Hwever, I nticed a big difference in the way peple treated me as a sighted persn cmpared t a blind persn. Sme peple have lwer expectatins f what a blind persn can achieve.”
“Sme peple think it’s crazy and nt pssible t skate. It’s nt that crazy ... in my head. S I encurage peple t think that way — dn’t let ther peple cntrl yur life and decide what yu can and can’t d. Yu knw, it’s all up t yu,” he added.

Technlgy has given peple mre ways t cnnect, but has it als given them mre pprtunities t lie?
This is a prblem that scial psychlgists and cmmunicatin schlars have always wanted t wrk ut. The study cnducted by cmmunicatin researcher Jeff Hancck in 2004 is the first ne t investigate the cnnectin between deceptin (欺骗) rates and technlgy. In the study, Hancck had 28 students reprt the number f scial interactins they had via face-t-face cmmunicatin, the phne, instant messaging and email ver seven days. Students als reprted the number f times they lied in each scial interactin. The results suggested peple tld the mst lies per scial interactin n the phne. The fewest were tld via email.
The results are cnsistent with a framewrk Hancck called the “feature-based mdel”. Accrding t this mdel, specific aspects f a technlgy — whether peple can cmmunicate back and frth seamlessly (无缝地), whether the messages are fleeting and whether cmmunicatrs are distant — predict where peple tend t lie the mst.
Nw, it has been almst 20 years since Hancck cnducted his study. The ways we cmmunicate have als shifted — fewer phne calls and mre scial media messaging. Des Hancck’s result btained 20 years ag still hld up tday?
T answer this questin, I recruited a larger grup f participants and studied interactins frm mre frms f technlgy. A ttal f 250 peple recrded their scial interactins and number f interactins with a lie ver seven days, acrss face-t-face cmmunicatin, scial media, the phne, texting, vide chat and email.
As in Hancck’s study, peple tld the mst lies per scial interactin ver media that were synchrnus (同步进行的) and recrdless and when cmmunicatrs were distant: ver the phne r n vide chat. They tld the fewest lies per scial interactin via email.
Thugh mre wrk is needed t understand exactly why different media lead t different lying rates, it’s clear that certain media are better facilitatrs f deceptin than thers. And there’s a lw rate f lying acrss the bard, which means mst peple are hnest.
Peple ften believe that just because we use technlgy t interact, hnesty is harder t cme by and users aren’t well served. But my study has shwn that this perceptin is nt nly misguided, but als unsupprted by practical evidence. The belief that lying is rampant (猖獗的) in the digital age just desn’t match the data.
28.What des the “feature-based mdel” tell us?
A.The phne is a reliable frm f cmmunicatin.
B.Technlgy can help imprve cmmunicatin skills.
C.Lying rates are related with features f a technlgy.
D.Technlgy can be used t detect lies effectively.
29.What can we learn abut the authr’s new study?
A.It lasted fr a much lnger time than Hancck’s.
B.It prved that Hancck’s thery was n lnger applicable.

