Dream in Heart
On the first day of school our professor introduced a new classmate—a wrinkled little old lady—to us. Her name was Rose, and she was eighty-seven years old.
After class Rose and I walked to the Student Union Building and shared a chocolate milk-shake. She told me she always dreamed of having a college education and now she was getting one. We became instant friends. Every day for the following months, we would leave class together and talk nonstop. I was always attracted, listening to this “time machine〞 as she shared her wisdom and experience with me.
Rose became famous and easily made friends wherever she went. She tended to be highly motivated, responsible, and deeply involved in class participation. In spare time she had someone hang out or go to bars with. She even participated in some form of athletic activity. She said that extra-curricular activities can form a vital part of her experience, creating unique chances for friendship and learning.
At the end of the term we invited Rose to speak at our football meal. A little embarrassed, she leaned into the microphone and simply said, “I'm sorry I'm so nervous.〞 As we laughed, she cleared her throat and began, “We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop playing. There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up. If you're nineteen years old and lie in bed for one full year, you will turn twenty. If I'm eighty-seven years old and stay in bed for a year, I will turn eighty-eight. Anybody can grow older. It's non-optional but that doesn't take any talent or ability. The idea is to grow up by always finding the chance in change. In this way the elderly don't have regrets for what they did, but rather for things they did not do.〞 Rose concluded her speech by courageously singing “The Rose〞. She challenged us to study the words of the song and lived them out in daily lives.
At the year's end Rose finished the college degree she had begun all those years ago. One week after graduation Rose died peacefully in her sleep. Over two thousand college students attended her funeral in honor of the wonderful woman who taught by example that it's never too late to be all you can possibly be.
〔1〕Why does the author compare Rose to “time machine〞 in Paragraph 2?
A.To stress her old age and knowledge of life.
B.To describe the close friendship between them.
C.To show that she always enjoyed her active life.
D.To explain why she took on a challenge in college.

〔3〕We can learn that Rose agreed with the idea that ______.
A.growing older means growing up
B.it takes talent and ability to grow up
C.receiving high education helps to be courageous
D.one grows older at the same time when he grows up
〔4〕The passage is intended to ______.

Russia's Soyuz spacecraft, which has been transporting all astronauts to and from the International Space Station (ISS) since 2021, typically carries a crew of three. However, the MS-14 capsule launched (发射) from a Russian spaceport in southern Kazakhstan on August 22, 2021, had just one passenger—a human-like robot named Skybot F-850.
The robot is the latest version of Russia's FEDOR robots, which were initially designed to help with search and rescue efforts. Skybot is good at many human skills, including driving a car, having short conversations, and even telling jokes. But since it lacks some special sills, the spacecraft to the ISS was piloted from the ground by scientists from Russia's space Agency. Roscosmos.
The six-foot-tall, 350-pound robot had another important task while on board. Without risking the lives of human astronauts, it helped Roscosmos researchers test the safety and flight experience of the new Soyuz-2.1, a carrier rocket, which carried the spacecraft into orbit. The feedback (反响) will be important in determining if the rocket is safe to transport future human crews to space.
Though the launch into orbit went smoothly, Skybot's arrival at the ISS was delayed by three days, from August 24 to August 27. The delay didn't seem to bother the robot, which announced its arrival, "Sorry about the delay. Met with traffic. Ready to work now."
Skybot's two-week task is largely a test to measure its ability to work effectively in microgravity, and includes simple tasks like using tools. If all goes well, Russia hopes to send more advanced versions of the FEDOR robots to help astronauts with special tasks.
Earlier this year, the US space agency launched two little robots called Astrobees to help astronauts with daily chores, like finding lost pieces of equipment. Meanwhile, the European Space Agency's social AI-powered CIMON spent a year assisting astronauts, before returning to Earth on August 27, 2021.

D.Pilot the spacecraft to the ISS.
〔2〕How long did it take Skybot F-850 to fly to the ISS?
A.Two days.
B.Three days.
C.Five days.
D.Fourteen days.
〔3〕We infer from the text that Skybot .
A.is bound to take the place of human crews
B.isn't the first robot to help at the space station
C.worked with two other robots to assist astronauts
D.was launched to measure its security and flexibility
〔4〕Where is the text most likely from?
A.A science experiment.
B.A news report.
C.A technology guidebook.
D.A research paper.
Limiting kids' recreational(消遣的) screen time to less than two hours a day, along with enough sleep and physical activity, is associated with improved cognition(认知), according to a study published in The Lancet Child & Adolescent Health.
The study included about 4,500 US children aged 8 to 11 and measured their habits against the Canadian 24-Hour Movement Guidelines for Children and Youth. It found that 51% of the children got the recommended(建议) nine to eleven hours of uninterrupted sleep per night, 37% met the recreational screen time limit of two hours or less per day, while 18% met the physical activity recommendation of at least 60 minutes of accumulated physical activity a day. Only 5% of the children in the study met all three recommendations; 30% met none at all.
