Have yu ever taken a lk at a few lvely chickens and desired t tuch and kiss them? Apparently, fr sme the urge is hard t resist. Hwever, accrding t an updated warning by the Centers fr Disease Cntrl(CDC), ding s culd spread dangerus-maybe even life-threatening -Salmnella(沙门菌). S n matter hw irresistible thse little feathered birds may seem, avid giving them a kiss.
This isn't the first time the CDC has warned against getting yur pultry(家禽)fresh. Back in 2018 Hallween, they advised against dressing the birds up fr fear f spreading Salmnella. Then again, in May this year, with 474 cases reprted, anther warning was issued. Accrding t interviews with 271 f thse affected, 77 percent had been in cntact with pultry befre getting sick.
"Backyard pultry, like chicken and ducks, can carry Salmnella bacteria even if they lk healthy and clean," writes the CDC. "These bacteria can easily spread t anything in the areas where the pultry live. Yu can get sick frm tuching yur pultry r anything in their envirnment and then tuching yur muth r fd, and swallwing Salmnella bacteria."
Mst peple wh cme int cntact with the Salmnella bacteria will experience diarrhea, fever, and stmach cramps. Children are particularly affected—ne in three sick peple are belw the age f five—intelligible given their weaker immune(免疫)systems and natural lve fr the birds.
The CDC recmmends that parents shuldn't let little children tuch chicks, ducks, r ther backyard pultry and make sure that if they d, they shuld wash their hands thrughly afterward. Likewise, adults are instructed t d the same after tuching backyard pultry and their eggs shuld be cleaned, stred, and cked crrectly t avid the infectin f Salmnella.

Recently I read an article written by Edan Lepucki and titled "Dn't Play With Yur Kids. Seriusly." It makes a case fr parents cnsciusly withdrawing frm their children ’s playtime until thse children are able t play independently all the time.
Accrding t Edan Lepucki, there are tw main reasns. One is that it allws the child time and space t delve int wnderful imaginary wrlds that he r she is nt able t enter in quite the same way if a parent is present.
The secnd reasn is that it gives parents a break. With everything else we d n a daily basis—feeding, cleaning, disciplining, educating, transprting, and mre—it's simply t much t be expected t entertain ur kids actively, as well. Lepucki describes a sense f exhaustin t which I can relate."The cnstant quarrelling was s exhausting that my husband and I didn't have the energy t play the way my sn preferred. After I sclded him, I felt guilty and frustrated".
Adpting a n-play apprach changed everything, imprving bth the relatinship with her sn and her wn mental wellbeing, and it has dne the same fr me, with my wn three children.
I have anther reasn fr chsing this apprach: It builds greater independence in children. Children play differently when adults are present. They tend t rely n adults t slve cnflicts, whereas when they're n their wn, they have n chice but t rise t the ccasin and deal with any issue.
Lenre Skenazy, the authr f "Free Range Kids", tld me that when adults are present, kids act like kids, but when adults leave, kids becme adults. She said, "If there's an adult there, they will take ver. S adults need t step back."
Take this as yur excuse t stp playing with yur kids. Knw that it' s perfectly OK t say n, t admit yu need a break, and t encurage yur children t play withut yu. Then sit back and bserve the clever, imaginative little humans yu've created at play. It's a mst satisfying feeling.
28. What des the underlined part "delve int" in paragraph 2 prbably mean?
A. Develp. B. Change. C. Explre. D. Preserve.
29. Hw des Lepucki benefit frm her parenting style?
A. Her relaxing time is increased. B. She becmes mre independent.
C. She makes mre adult friends. D. Her physical health has imprved.
30. Why is Lenre Skenazy mentined?
A. T prve kids' pr independence. B. T prvide evidence fr an pinin.
C. T shw kids' changeable character. D. T explain parents' bad effect n kids.
31. Which can be the best title fr the text?
A. It Prvides Us with Many Benefits t Play Alne
B. Parents Shuld Help Develp Kids' Independence
C. Refusal Can Create a Harmnius Family Atmsphere
D. It Wn't Hurt Yur Kids If Yu Stp Playing with Them
D
We’ve all been there-accidently distanced a new c-wrker with a bad jke, r failed t impress the new bss with ur first task. Yu might have been ff yur game because f a recent failure, but yur new c-wrkers are likely t think that yur pr perfrmance is ne f yur basic characteristics. Hwever, it’s nt impssible t change hw thers view yu.
Yur c-wrkers may have built up a certain impressin f yu-that yu’re nt leadership material because yu’re t quiet, fr example. Yu can’t expect t verturn that thinking with small actins. Yu need t d smething unexpected. If yu’ve made them think yu’re quiet and never speak up, it wn’t be enugh t talk nce in a meeting. Instead, make a pint f being the first persn t speak. If yur c-wrkers have t ask themselves, “What gt int him?” then yu’re n the way t beginning t change their views.
My first impressin f Matthew, an emplyee f mine, was that he was a bit lazy at wrk. Realizing that I was increasingly unimpressed with him, he made a mve. He suggested that we get t knw each ther better by ging t a rck climbing gym-an activity at which he was very experienced, and I was a beginner. His great skills shwed me a different side t his abilities.
Smetimes the bad impressin yur c-wrkers may have frmed has nthing t d with yu. Ten years ag, I met a wman at a meeting. Tday, we’re clse friends. But, she said that she hadn’t liked me at first. She thught I seemed “t psitive”-and therefre smewhat fake. It was nly after knwing me fr years that she realized that was in fact hw I was. If yu’re patient and cntinue t act in ways yu’re prud f, mst peple will finally cme arund.
It’s unfair when we feel misunderstd. But while first impressins are likely t stick, they can-with time and effrt-be changed, s that yur true talents can be appreciated.
32. What des the underlined phrase “ff yur game” in the first paragraph prbably mean?
A. Beaten in a sprt.B. Lst in yur cmputer game.
C. Unwilling t accept a new friend.D. Unable t wrk as well as usual.
33. Hw can we change thers’ impressins f us accrding t paragraph 2?
A. By surprising them.B. By keeping quiet.
C. By questining them.D. By rganizing meetings.
34. Why did Matthew ask the authr t g rck climbing with him?
A. T explre new jb chances.B. T shw ff his climbing skills.
C. T get the authr t knw him better.D. T push the authr t exercise mre.
35. What did the wman think f the authr at first?
A. Brave.B. Insincere.C. Friendly.D. Impatient.

