Revision Unit1—2 A Trip to The Silk Road
I.The Analysis of teaching material.
In this unit, Ss will review the storyline from Unit One and Two, learn how to discuss the visitors’ experiences from the Silk Road through a variety of different methods. In addition, they will learn to introduce their hometown Hanzhong.
II. Analysis of Ss' background knowledge.
Now that the students are in Grade Nine and they are interested in the topic “Traveling”, they have already know about something about the Silk Road and most of them have the ability of expressing themselves in simple words and they can think deeply.
III. Teaching objects.
Knowledge objects :
1.Ss are required to grasp the relevant keywords phrases and their usages of the units through question, free talk and pair work.
2. Ss are expected to be able to talk about the visitors’ main experiences along the Silk Road if possible get them to talk about their traveling in Hangzhou.
Ability objects:
1.Enable students to give basic information about the main stops and introduce them to others. 2.Enable students to give more information about Hanzhong and introduce Hanzhong in individual work, pair work and group work.
Emotional aims:
1.Enable students to cultivate their good communicative skills and attitude.
2.Foster students’ sense of loving their hometown and enhance national self-confidence.
4.learning strategies.
Ss are asked to search for some information about Hanzhong to get them prepared for their performances in class and encourage them to take as many opportunities as possible to speak and present themselves.
III.Teaching key points and difficulties.
Key points:
1.Make the SS be able to talk about their own traveling experiences.
2. Let them recall the traveling experiences based on the visitor’s.
Difficult points:
Make the SS be able to talk about Hanzhong in groups and present the result.

Teaching Procedures:
Step1. Lead-in.
Show Ss some pictures, lead them to guess “What I (the teacher) like doing best” to introduce the topic “travelling”. At the same time, the teacher will Introduce a famous saying, “It is better to travel ten thousand miles than to read ten thousand books.”
Purpose: draw forth the topic and let Ss know what they are going to learn.
Step2. Brain-storm.

Ask-and-answer Questions:
1. Do you like traveling? Why or why not?
2. Where have you been?
3. How did you travel ? Why did you choose to travel in that way?
Have a discussion in pairs between the students:
Q:What impressed you most on the trip ?
S:( places of interest,sceneries,special dishes, interesting stories about the place…)
Q: What does travelling bring to you ?
Ss: open my eyes/ new experience and wide knowledge/a lot of friends/a lot about the culture and history/get the outside knowledge /…
Purpose: draw forth the topic and let Ss review what they have learned. At the same time, it aims to create a relaxing English atmosphere for Ss and arouse Ss’ interest in learning English.
Step 3. Review the trip to the Silk Road according to the mind map.
Discuss in groups, talk about their experiences on the Silk Road.
Ask Ss to say more about these places .
Beijing Xi’an Lanzhou Dunhuang
Make a comment their trip to these places with some adjectives, tell the reasons.
What do you think of their trip? Why?
( exciting/meaningful/worthwhile/disappointed/tiring/fruitful…)
Next, ask the Ss to sharetheir opinions about their discussion. Talk about the importance of the Silk Road if time permitting.

Purpose:
This part is designed to help Ss to recall the storyline of unit 1 and 2 with the help of keywords “5W and 1H”, Ss will consolidate the contents of the text further and improve their reading comprehension skills. What’s more, Ss will learn what great influence that the Silk Road has had.
Step 4: Let the SS play the part of tour guide to introduce one of the main stops along the Silk Road.
(First ,Choose one place from the four main stops, and let them discuss in groups. Then Report the result.)
Purpose:
The tasks are designed for Ss to practice their output by speaking, to check their abilities of collecting information and organizing their thought. Ss will improve their oral English by being a tour guide.
Step 5. Consolidation.
Q:Are these places all parts of the Silk Road?
Ss: Not exactly. (In fact, They are just the small parts of the Silk Road.)
T: It is such a long journey that we can’t finish visiting in a short time. The Silk Road is developing rapidly, too. The Chinese government also put forward the idea The Belt and Road Initiative. Nowadays, more and more foreigners come to China to experience Chinese culture and learn about Chinese history. When it comes to Chinese culture and history, there is one place we won’t miss, it is the birthplace of Chinese Culture. It is named “small Jiangnan” , do you know where it is? )
Ask Ss how much they have learn about Hanzhong. Lead SS to talk about the sceneries and the canola flower festival in spring. SS will learn more from an introduction to Hanzhong.( ask one student to present the introduction.)
Purpose:
This part is designed to draw forth the key word “Hanzhong” from the Silk Road to The Belt and Road Initiative. What’s more, Ss will get the general understanding of the development of the Silk Road.
Step 6: Talk about the introductions to Hanzhong.
What can we learn from the introduction? What do you want to introduce to others?
(Location: be located in the south of Shaanxi, between Qingling and Bashan.
Population: has about a population of 3 million
Weather: neither too hot nor too cold (mild)
Beautiful sceneries: Tianhan Wetland park, Shimen Plank Road, The Cherry Garden in Xixiang County and so on
Famous people:Liu Bang, Zhuge Liang, Zhang Qian, Ban Gu, Cai Lun and so on
Places of interest: Hanzhong Museum, Zhuge Temple, Zhanglian Temple ,Sacred Temple, South Lake Park and so on
Culture and history: the birthplace of Han Dynasty ,Three Kimdoms cultures)
Purpose:
This part is designed to let SS learn more background information of Hanzhong, offer Ss some help by leading them to talk about some contents and ways of an introduction to a place.
Step 7: Group work. Make a guidebook to introduce Hanzhong to others.
(divide up the tasks, each group describe one part of Hanzhong, try to make one page of the guildebook. Choose each group to present their page )
Purpose:
The task is designed for Ss to practice their output by speaking, which embodies the concept” learning by doing and learning in using”. And at the same time, it aims to cultivate Ss’ cooperative spirit and solve the problems in groups.
Step 8: Summary& homework.
As a Hanzhongese, it’s our duty to learn more about our hometown and introduce it to the people all over the world, Let’s try to make our Chinese history and culture alive and try to work hard to make our Hanzhong stronger and more beautiful!
Purpose:
The part is help to get a class closing, it helps to foster students’ sense of loving their hometown and enhance national self-confidence.
