Thugh mst dinsaurs are thught t have hunted primarily during the day, a little bird-like dinsaur may have been strictly a night hunter, a new study suggested.
The dinsaur, Shuvuuia deserti, was a small animal, abut the size f a chicken, and it lived abut 65 millin years ag in the deserts f what is nw Mnglia.
Shuvuuia’s skeletn is amng the mst bizarre f all dinsaurs, the study said. It had a fragile, bird-like skull; strng arms with a single claw n each hand; and lng legs. "Acting at night, digging ability and lng limbs are all features f animals that live in deserts tday," said study lead authr Jnah Chiniere, a University f the Witwatersrand scientist. "But it's surprising t see them all cmbined in a single dinsaur species that lived mre than 65 millin years ag." he added, "It had sme f the largest pupils(瞳孔)ever measured in either birds r dinsaurs."
"Fr many decades, dinsaurs were cnsidered t be day-active," study cauthr Lars Schmitz, a bilgist at the W.M. Keck Science Department in Califrnia, said in a statement. "Nw we're adding new evidence that sme small, predatry(食肉的)dinsaurs culd have been night-active instead, which changes the thinking abut dinsaurs."
