    Teaching procedures and ways

    Step 1: Greeting and presentation.

       Greet the students in English. Welcome to school. Happy Spring Festival.

    Step 2: Teaching new words and phrases.

      Today we teach a new unit ---Unit 1: Can you play the guitar? First please look at the pictures. Then lead out all the new words one by one. Then let the students read the words by themselves for a few minutes.

    Step 3: Students practice.

    1.Use some pictures to practice these new words: sing、dance

    2.Ask the students to match the words and the people. Finish 1a.Then check the answers.

    3. Use these pictures and new words to lead out the   important   sentences

    structures: Can you…?  Yes, I can./No, I cant. Can she/he ...? Yes, she can./

    No, she/ he cant

    4. Pair work:

      Ask students to use several pictures to practice with these sentence models:

    1). A. Can you…? 

    B: Yes, I can./No, I cant.

    2). A: Can he…?                         

    B: Yes, he can./No, he cant.

    3). A: Can She…?  

    B: Yes, She can./No, she cant.

    4). A: Can they…?  

    B: Yes, they can./No, they cant.

    5. Ask some pairs of students to act out their conversations.

    Step 4:  A game

    To be more familiar with the words and phrases, the teacher can organize a game

    Memory challenge(记忆挑战).Ask the students to guess what he or she can do.

    Step 5: 1b Listening

     Listen and number the conversations 1---3. Check the answers.

    Step 6: Work in pairs:

    1.Ask the students to look at the pictures, there are some clubs in it. Let’s look at the clubs. Ask: What are they? Ss: They are art club, English club, chess club, swimming club and music club. What club do you want to join? Help the students to answer I want to join the art club and so on.

    2. Lead the Ss to practice the conversation like this:  A: What club do you want to join?                         

    B: I want to join the

    Step 7: Do a survey and report

    Divide the Ss into several groups, and then ask them to work in groups. Each group chooses one student as a interviewer, then he / she interviews the others. They can say by using these models:

      A: What club do you want to join?                         

    B: I want to join the

    A: Can you…? 

    B: Yes, I can./No, I cant.

    Ask some groups to act out their conversations. If they have done well, give them hands as a kind of prize.

    Step 8: Summary.

    The teacher with the students sums up the names of clubs that the picture has, e.g. music club, chess club, English club, art club, swimming club, add sports club, dancing club and so on.

    Step 9: Practice

    Show some pictures and exercises on the PPT. Lead the Ss to practice the important sentences and new words that theyve learned in this class. Then summary the use of can.

    Step 10: Homework.

     Write something about what you can do and what club you want to join.
