Yu prbably knw many f the things that yu can d with the hundreds f different muscles in yur bdy. But have yu ever thught abut hw the muscles (肌肉) in an animal’s bdy are different frm yurs?
Lins depend n their ability t hunt (猎杀) ther animals t survive. Lins must be fast in rder t catch their prey (猎物). The pwerful muscles in their legs allw them t run at speeds f mre than 30 miles per hur. They can als jump a distance f mre than 35 feet. The strng muscles in their bdy help them becme great hunters.
Snakes als use their muscles fr hunting prey and fr mvement, but their muscles wrk in very different ways t lins’. Scientists have fund a snake has between 10,000 and 15,000 muscles — mre than humans and mst animals, including lins. The snake manages its pwerful muscles t create a wavelike mvement dwn its bdy. These waves push against the grund r ther bjects t mve the snake frward.
Snakes’ muscles allw them t swallw (吞下) things that seem much t large. Can yu imagine eating a whle watermeln in a single swallw? But a snake may eat an egg that is larger than the width f its bdy. Why des the snake have this amazing ability? The snake mves its strng neck muscles t help push the egg alng as the snake swallws.
The trunk, r lng nse, f an elephant cntains a large number f muscles. Scientists believe the trunk alne has mre than 100,000 muscles! This is because the elephant uses its trunk much in the same way that peple use their hands. Even thugh the trunk is large, it can d things that are cmpletely impssible fr mst ther animals.

One thing that seems t hld a lt f peple back frm setting and achieving big gals is the need fr security (安全). Security is a feeling f certainty that everything is OK and that all yur basic needs will be prvided fr. On the surface there’s nthing wrng with that. It’s great t feel secure. Abraham Maslw lists it as ne f the basic human needs. If we dn’t feel secure, we can’t mve nt higher levels like lve and achievement. If we have dubts abut paying the rent at the end f the mnth, hw can we pssibly g after ur really big dreams?
S hw is it that sme peple are able t start a new business while cmpletely brke? D business risk takers simply have a lwer need fr security?
If yu read the stries f very successful peple, yu see a cmmn pattern (模式) again and again — frm an external (外部的) pint f view, mst f these peple were nt in a secure situatin when they started ging after their dreams. Sylvester Stallne was s brke that he had t sell his dg. Tny Rbbins did his dishes in his bathrm because his small apartment had n kitchen. Brian Tracy was a day labrer. Og Mandin was a hmeless drunk wh went int libraries t stay warm. While sme successful peple start ut with a lt f advantages, mst dn’t.
Meanwhile, hw is it that thers wh seem t be in a far mre secure situatin are paralyzed frm taking actin? Peple wh have sme mney in the bank, a nice hme, and a highly-paid jb still dn’t feel secure. Meanwhile, thers with far wrse starting psitins pass them by. Why?
The reasn isn’t that sme peple need security mre than thers. I think everyne needs t feel secure. The difference, hwever, is that the successful risk takers define security internally (内部地) while thers define security externally.