The researchers found that as each recommendation was met by a participant, there was a positive association with global cognition, which includes memory, attention, processing speed and language. Those who met all three had the most "superior" global cognition, followed by those meeting the sleep and screen time recommendation and finally the screen time recommendation alone, according to the study.
Other organizations, such as the American Academy of Pediatrics have guidelines in place to help with the management of children's screen time. The organization suggests putting realistic rules or limits in place for how long your children are on their screens, knowing who they are talking to and what they are doing. The amount of recommended screen time depends on the age of the child. Besides, parents should also make sure to encourage physical activity and have bedroom rules such as creating "tech-free zones".
〔1〕Who are the target readers of this passage?
A.Researchers.
B.Teachers.
C.Parents.
D.Children.
〔2〕What is the main idea of this passage?
A.A study on children's screen time is published.
B.The US children fail to meet movement guidelines.
C.Organizations are concerned about children's cognition.
D.Limitation on children's screen time is linked to better cognition.
〔3〕According to the passage, which of the following might contribute least to cognition?
A.The screen time limit.
B.Sleep hours.
C.The physical activity time.
D.Sleep hours and the screen time limit.
〔4〕Why does the American organization suggest creating "tech-free zones"?
A.To make sure children have enough physical playtime.
B.To make sure children have enough sleep time.
C.To make sure children have recreational time.
D.To protect children against radiation.
Parents often think that time spent with their kids will gradually decrease in adolescence. But a new study suggests that while teens try to avoid spending a lot of time together with their parents, private parent-child meetings may actually increase in their early adolescent years. And that may raise a teenager's self-esteem (自尊) and social confidence, especially if it is the time that spent with Dad, the researchers added. The researchers created a long-term study in which they invited families in 16 school districts in central Pennsylvania to participate. In each family, a teenager, a younger sibling (兄弟姐妹), their mother and their father were interviewed at home and then asked about their activities and self-worth five times over a period of seven years.
The study authors were surprised to discover that when fathers spent more time alone with their teenagers, the kids reported they felt better about themselves. Something about the father's role in the family seemed to improve self-esteem among the teenagers in the study, said study co-author Susan McHale, a professor of human development at Pennsylvania State University.
“Time with Dad often involves joking, teasing, and other playful interactions. Fathers, compared to mothers, were more involved in leisure activities and had more peer-like interactions with their children, which is crucial for youth social development,〞 the study showed. But Marta Flaum, a psychologist in Chappaqua, New York, said, “How these findings reflect the real world is a real question. The sample in the study is so small and so unrepresentative of most families in the country today that I'm not sure how much we can generalize from it. In my community in Westchester County, I don't see parents and teenagers spend much time together at all. Parents are often working so hard and have less time to be together with their kids.〞
However, Flaum encourages parents to make time for their kids no matter how much work they have to do. “Research like this reminds us of how important it is. The time we have with them is so short,〞 she said.
〔1〕According to the study, when teenagers spend more time alone with their fathers, _________.
A.their social skills will be improved
B.their fathers will better understand them
C.they will be willing to help their siblings
D.their family members will spend more time together
〔2〕What is Flaum' attitude towards the findings of the study?
B.Favorable.
C.Doubtful.
D.Puzzled.
〔3〕What does the underlined word “it〞 in the last paragraph refer to?
A.The research by Susan McHale.
B.The work to be done.
C.Parents' encouragement.
D.The time parents spending together with their kids.
〔4〕Where is the passage most likely to be taken from?
A.Science magazine.
B.A news report.
C.A research plan.
D.An advertisement.

根据第一段中的“However, the MS-14 capsule launched〔发射〕 from a Russian spaceport in:southem Kazakhstan on August 22, 2021, had just an passenger—a human-like robot named Skybot F-850. 〞 然而,MS-14太空舱于2021年8月22日从哈萨克斯坦南部的一个俄罗斯太空港发射,当时只有一名乘客——一个名为Skybot F-850的类人机器人;以及第四段中的“Though the launch into orbit went smoothly, Skybot's arrival at the ISS was delayed by three days, from August 24 to August 27.〞 虽然发射进入轨道很顺利,但Skybot抵达国际空间站的时间却推迟了三天,从8月24日推迟到8月27日。由此可推断, Skybot F-850飞行了五天才抵达国际空间站。应选C。
〔3〕考查推理判断。根据最后一段中的“Earlier this year, the US space agency launched two little robots called Astrobees to help astronauts with daily chores, like finding lost pieces of equipment. Meanwhile, the European Space Agency's social AI-powered CIMON spent a year assisting astronauts, before returning to Earth on August 27, 2021〞 今年早些时候,美国航天局发射了两个名为Astrobees的小型机器人来帮助宇航员做日常琐事,比方寻找丧失的设备。与此同时,欧洲航天局的社交人工智能驱动的西蒙在2021年8月27日返回地球之前,花了一年的时间帮助宇航员。由此可知, 今年的早些时候, 美国航天局和欧洲航天局都发射了机器人到太空站协助字航员。由此可推断, 在太空站提供帮助的Skybot不是此类中的第一个。应选B。
〔4〕考查推理判断。根据第一段中的“Russia's Soyuz spacecraft, which has been transporting all astronauts to and from the International Space Station〔ISS〕since 2021, typically carries a crew of three. However, the MS-14 capsule launched〔发射〕from a Russian spaceport in southern Kazakhstan on August 22, 2021, had just one passenger—a human-like robot named Skybot F-850.
