I am an eclgist frm Zimbabwe, but I’ve been based at the Natinal University f Lesth in Maseru fr mre than 13 years. Lesth is a muntainus inland kingdm in suthern Africa. Its high-altitude (高海拔的) wetlands supprt the Lesth Highlands Water Prject, which delivers water t the Vaal River System in Suth Africa, generating bth incme and electricity fr Lesth.
I study the eclgical balance that keeps thse areas functining prperly: The wetlands t rap water when it rains and release it gradually during dry perids. An imprtant part f this is t map the plants, animals and general envirnmental cnditins, and hw they change ver time.
One f ur team prjects mnitrs the sundscapes f thse areas t identify the animals that live there. We put sensitive recrding equipment in the field fr weeks at a time. This is f great help because, althugh that site is just 180 kilmeters frm my university in the capital f Lesth, it can take up t fur hurs t drive there.
The data we gather are huge, and althugh we d listen t the recrdings, we mainly use sftware t help us analyze the data. We want t cmpare ur recrdings between seasns, between dawn and dusk (晨昏) and between day and night, t understand the rhythms f the ecsystem. We als cmpare ur recrdings frm different wetland types. High-altitude areas are easier t be affected by climate change and, in my view, it is the greatest threat thse prtected wetlands face.
Listening t the recrdings makes me happy because I enjy hearing a variety f sunds, especially the singing f different birds. In a small cuntry like Lesth, there are s many knwledge gaps t fill — it’s ne f the benefits f being a researcher there. I hpe that in the future sme f yu in this classrm will cntribute t this as well.
24. What des the underlined wrd “this” in paragraph 2 refer t?
A Cllecting water n rainy days.B. Harvesting electric pwer.
C. Studying the eclgical balance.D. Surviving during dry perids.
25. Why is it helpful t leave the recrding equipment in the field fr weeks?
A. It can attract mre animal lvers.B. It can save time n traveling there.
C. It can ffer directins t new drivers.D. It can test the quality f the equipment.
26. What is paragraph 4 mainly abut?
A. What t d with the recrdings.B. Why climate change is a threat.
C. Hw t recrd sunds in the wild.D. When natural sunds are recrded.
27. Where can yu mst prbably find the text?

I am an eclgist frm Zimbabwe, but I’ve been based at the Natinal University f Lesth in Maseru fr mre than 13 years. Lesth is a muntainus inland kingdm in suthern Africa. Its high-altitude (高海拔的) wetlands supprt the Lesth Highlands Water Prject, which delivers water t the Vaal River System in Suth Africa, generating bth incme and electricity fr Lesth.

根据上文“Peple perceive happiness differently, with sme seeing the glass half full while thers half empty. Snja Lyubmirsky, a scial psychlgist, explained that happiness cmprises psitive emtins and life satisfactin.(人们对幸福的看法不同,有些人看到的是半满的杯子,而有些人看到的是半空的杯子。社会心理学家Snja Lyubmirsky解释说,幸福包括积极的情绪和生活满意度)”以及后文“Can yu change yur set range t be a happier persn? She believes that we can change hw we think and hw we behave and als we can change ur habits r develp a new habit. Happy peple tend t have such certain habits.(为了成为一个更快乐的人,你能改变你的设定范围吗?
根据后文“On the cntrary, try smething as casual and relaxing as cmpleting a grup prject at the ffice r enjying a hbby with yur partner.(相反,尝试一些随意和放松的事情,比如在办公室完成一个小组项目,或者和你的同伴一起享受一个爱好)”可知,后文提到了相反的做法是尝试一些随意和放松的事情,推测本句是在说明从事冒险活动。
根据后文“When it cmes t yur happiness level, persnal relatinships have a bigger impact than mney, a jb title r even yur health. “Spending mre quality time with yur partner, spuse, r kids, r recnnecting with ld friends, are sure-fire ways t increase yur wn and thers’ average levels f jy.” Lyubmirsky said “pick a relatinship in need f strengthening, and invest time and energy in healing, cultivating and enjying it.”(当涉及到你的幸福水平时,人际关系比金钱、职位甚至你的健康都有更大的影响。
根据上文“Lyubmirsky said “pick a relatinship in need f strengthening, and invest time and energy in healing, cultivating and enjying it.”(柳博米尔斯基说:“选择一段需要加强的关系,投入时间和精力来修复、培养和享受它。”)”
根据上文“Practice randm acts f kindness and express gratitude. Take a mment t d nice things fr thers. “Being kind t ther peple brings n a lt f psitive results. It makes yu feel generus and capable, leads yu t feel grateful abut yur wn situatin, and gives yu a greater sense f intercnnectedness with the wrld,” Lyubmirsky said.(偶尔做些善事,表达感激之情。
