They lk very ld and simple. Yu might even say they’re a little shabby. They dn’t fit the mdern idea f the university at all. The buildings are surrunded by grass and trees, s I felt as if I had walked int an ancient castle. But when I lked acrss the street, busy shps and in-fashin students made me feel like I was in the 21st century again. It creates a strng cntrast and brings a special atmsphere t the schl.
Our tur guide Gary tk us arund and tld us, “Yu see this grass field in the center f the schl? Here is where they hst their graduatin ceremny. They just set up tents and benches and have a very simple ceremny.” Unbelievable! Wh wuld think the mst talented students just graduate n the lawn?

Small talk has a reputatin fr being uninteresting, and fr gd reasn. Pinting ut the fact that it’s raining seems as ridiculus as pinting ut the fact that yu have a head—yu’re fully aware f bth things, and dn’t require an utsider t cnfirm them. But despite being evident and ften painfully dull, small talk has an imprtant rle t fulfill, enabling us t leap ver a number f scial bstacles twards imprved, meaningful interactin.
Humans can be sensitive suls. We each have ur bundaries and lists f ptential upsets, which when brken, cause us t either gently back away t an alternative psitin in the rm, r becme annyed at the persn. Small talk is first a way t test the waters with an unfamiliar persn, s that yu may better understand their persnality. When finding yurself psitined clsely t a persn wh yu knw little abut, it’s much safer t pint ut the rainy sky than t share yur plitical views n a sensitive tpic. Until yu knw the persn better, heavier tpics shuld prbably be kept under wraps, s yu wn’t find yurself n the receiving end f a cld stare.
Thugh insignificant, small talk still has great pwer. When talking with fellw humans, much f ur sul is expsed thrugh nn-verbal cmmunicatin. A respnse t “hw was yur weekend” can uncver much abut the persn’s character. The length f their respnse might indicate their level f self-cnfidence; the tne f speaking might shw hw agreeable a persn is; their slightly lwered head, as if prtecting themselves frm attack, is a pssible sign f a regrettable histry f bullying.
As mre f a persn’s character is revealed, we have the insight needed t determine whether t put frward mre significant tpics—the things that we actually want t talk abut. Cnversatin is a great educatr, and deep cnversatins establish lasting bnds with ur fellw humans, frming precius friendships that paint ur lives with vivid clrs. Such friendships begin with small talk.
28. What dcs the first paragraph mainly talk abut?

B. Ridiculus human behavir in cmmunicatin.

B. Because they are enthusiastic abut plitics.
C. Because they are t sensitive abut bundaries.
D. Because they fail t manage interpersnal distance.
30. What might be a sign f friendliness accrding t Paragraph 3?
A. The length f the answer.B. The quality f the vice.
C. The psitin f the head.D. The distance between speakers.
31. What might be the best title fr the text?
A. Sensitive Human SulsB. Ways f Understanding Persnality
C. Significance f Small TalkD. Challenging Deep Cnversatins

Researchers als saw greater transfer f micrbes t the aprn when vlunteers used the air dryer. “The study was perfrmed in a healthcare setting and has imprtant lessns fr health institutins that still have high-speed air dryers, but the results are als relevant fr public restrms, Dr Ines Mura, a research fellw at the University f Leeds and an authr f the study, said, "Based n the cntaminatin bserved, we questin the chice f air dryers.” The study was published in the jurnal Infectin Cntrl & Hspital Epidemilgy.
