Imagine being handed a fake(假的) pill by yur dctr t treat an illness. Yu wuld be pretty mad if yu fund ut the pill was nt a real medicatin, wuldn't yu? Better yet, imagine the dctr tells yu the pill is fake. At that pint, yu'd prbably questin whether the dctr even knws his staff at all. But wait, there's mre t the stry.
Ted Kaptchuk f Harvard University cnducted an experiment t help treat irritable bwel syndrme(肠过敏性综合征) pain in 2010, in which he clearly marked the patients 'pills as “placeb”(安慰剂), r fake. Unbelievably, the grup that was aware that it was receiving the placeb reprted significant imprvement in their cnditin.
Many f yu prbably knw abut the placeb effect. It's the idea that giving patients an ineffective treatment —such as a sugar pill-fr their cnditin might actually prduce beneficial effects.
Why des it wrk? We dn't really knw. One thery is that the placeb causes yur brain t have a respnse that flws dwn t ther parts f the bdy. Placebs presented as stimulants(兴奋剂) tend t increase the heart rate and bld pressure, and thse presented as depressants d the ppsite.
In fact, the placeb effect can be cmpared t the experience f watching a hrrr mvie. Althugh yu knw that what yu're seeing isn't actually real, yu mst likely experience sme pretty real effects such as increase in the heart rate and sweating.
Kaptchuk's wrk differed frm the traditinal placeb effect, in that he tld the patients that the pill they were receiving was nt real medicine. When the patients have this knwledge, the term" pen-label placeb” is used. The resulting imprvement prved that in many cases, patients dn't need t be tricked in rder fr the desired effects f a placeb t take place. In fact, the fake medicatin helped sme patients s much that they requested additinal pills after the experiment was ver.
Of curse, the natural questin is: was this an extrardinary medical phenmenn, r just plain luck? That's why Kaptchuk and his team are attempting t d a seven-week trial befre intrducing the results t cancer survivrs t treat severe tiredness caused by the aftereffects f the disease.
    24. The first paragraph f the article implies that____
    A. dctrs have pr medical ethics (伦理道德) B. fake medicines are sld in hspitals
    C. patients dn't really trust dctrs D. we may have a wrng idea f fake pills
    25. Accrding t the passage," the placeb effect" refers t the idea f ____
    A. taking fake pills t feel much better B. using sugar pills t treat the patients
    C. benefiting patients with real medicines D. treating patients in an ineffective way
    26. What is the writer ging t discuss next?
    A. Why des the placeb effect wrk in real life?
    B. Hw will they carry ut the seven-week trial?
    C. Will a fake medicatin really exist in the wrld?
    D. Are patients being ttally treated with fake pills?
    C

As prices drp and their functinality expands, yu can expect t see humanid(类人的)rbts in mre places, including schls, airprts, and hspitals. Will they influence human behavir?
In a study published recently, scientists fund that mean rbts can help peple cncentrate. The experiment, published in Science Rbtics, was based n smething called the Strp Task, which is widely used in psychlgy and described as the "gld standard" f attentinal tests. It challenges participants t name the clrs f wrds and ignre their meanings while calculating reactin time.

Then the participants rated the rbts. "The mre participants thught the rbt made them uncmfrtable, the greater the imprvement f their Strp perfrmance was," the researchers wrte. "Nt surprisingly, the bad rbt was rated as less warm, friendly and pleasant than the gd rbt."
The study authrs argue that rbts are crssing the line in sme situatins frm machines t scial agents. That will change hw humans interact with and behave arund them.
“Similar t a human's presence, the presence f a rbt might nt be neutral(无倾向性的) in situatins like schl r in the ffice when yu are wrking." Niclas Spatla, ne f the study authrs said in an email, "S befre yur bss decides t intrduce a rbt in yur ffice, it culd be a gd idea t evaluate hw yu feel abut it and hw it can psitively r negatively impact yur wrk, hw cmfrtable yu may feel with it r if yu feel it t be a threat."
Just 58 students frm University Clermnt Auvergne in France participated in the experiment but the researchers fund an increase in the speed f crrect answers amng thse in the presence f a mean rbt when cmpared t thse wh were with a nice rbt r alne.
In the future, rbts will almst certainly becme mre and mre cmmn in nursing hmes, htel check-in desks, behind the wheel, and elsewhere. “If we want t imprve the use f rbts in ur daily life, there seems t be a need t first understand hw Human Rbt Interactin can impact human psychlgy,” Spatla said.
    31. What was the finding f the new study?
    A. The use f rbts is rising. B. Humanid rbts can be mean.
    C. Unkind rbts can sharpen ur fcus. D. Rbts are becming mre functinal.
    32. Accrding t the passage, hw did the participants judge the rbts?
    A. By their wrds. B. By their actins.
    C. By their appearance.D. By the Strp Task.
    33. Which f the fllwing might Niclas Spatla agree with?
    A. Be careful abut using rbts. B. Leave the rbt if it presents a threat.
    C. Rbts will have a gd impact n ffices.
    D. Rbts may replace humans in the wrkplace.
    34. What was the prblem f the study?
    A. The participants were t yung. B. The study methd wasn't scientific.
    C. There was a slight difference in speed.
    D. The number f the participants was t small.
    35. What can we infer frm the last paragraph?
    A. Scientists have already develped humanid rbts.
