Analysis f the Teaching Material
The title f this reading is “Standard English and dialects ". The purpse f the reading is t shw students that there is n such thing as “Standard English”. What peple usually mean by this is grammatical English .Hwever, there are many variants f what is cnsidered standard r grammatical ways f saying things .These variants are called dialects .All cuntries have dialects and because the USA is s large it has many t .The passage intrduces the students t sme f the differences in American English. In China ,t, there are s many lcal dialects althugh the gvernment encurages the whle natin t speak Putnghua, which is regarded as “Standard Chinese”. Hwever, lcal peple als speak their wn dialects. The mst well-knwn is the use f Cantnese in Hng Kng.
Analysis f the Learning Situatin
Students are freshmen in the High Schl, and they lack f English language learning envirnment and basis n learning English independently. It is very likely fr students t misunderstand the reading material because f thse new wrds. Senir One students have been learning English fr several years. They have mastered certain vcabulary and expressin, and have certain skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing. Hwever, they are nt familiar with the backgrund knwledge f English. In additin, they need mre pprtunities t practice their skills s that they can use English skillfully and freely. Learning is as imprtant as teaching. While learning, Ss shuld use their eyes, ears, muth and heart t see, listen, speak and feel. Ss shuld learn by reading, speaking, bserving, cperating, discussing, and deducing. Abve all, they shuld learn with interest and mtivatin.

Step1: lead-in
Ask ne student where he cmes frm. Use his language t speak “有一只小鸟站在石头上晒太阳。Then I ask the students” Hw many dialects are there in Chinese?”
Explanatin: this part aims t stimulate Ss’ interest and thus lead t the fllwing talk naturally.
Step2: Talk

Explanatin: By asking these questins, Teacher cllects Ss’ pinins f standard English and lead t the reading passage naturally.

Judge which cuntry just frm the vices. This task is a little challenging but meaningful. The students shuld pay mre attentin t the prnunciatins and hints such as pictures carefully.
Explanatin: This step is t train the students. expressins ,especially when they have different ideas .Hw t cmmunicate with each ther well? And get ready fr the pster.
Task4: shw time :design the pster(Grup-wrk):
Accrding t the cuntry which they are interested in ,they design a pster t attract turists t travel in it . They can make the best use f their imaginatins t design the pster.
Explanatin: by creating a situatin clse t life, this part aims t encurage Ss t talk in English, using what they have learned, thus t practice their cmmunicating ability f using language in a true situatin and t imprve the imaginatin ,creatin and cperatin .The pster is designed here t let Ss have an initial idea f psters, thus laying a base fr the fllwing writing.
Step 4. Writing
1) Ss are asked t write a pster fr their cuntry t put it n yuyu Daily, accrding t the requirements and reference.
Requirements: 1. writing in the crrect structure.
at least 3 reference wrds and phrases.
at least 3 shrtened sentences .attractive and persuasive ideas.
Reference:
Wrds r expressins :standard, believe it r nt ,difference, welcme…. etc.
Functin: Shrtened sentences, eg,” welcme t the USA”
2) Assessment f the first draft:
1. Des the pster have a clear structure?
2. D yu use at least 3 wrds and expressins frm this unit?
3. D yu use at least 3 shrtened sentences?
4. D yu use crrect frms in verbs and nuns?
5. Des it sund persuasive?

We must keep it in mind that ur mther tngue is the mst beautiful language in the wrld ,but we can’t ignre the imprtance f English. The reasn why we learn English is that we shuld be mre capable f building up ur cuntry.
