第二部分 阅读理解 (满分35分)
第一节 阅读理解(共10小题;每小题2.5分,满分25分) A
I am here with students at Wakefield High Schl in Virginia. And we’ve gt students listening frm all acrss America, frm kindergarten t 12th grade. I knw that fr many f yu, tday is the first day f schl. And fr thse f yu in kindergarten, r starting middle r high schl, it’s yur first day in a new schl, s it’s understandable if yu’re a little nervus. I imagine there are sme senirs ut there wh are feeling pretty gd right nw — with just ne mre year t g. And n matter what grade yu’re in, sme f yu are prbably wishing it were still summer and yu culd stay in bed.
I knw that feeling. When I was yung, my mther didn’t have the mney t send me where mst American kids went t study, but she thught it was imprtant fr me t keep up with an American educatin. S she decided t teach me extra lessns herself. But because she had t g t wrk, the nly time she culd d it was at 4:30 in the mrning. Nw, as yu might imagine, I wasn’t t happy abut getting up that early. But whenever I cmplained, my mther wuld just give me ne f thse lks and she’d say, “This is n picnic fr me either.” S I knw that sme f yu are still adjusting t being back at schl.
But I’m here because I want t talk with yu abut yur educatin and what’s expected f all f yu in this new schl year. Nw, I’ve given a lt f speeches abut educatin. And I’ve talked abut respnsibility a lt. I’ve talked abut teachers’ respnsibility fr encuraging students and pushing yu t learn. I’ve talked abut yur parents’ respnsibility fr making sure yu stay n track, and yu get yur hmewrk dne. I’ve talked a lt abut yur gvernment’s respnsibility fr setting high standards, and supprting teachers and principals, and turning arund schls that aren’t wrking, where students aren’t getting the pprtunities that they deserve.
But at the end f the day, we can have the mst dedicated teachers, the mst supprtive parents, the best schls in the wrld — and nne f it will make a difference, nne f it will matter unless all f yu fulfill (履行) yur respnsibilities, unless yu shw up t thse schls, unless yu pay attentin t thse teachers, unless yu listen t yur parents and put in the hard wrk it takes t succeed. That’s what I want t fcus n tday: the respnsibility each f yu has fr yur educatin. I want t start with the respnsibility yu have t yurself. Every single ne f yu has smething that yu’re gd at. Every single ne f yu has smething t ffer. And yu have a respnsibility t yurself t discver what that is. That’s the pprtunity an educatin can prvide.
Maybe yu culd be a great writer but yu might nt knw it until yu write that English paper. Maybe yu culd be an inventr but yu might nt knw it until yu d yur prject fr yur science class. And n matter what yu want t d with yur life, I guarantee that yu’ll need an educatin t d it. And this isn’t just imprtant fr yur wn life and yur wn future. What yu make f yur educatin will decide nthing less than the future f this cuntry. The future f America depends n yu. What yu’re learning in schl tday will determine whether we as a natin can meet ur greatest challenges in the future. That’s why tday I’m calling n each f yu t set yur wn gals fr yur educatin and d everything yu can t meet them.
