    "Pictgram" is a cmpund wrd made frm "picture" and "telegram". Pictgrams are usually simple pictures, and they are ften made with letters and wrds A pictgram is a symbl which represents an idea r an bject thrugh an image(图像). Als, it is a kind f cmmunicatin system which must be learned but is very useful in ur lives. The user must learn t see, understand and remember the different pictgram symbls. There are abut 1,400 different symbls at the present time.
    A Canadian named Subhas Maharaj came up with the idea fr pictgrams in the beginning f the 1980s. At first, pictgrams were intrduced t help peple wh had disabilities in speaking, reading, r writing. Pictgrams are images f bjects that are easy t see and create. Tday, pictgrams are used in many different ways. Fr example, there are traffic, recycling and restaurant signs, even animal symbls and s n.
    Pictgrams are usually in white against a black backgrund. The cmbinatin f white against a black backgrund creates extremely cntrast (对比), and this makes pictgrams friendlier t users. A gd example f a pictgram is the public tilet symbls fr "men" and "wmen", just like the ne n the left. Pictgrams afe a useful methd f cmmunicatin, and peple can have fun as they learn each pictgram.
