第五课时 Lesson 17: Staying Safe in an Earthquake

环节1  新课导入多媒体展示地震图片。

T：Boys and girls，what happened in the picture?

Ss：There is an earthquake.

T：Yes.Can you describe it?

S1：Yes.The earthquake happened in the daytime.

S2：Many houses fell down.

S3：...

T：OK.Well done!  But how can we save ourselves in an earthquake？Now this lesson we will talk about an earthquake.

设计意图：此环节利用图片展示，师生间的对话导入本课的话题“地震”，利用会话将学生带入地震现场，预热本课的词汇和句型。

环节2 

1.Show some pictures of the new words on the screen.Ask Ss to try to read these words.

2.Let the students to read the passage on page 42 to get more about earthquake.

3.Do the Exercise 1 on Page 43 and check answers.

4.Read the article again and complete the table of Exercise 2 on Page 43.

5.Work in group of 8 to find out the key words，phrases and sentences.

6.Ask students about what they have found and explain these sentences and phrases for them.

7.Do Exercise 3 on Page 43 and check the answers.

8.要点点拨

（1）You need to have something strong around you to protect you from falling objects. 你需要周围有些坚固的东西来保护你免受下落物体的伤害。

protect常与from, against连用， 意思是 “防止……遭受; 使……免于；保护……使不受侵害” 。 例如：

We'll need our caps to protect us from the sun. 我们需要戴帽子遮阳。

You need warm clothes to protect you against the cold. 你需要穿暖些以免着凉。

（2）If you are in a car, pull over to a place where there are no trees or tall buildings and stay in the car.

如果你在车里，把车停到一个没有树和高建筑物的地方，并待在车里。

pull over 意思是“把 ( 车 ) 停靠在路边”。例如：

He pulled the car over. 他把车开到路边停下。

（3）If you are close to the sea, try to get as far away from the water as possible.

如果你在海边，离大海越远越好。

1) be close to意思是 “接近；靠近；濒临” 。 例如：

She feels good to be close to nature. 接近自然让她感觉愉快。

2) as far as possible 相当于 as far as you can，这句也可以写成：

If you are close to the sea, try to get as far away from the water as you can.

（4）Keep an eye out for things that can fall on you. 留心那些会砸到你的东西。

keep an eye out意思是“警觉；留心；密切注意”。例如：

Keep an eye out for anyone selling tickets. 注意有没有人在卖票。

（5）If you have a phone, use it only once to call your family or a friend.

如果你有部电话，只是当你呼叫家人或朋友时才使用。

once to call your family or a friend 是“从属连词+ 不定式”结构，相当于状语从句 once you call your family or a friend。例如：

She opened her mouth as if to say something.

(=She opened her mouth as if she would say something.)

她张开嘴，好像要说什么。

（6）Your chances of survival in an earthquake go up if you stay calm.

如果你保持镇定，你在地震中存活的概率就会上升。

go up 意思是“上升”，与 rise 同义，与 go down或 set 反义。例如：

The temperature goes up in spring. 春天， 气温上升。

The sun goes up/rises in the east and goes down/sets in the west.

太阳从东方升起，从西方落下。

Grammar:

*if从句+祈使句的用法。

e.g. If you are inside when the earthquake starts, get under a table or a bed.

If you are outside, get to an open area as fast as you can.

If you are in a car, pull over to a place where there are no trees or tall buildings and stay in the car.

在“If 条件状语从句 + 祈使句”中，

（1） 主句为祈使句，省略了主语；if所引导的从句的是一个完整的句子，有主语。

（2）If 从句表示“如果…..”，可以放在主句之前，也可放在主句之后。如果从句在主句之后无逗号隔开；如从句在主句之前则用逗号隔开。

设计意图：通过具体有针对性的讲解，帮助学生复习和巩固本单元语法点。
