What d the fllwing animals have in cmmn? Pandas, rhincers, Mexican burrwing snakes, pink pigens and small tth sawfish.
They are all endangered animals! Animals becme endangered fr a variety f reasns. Sadly, humans are behind every ne f them!
Fr centuries, humans have hunted elephants fr their tusks, and killed tigers fr their beautiful furs, caught fish fr fd. While we still have elephants, tigers, and fish in the wild, we cannt say the same abut many thers that have simply died ut!
Year 1505 was a dreadful turning pint in the natural histry f the island f Mauritius—Eurpean sailrseq \a\vs4\al(W1) discvered this beautiful island in the Indian Ocean and brught dgs, pigs, mnkeys with them. The arrivaleq \a\vs4\al(W2) f humans and thse intrduced animal species were bad news fr dd birds (渡渡鸟). Abut 50 punds and flightless, dd birds did nt have any natural enemies until then. They picked fruits fallen frm trees and built their nests n the grund. Shrtly after humans set ft neq \a\vs4\al(P) Mauritius, hwever, dd birds realized that they were in big truble—men killed them fr their meat, and thse intrduced animal species destryed their nests and ate their eggs. The effects f excessiveeq \a\vs4\al(W3) hunting and freign species drve dd birds t first becme much fewer and then die ut. The last dd bird was killed in 1681.
Humans and animals have always cmpeted fr land and ther natural resurces. We clear an area f a frest fr farming. We cut dwn trees and use wd t build beautiful huses. We build reservirseq \a\vs4\al(W4) t make sure that we have enugh water t use. At the same time that we are trying t make ur life cmfrtable, we destry the habitats f wild animals.
Mre than nce we have seen n televisin that rescue wrkers are trying their best t save seabirds in spilled (泄漏的) il. Mre than nce we have heard abut hw emissins f carbn dixide (二氧化碳的排放) and ther gases have raised the Earth temperature and caused glbal warming. Pllutin has a serius and lnglasting effect. If we chse t d nthing and cntinue t pllute ur planet Earth, ur next generatins will have t face an Earth withut birds singing and beasts raring.
1.Hw many reasns are given by the authr t explain why the animals becme endangered?
    A.3. B.4.
    C.5. D.6.
2.What des the underlined wrd “dreadful” (in Paragraph 4) mean?
    A.Surprising. B.Exciting.
    C.Unpleasant. D.Quick.
    3.Paragraph 5 mainly talks abut ________.
A.hw excessive hunting led t endangerment f animals
B.when freign species entered the island f Mauritius
C.the human activities caused the lss f habitats f animals

    Ⅲ 概要写作
    阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。
Every time we breathe r burn smething we turn xygen in the air int carbn dixide. The carbn dixide in turn is used by plants t breathe and is changed back int xygen creating a balanced cycle. The ttal amunt f carbn dixide in the atmsphere is quite small. If we increase ur xygen burning—fr example, by burning a lt f cal r il t generate electricity r run ur cars—and cut dwn trees, we increase the amunt f carbn dixide in the air. This makes the air a little heavier and it starts acting like a thicker blanket arund ur earth, warming it up. The actual amunt f warming is nly a few degrees but it is enugh t disrupt (使混乱) the delicate balance f nature—melt the plar ice, raise sea levels, cause vilent hurricanes and endanger species such as the plar bears and sme rare birds.
The plar bears are brn in dens r caves n land while their mther sleeps thrugh the winter. The mther and the babies emerge arund March famished (挨饿) frm a lng seclusin and must immediately hunt t feed themselves t stay alive. Nw, plar bears cannt hunt n land; the nly hunting they knw is t catch seals frm flating ice in the pen cean.
The flating ice is lcated at the edge f the plar ice cap—a flating frzen mass that cvers the Nrth Plar arctic regin, which is all cean. S in March the plar bear mther and cubs swim frm the land in Spitsbergen t the edge f the plar ice cap s that they can hunt.
Nrmally this is a shrt swim, since in March the plar ice cap is very clse t the land, and the plar bears, even babies, are gd swimmers. Hwever, last year we saw that the plar ice cap had really shrunk in size due t meltdwn frm glbal warming.
This meant that the plar bears had t swim many miles frm the land in Spitsbergen—smetimes hundreds f miles—t find the flating ice where they culd hunt.
Swimming hundreds f miles, especially when they are famished and have hungry babies in tw is really very hard and many bears are dying thrugh drwning and starvatin.