D.It invlved a wider range f elements in cmmunicatin than Hancck’s.
30.What d the results f the tw studies tell us?
A.Vide chat can help prevent peple frm lying.
B.Sme frms f media can be used as a tl fr lying.
C.The advancement f technlgy can increase lying rates.
D.Technlgy can influence ur cmmunicatin negatively.
31.What des the authr want t express in the last paragraph?
A.We shuld be cautius abut new technlgy.B.Peple are mre likely t lie in the digital age.
C.Technlgy wn’t affect the quality f hnesty.D.Technlgy shuld be blamed fr peple’s lying.
Mst peple enjy variety. We like t eat different fds frm meal t meal. We wear different clthes. We like t try new activities and visit new places. We becme bred when there is little variety. Nevertheless, there’s ne place where we tend t dislike variety, and that’s in each ther. We ften feel uncmfrtable with peple wh practise different habits, r hld beliefs r values that we d nt share.
There are reasns fr this. When we are expsed t new and different things, ur brain wrks a bit harder than usual. When we’re learning, ur nerve cells require mre resurces, such as water, salt, and varius ther chemicals. This extra metablic (新陈代谢的) activity can feel unsettling and unpleasant. And it can feel wrse if ur nervus system is already under pressure, like in the midst f the pandemic.
This srt f variatin may be uncmfrtable fr individuals, but it’s critical t the survival f any species. If all finches (雀科鸣鸟) were identical, fr example, and their envirnment changed in sme significant, harmful ways, like an increase in the temperature r a decrease in water, all f them wuld be equally affected and the species might becme extinct. This insight int variatin cmes frm Charles Darwin, and it’s knwn as ppulatin thinking. Mst peple assciate Darwin with his evlutinary thery f natural selectin, but ppulatin thinking may be an even greater scientific achievement. The idea f “survival f the fittest” implies that individuals must vary. Sme are mre suited than thers fr a given envirnment, making it easier fr them t survive, grw, and reprduce. Variatin is therefre a prerequisite fr natural selectin t wrk.
Dealing with the vast variety f humankind can be demanding and even annying at times, but it’s a gd investment, srt f like exercise fr yur brain. When yu meet smene wh lks different r thinks differently frm yu, treat yur discmfrt as a cue t be curius and learn instead f a signal f a prblem. Dn’t hld the view that the ther persn shuld be silenced. Ultimately, this mindset can make yu mre flexible in adapting t challenging situatins, and mre adaptable t change.
32.Which f the fllwing might make peple feel uncmfrtable?
A.Having an adventure in the wild.
    B.Taking a trip t a freign cuntry.
    C.Sharing traveling experiences with thers.
D.Scializing with peple frm diverse cultures.
33.What des the secnd paragraph fcus n?
A.Peple’s unwillingness t deal with new things.
B.The significance f learning new things in ur life.
C.The bilgical explanatins fr peple’s discmfrt.
D.The rle f the nervus system in learning new things.
34.What des the underlined wrd “prerequisite” in Paragraph 3 prbably mean?
    A.Requirement.B.Substitute.C.Mtivatin.D.Challenge.
35.What des the writer mainly want t cnvey?
A.Why we tend t chase and enjy variatin.
B.Hw we can benefit frm seeking variatin.
C.Hw we shuld treat the differences we find in thers.
D.Why we shuld get alng with peple different frm us.
As much as 80 percent f premature heart disease is preventable by making specific lifestyle chices. 36 But thers may nt have crssed yur mind. “A small change in yur everyday rutine can ptentially have a big impact in the lng run,” says preventive cardilgist Dr. Beth Abramsn.●Get eight hurs f sleep.
“When yu're nt rested, everything that happens in yur life is a lt mre stressful,” says Dr. Arya Sharma, a prfessr f medicine at the University f Alberta. If we're sleep deprived, ur bdies als have mre difficulty cntrlling bld pressure, inflammatin and glucse levels. 37 ● 38
Ding gd fr thers helps yur self-esteem and relieves stress. Research published in Psychsmatic Medicine in 2016 shwed that a feeling f purpse in life is linked t a lwer likelihd f heart attack and strke. “We knw that lneliness is a risk factr fr heart health,” adds Sharma. “Vlunteering gets yu ut f the huse and creates a scial netwrk.”●Avid plluted air.
Expsure t this kind f pllutin ver time raises yur risk f heart disease. Inhaling cntaminants frmed frm chemicals like Sulphur (硫) dixide, carbn and nitrgen xides may irritate arteries (动脉) and increase inflammatin. 39 Try t get yur utdr exercise far away frm highways and industrial districts, and spend mre time indrs when the air quality index is pr.●Eat breakfast.
A recent study in the Jurnal f the American Cllege f Cardilgy fund that healthy peple wh skipped breakfast were almst three times mre likely t have heart disease six years later than thse wh partk in a substantial mrning meal. Accrding t Abramsn, yu need t eat a balanced diet as part f a healthy lifestyle. 40 If yu're eating a prper breakfast, yu’re less likely t be hungry later and make pr fd chices.

    B.Engage in vluntary wrk.

Sme are mre suited than thers fr a given envirnment, making it easier fr them t survive, grw, and reprduce.”(“适者生存”的观念意味着个体必须有所不同。 故选A项。
根据文章大意以及根据第二段“There are reasns fr this”(这个是有原因的)最后一段“Dealing with the vast variety f humankind can be demanding and even annying at times, but it’s a gd investment, srt f like exercise fr yur brain.

[高分句型2] N sner had she unflded it than a relieved and happy smile blmed n her face, which made Luke feel much better.(n sner… than…
[高分句型3] We didn’t have t say anything else; we all knew it was frgiveness that was the mst imprtant step in healing.(it was… that…
