The Flrida panther (美洲豹) that is crucial t the natural envirnment has received help frm cnservatin grups and state fficials.
Panthers nce wandered thrughut the suthern US, Elise Bennett, a bilgist, said. The species has even been dcumented as far nrth as Luisiana. They have been limited t a small gegraphic area in suthwest Flrida after being hunted t near-extinctin. The ppulatin is capped due t the limited amunt f space t huse them and a lack f safe passage elsewhere in the state, accrding t panther experts.
There' re nly abut 200 panthers left in the wild. Experts say the nly way fr the species t recver is t expand their range nrthward. The gal is t create three separate panther ppulatins with at least 240 adults t supprt the genetic flw f the species, accrding t the US Fish and Wildlife Service, which listed the Flrida panther under the Endangered Species Act in 1967. There's currently nly ne grup in Flrida.
The develpment f highways and rads in Flrida, ne f the fastest-grwing states in the cuntry, has “bttlenecked” the panthers, Bennett said. The Flrida Department f Transprtatin has teamed with scientists and wildlife cnservatin grups t build wildlife crssings acrss the state t allw animals like panthers, bears and deer a safe passage acrss radways. These crssings are meant t prevent animals entering highways and mre than 50 have been cnstructed since planning began in 1972. A new crssing at Interstate 4 near the State Rad 57 interchange in Plk Cunty is near cmpletin and mre than a dzen are in the wrks.
Cars are ne f the biggest dangers t panthers, Bennett said. Thirteen panthers were hit and killed by cars in 2023. At least 13 have been killed n radways s far this year.
We've seen great prgress fr panther ppulatins suth f the Calsahatchee River. But the success fr panther cnservatin still faces many challenges. “We have a lng way t g,” Bennett said.
    28. What can be inferred abut panthers frm paragraph 2?

    B. They had been extinct in Flrida befre.
    C. They had the largest ppulatin in Flrida.

The rapidly expanding use f ChatGPT and ther artificial intelligence (AI) tls has fired up a heated debate in academia.
On ne side f the debate, prfessrs and teachers are cncerned ver the future f pst- secndary learning and threats t traditinal disciplines (学科), especially within the humanities, as headlines warn f “The End f the English Majr”. Nevertheless, AI is here and abut a third f teachers, frm kindergarten thrugh high schl, reprt using it in the classrm, accrding t a recent survey. While many f ur wrkfellws in higher educatin plicy, science plicy, and university design criticize r dismiss generative AI, we are instead decidedly ptimistic that it will fllw a pattern seen in ther technlgies that have enhanced educatinal access and success.
Histry supprts this view. Frm the Gutenberg press t nline math classes, technlgies that imprve access t quality learning pprtunities were rutinely dismissed by critics. Cnsider the calculatr. A survey in the mid-1970s carried ut by Mathematics Teacher magazine fund that 72 percent f respndents—— mainly teachers and mathematicians— ppsed equipping seventh graders with calculatrs. They said an verdependence n it wuld weaken students’ math skills.
It's easy t see hw the use f the calculatr mirrrs current cncerns abut generative AI. The Cllege Bard made a similar argument in an article published last spring that talked abut the “Great Calculatr Panic f the 1980s and ’ 90s”. Critics f AI in the classrm argued that students might never learn t write a simple sentence r a basic five-paragraph essay.
Actually, the intrductin f calculatrs int classrms didn't cause the demise f mathematics educatin; instead, it significantly bradened its ranges while inspiring educatrs and academics t rethink the educatinal limits f mathematics. This shift created a climate ripe fr innvatin. Tday's math learning envirnment is bservably mre dynamic, inclusive and creative than it was befre cmmn access t calculatrs.
Far frm fearing technlgical prgress, histry teaches us t accept it t braden learning.
    32. What is the authr's attitude t the adptin f AI int the classrm?
    A. Dismissive. B. Unclear. C. Dubtful. D. Apprving.
    33. What can we say abut nline math classes?
    A. They were prmted by the calculatr.
    B. They were nt thught well f at first.
    C. They relied n ld teaching methds.
    D. They laid the fundatin fr AI's use.
    34. Why des the authr mentin the case f the calculatr?
    A. T highlight a prblem. B. T present an assumptin.
    C. T supprt an argument. D. T explain a definitin.
    35. What des the underlined wrd “demise” mean in paragraph 5?
    A. Develpment. B. Innvatin. C. End. D. Threat.
