    阅读理解

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared (宣布) the new coronavirus (冠状病毒) outbreak a global public health emergency after the spread of the disease across the world. WHO made the decision in its third meeting about the coronavirus, after it decided not to take such a step in the first two meetings.

Officially called a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC), it is considered to be a public health risk through the international spread of disease. It suggests a serious, sudden and unusual situation in which the world must act quickly.

Since 2009, there have been a few global health emergencies, including the 2009 swine flu pandemic (猪流感) and the 2014 outbreak of ebola in West Africa.

The new coronavirus has got attention because of its similarity to SARS which killed about 800 people across the world in 2002-2003. So far, the new coronavirus does not seem to be as deadly as SARS, but there have been more cases.

Its declaration could cause trade and travel restrictions (限制). Those who have made holiday plans might have their plans affected (受影响的) in some parts of the world.

The WHO said its greatest worry was the potential (潜在性) for the virus to spread to countries with weaker health systems, who might not be able to handle (处理) it.

“We are all in this together and we can only stop it together,” said the WHO’s Director General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

On January 27, in order to win the new pneumonia Resistance War(抗击新型肺炎战), the Ministry of Education issued(教育部公布) a notice on putting off the start time of school in spring 2020. It was said that school should not start before March. The exact start time of school will depend on situations and further notices.

However, many parents are very worried that putting off the start of school may affect(影响) children’s studies. If they have such a long winter vacation, children will not learn any knowledge, read books or study at all. They may forget what they have learned before. Staying at home for a long time will make them keep eating, sleeping and playing, which seriously affect their physical and mental health.

In short, the close of school influences learning and develops bad habits, so how should we avoid these problems? Local education departments have also issued a notice, that is, to organize online teaching and create a network platform(平台), where necessary courses will be shown every day, and online teaching will be given by excellent teachers of the subject, and students can learn at home through computer or mobile network.

It should be said that such a method is very good. It can not only keep students indoors and not worry about the infection(感染) of the disease, but also make them study at home, improve their learning ability, and truly achieve “no suspension of classes”. Both the platform itself and the recorded lesson resources are more useful, and are welcomed by parents and teachers.

Of course, except for learning at home, it is also necessary to teach children about health knowledge, especially how to keep away from touching virus and other knowledge popularization; at the same time, it is also necessary for children to do some physical exercises or some games, which is good for physical health at home.

    11. Parents worried about putting off the start time of school because _______.

        A. children may be infected by virus

        B. they don’t like the idea of online learning

        C. children’s study may be affected

        D. parents have no time to look after children

    12. Except for learning at home, what is also necessary according to the writer?

        A. To keep playing online games.

        B. To keep touching different people.

        C. To do some physical exercises outside.

        D. To teach children about health knowledge.

    13. The underlined word “suspension” in Paragraph 4 probably means _______ .

        A. plan        B. stop       C. growth           D. change

    14. Which is TRUE according to the passage?

        A. Students would rather go to school.

        B. The date of going to school is decided.

        C. Online teaching will help students study.

        D. Parents believe children can teach themselves.

    15. What’s the best title for this passage?

        A. A Special Way to Learn at Home

        B. A New War with a New Chance

        C. A Way to Keep Mentally Healthy

        D. A Method to Make Parents Worried

Wearing a mask while sleeping at home sounds a little crazy. But Wu Keying did so during the novel coronavirus outbreak. “I feared that I would be infected. Now I know it’s not necessary to do so. But I am still worried about when the epidemic will end,” said the 13-year-old from Chengdu, Sichuan province. Being stuck inside makes her feel anxious.

In fact, many people have experienced feelings like Wu.Nearly 80 percent of people are deeply worried about the outbreak, while 40percent strongly fear it, according to a survey released on Jan 27 by theChinese Academy of Social Sciences.

These emotions (情绪) are normal for people who are going through stressful events, according to Wang Weihua, an expert on positive psychology (积极心理学). “Some stressful reactions (反应) can help us fight the virus,” Wang said. “We take more protective actions, such as wearing masks and washing hands often, for example.”

But if these feelings last too long, it will be bad for our mental (心理的) health, Wang added. So how can we stay positive?

First, we should learn to accept unexpected changes in life, wrote Xiong Kewei, a psychological consultant (咨询师) at Beijing Normal University. We might learn new lessons from these changes, like respecting (尊重) nature and being more responsible (有担当的).

Another useful way to stay positive is to stick to a normal routine (正常作息).

“The key is to take good care of the body, arrange a reasonable schedule, ensure adequate sleep and diet, and get the necessary rest and relaxation,” Zhang Hong, deputy chief physician of Wuhan Mental Health Center, told China Daily.