Ging t the z is an all-time favrite activity fr children and families. 36 In rder t make a decisin, we must cnsider the arguments fr and against keeping wild animals in zs.
One benefit f zs is that they are useful fr educating peple abut animals. We can bserve animals at clse range and learn mre abut them than we can frm bks and the TV. It als prvides an pprtunity t prmte the cnservatin f endangered species. 37 This helps them t cme up with better ways f prtecting animals frm harm in their natural habitat.
On the ther hand, keeping animals in zs is similar t a prisn sentence. Many zs d nt have large enugh enclsures t keep animals cmfrtable. The animals have limited freedm t mve abut. We ften see even the fierce lins lying passively in their enclsures just waiting fr their next meal t be served. They suffer frm stress and bredm. 38
Anther thing we need t cnsider is the cst f maintaining a z. A lt f funds are needed t run a z. Mney is needed t stck the z with all kinds f animals. 39 The animals need fd and medical care. Special spaces need t be built t huse each type f animals. Mre staff are needed t clean and maintain the z grunds.
40 If yu want t see animals, I advise yu t g n a safari. Fr cnservatin and research, set up sanctuaries like the Sepilk rangutan sanctuary in Sabah. It is kinder t leave the animals in their natural hme—the wild.
A. This in turn causes animals t live shrter lives.
B. We have als heard abut animals being mistreated.
C. Hwever, sme peple argue against keeping wild animals in zs.
D. They have t carry ut research n the survival rate f this species.
E. Staff must be hired and trained t take care f each species f animals.
F. In additin, zs allw scientists t study animal behavir mre easily.
G. In cnclusin, it is cruel and selfish t keep animals in an unnatural prisn.

Text 10
M: We’re glad t have Dr Garfield t talk t us tday abut dreams. Let me start by asking the first questin. Des everyne dream?
W: It appears that everyne des. Mstly, when peple say that they never dream, what they really mean is that they dn’t remember their dreams r they dn’t think their dreams are imprtant. The reasn behind is that they might have been made fun f as a child when they first reprted their dreams r it was s frightening that they just turned ff dreaming cmpletely. The ther day smene named Davis came t me and said that he used t be a great dreamer. But suddenly, he stpped having dreams. I asked him what had happened. It turned ut that his brther died f a heart attack. And he never expected that such a terrible thing wuld happen t a yung persn. Generally, when there was sme frightening event and t dream abut it was t terrible, peple prefer nt t dream abut it. Actually, the wrst thing yu can d is stp dreaming, because it means that the bad experience was t painful t even appear in dreams. As lng as yu’re dreaming abut it and even if the dreams are frightening, yur mind is wrking n it. My persnal pinin abut what dreams d is that they help us deal with ur prblems. We see certain patterns take place in dreams when a persn is hurt deep inside, when a persn is seriusly ill r when a persn has been really sad. If peple turn ff their dreams ttally, it means they dn’t allw themselves t even think abut it.
