Several days later, when Alvin Bamburg, 66, was deep in the wds in Grand Cane, Luisiana, smething caught his eyes. Hanging in a fallen tree, it lked like litter. But Bamburg felt he must pick it up.
“Gd just tld me,” he says.
As Bamburg apprached, he saw that the bject was a brken balln. Attached was a piece f paper decrated with shiny star stickers. It was a child’s Christmas wish list.
“Dear Santa,” the handwritten nte read. “ My name is Luna. I am fur years ld, and I live in Liberal, Kansas. This year I have been nice. I wuld like candy, Spider-Man ball, and Frzen dll. With lve, Luna.”
Bamburg’s heart hammered in his chest. Ever since he was a child, he had dreamed f this. “Years ag,” he says, “classes at schl released ballns with ntes. I’ve always wanted t find ne.”
He believed this was his childhd wish cming true. And he knew he was ging t make Luna’s wish cme true t.
He just wasn’t sure hw.
