of everything. I was doing my homework while my younger brother was watching TV. All of a sudden, the doorbell rang. Ding-Dong! Ding-Dong! My younger brother had rushed to the door before I decided to answer the door. We both thought that our parents had come home. As a result, he unlocked the door and opened it.
Outside of the house stood a man who wore a black raincoat and black rubber boots. He looked no different from other people and he said that he was a salesman and asked politely if our mother or father was at home so he could talk with them.
Without any thinking, my brother said, "No." He asked if we would like to buy some comic books, which he was selling. I quickly explained to him that we were not supposed to buy anything without our parents' permission. However, it seemed that he was not willing to follow my advice and he had an intention to enter our house.
Then, I realized something terrible would happen. As I was about to close the door, he forced his way into our house. He took out a knife and forced me to tie up my brother's hands with some rope which he took out from his pocket. I tied up his hands but I tied it in a special way so my brother could untie himself as we often did. The man then tied my hands up and locked both of us in the kitchen.
Soon, he went upstairs to search the bedroom for something valuable. I managed to teach my brother to untie the rope on his hands. He then untied me. I rushed to the telephone to call the police, but line was dead.

第二节
答案:36. healthier 37. to feed 38. which 39. found 40. that 41. survival 42. problems 43.selling 44. are 45. a
根据句意可知,"(feed)the young animals"是"using powdered baby milk"的目的,用不定式作目的状语。故填to feed。
故填which。
故填found。
本句中强调的是时间状语从句"not until they are old enough",句子其它部分只 能由that引出。 故填that。
故填are。
故填a。

I'm so sorry to hear you've met with some difficulties in learning Chinese. I can totally understand your feelings.

第二节
答案:
The doors were all locked from the outside and what's worse, I did not have the keys. But luckily, the man forgot to lock the kitchen window. Both my brother and I managed to get out of the house through the window and we ran to the nearby police station and asked them for help. The police arrived at our house as soon as quickly. And as a result, the man was caught.
Just at the same time our parents came back home. The police asked my family to go to the police station. It was at there the police told us that the man was a wanted robber pretending to sell comic books and they have been trying to catch him for a long time. The police praised my brother and me for our bravery. After we went back home, I told my parents the whole story about the robbery. They were thankful that we were not hurt but they scolded me for not stopping my brother from opening the door to strangers. I learned a lesson on safety and responsibility.
