At first, Michael didn’t see the black smke r flames shting frm the windws f his neighbrs’ hme. After a few minutes in the smke-filled huse, he retreated utside t catch his breath. “Where is Tiara?” he asked desperately.
“The secnd flr,” her aunt shuted back.
Michael knew he culdn’t hld his breath fr lng. Hwever, taking a deep breath, he went in a secnd time. The darkness was verwhelming. Yet because the huse had a similar design t his, he made it t the secnd flr. He turned t the right and was met by intense heat. He was already ut f breath.
“Baby girl, where are yu?”
His thrat and lungs burned as if he’d inhaled fire instead f the smke in the air. Every blink stung his eyes. All he culd hear was the crackling and ppping f burning wd.