根据第一段中的“Limiting kids' recreational(消遣的) screen time to less than two hours a day, along with enough sleep and physical activity, is associated with improved cognition(认知), according to a study published in The Lancet Child & Adolescent Health.〞可知,本文主要建议父母们要把孩子的屏幕消遣时间限制在2小时之内、保证孩子有足够的睡眠和锻炼,这样做可以让孩子有更好的认知能力。所以本文的目标读者是父母们,而不是研究人员、老师或儿童。应选C。
〔2〕考查主旨大意。本文主要建议父母们要把孩子的屏幕消遣时间限制在2小时之内、保证孩子有足够的睡眠和锻炼。根据第三段中的“Those who met all three had the most 'superior' global cognition…〞告诉父母们如果他们这样做可以让孩子有更好的认知能力。应选D。
〔3〕考查推理判断。根据第三段中的“Those who met all three had the most 'superior' global cognition, followed by those meeting the sleep and screen time recommendation and finally the screen time recommendation alone, according to the study.〞可知,满足三个要求的人认知能力最好,接下来是满足睡眠时间以及屏幕消遣限制时间,最后是满足屏幕消遣限制时间。据此推断,体育锻炼对认知能力影响最小。应选C。
〔4〕考查推理判断。根据最后一段中的“Besides, parents should also make sure to encourage physical activity and have bedroom rules such as creating 'tech-free zones'.〞可知,the American Academy of Pediatrics建议父母们给孩子设立睡眠规那么,例如“tech-free zones〞,目的是确保孩子在卧室里有足够的睡眠时间。应选B。
【点评】此题考点涉及细节理解,推理判断和主旨大意三个题型的考查,是一篇教育类阅读,要求考生在捕捉细节信息的根底上,进一步根据上下文的逻辑关系,进行分析,推理,概括和归纳,从而选出正确答案。
4.【解析】【分析】本文讲述了父母亲和孩子在一起的时间对孩子的成长的重要性,并建议父母亲多花时间和孩子在一起。
〔1〕A 细节理解题。根据第二段前两句The study authors were surprised to discover that when fathers spent more time alone with their teenagers, the kids reported they felt better about themselves. Something about the father's role in the family seemed to improve self-esteem among the teenagers in the study可知这些研究发现父亲在孩子的开展中起着更为重要的作用,能够开展孩子的自尊等社交技能。
But Marta Flaum, a psychologist in Chappaqua, New York, said, “How these findings reflect the real world is a real question.可知Marta Flaum认为这些发现是否反响的是真实情况还是一个问题。说明他对这一研究持疑心的态度。故C项正确。
〔3〕D 词义猜想题。根据本句However, Flaum encourages parents to make time for their kids no matter how much work they have to do. “Research like this reminds us of how important it is.
Annealing is a way of making metal softer by heating it and then letting it cool very slowly.
It will be very hard but also very brittle — that is, it will break easily.从后面that is(也就是说)的解释中我们可以了解到brittle是“脆〞的意思。The herdsman, who looks after sheep, earns about 650 yuan a year.定语从句中 looks after sheep 就说明了herdsman的词义为“牧羊人〞。The underlined words “tipping points〞 most probably refer to “_______〞.A. freezing points B. burning points C. melting points D. boiling points解析:C。请看原文:In his book, he had challenged readers to make deep cuts in personal emissions to keep the world from reaching extremely important tipping points, such as the melting〔融化〕of the ice sheets in Greenland or West Antarctica. 根据后一句的such as the melting〔融化〕of the ice sheets in Greenland or West Antarctica.可知tipping points的意思是“融点〞。结合本文第32题:The underlined word “crucial〞 in the first paragraph is closest in meaning to _____.根据文章第一段Remember, language learning is a combination of input + practice. As you're reading, you're taking in language naturally, and you're seeing how it all fits together.
G.Below are some approaches that will relieve your potential frustration and help you succeed in language learning“下面是一些将缓解你潜在的挫折感,帮助你在语言学习方面取得成功的方法〞符合语境。应选G。
