What cmes t mind when yu think f bxing? Perhaps it is an versized and muscular persn in the ring with anther equally big persn, bth with big and thick bxing glves n, ready t fight. Interestingly enugh, bxing is nt always abut fighting. It can be mre abut exercising and letting energy ut in a fun way, and using the bxing techniques t help manage their symptms. Bxing gives kids cnfidence, helps peple with autism wrk n their reactin time and even helps them achieve better sleep. The club Archie ges t, The Frt Bxing Club, des exactly that fr him. He’s been attending the club three times a week and even helped the club raise funds in a recent campaign.
Sme f the classic struggles fr peple with autism, accrding t the Kennedy Krieger Institute, are scial challenges, repetitive behavir, sensry issues and difficulty with cmmunicatin. Therefre, ne f the things that helps and psitively benefits bth children and adults with autism is exercise. Physical activity can have an excellent impact n their behavir, especially when it cmes t their repetitive and disruptive behavir. Perhaps this is ne f the reasns Archie is s int bxing.
Bxing nt nly gives him physical activity and the benefits that cme with that. It als gives him structure and is a really therapeutic activity fr him. Anther special thing abut Archie’s relatinship with bxing is the club he wrks ut in. Daniel Bailey, the club’s wner, said that Archie feels like part f a family there. Genetic (基因的) frms f blindness affect thusands f peple. Leber Cngenital Amaursis (LCA), is a rare cnditin that ccurs in ne in 40,000 newbrns and peple with LCA have a genetic mutatin (突变) that causes highly reduced visin and cmplete blindness in arund a third f the peple wh have it, reprted New Atlas. There are n apprved treatment ptins but nw there is new hpe in restring visin in peple with the cnditin.
The BRILLIANCE trial, which has been running since 2020, has been researching ways t use CRISPR gene-editing t change the gene that is respnsible fr LCA. There are 14 participants-12 adults and tw children-in the trial and this is the first time that the gene-editing treatment was delivered directly t the eye. The results f the first three years has been published in the New England Jurnal f Medicine.
In the trial, reprted CNN, each patient received treatment in nly ne eye s the results culd be weighed against the untreated eye. Each participant underwent a surgical prcedure that injected a drug called EDIT-101 that cntains the CRISPR gene-editing cmpnents, directly inside the cells under the retina (视网膜). Fur utcmes were measured that included: identifying different bjects and the letters n an eye chart; hw well the participants culd navigate a maze; hw well they culd see clred lights; and their wn reprted imprvements in visin, accrding t New Atlas.
“There is nthing mre rewarding t a physician than hearing a patient describe hw their visin has imprved after a treatment,” Mark Pennesi, crrespnding authr f the study, tld New Atlas. “One f ur trial participants has shared several examples, including being able t find their phne after misplacing it and knwing that their cffee machine is wrking by seeing its small lights.”
“While these types f tasks might seem trivial t thse wh are nrmally sighted, such imprvements can have a huge impact n quality f life fr thse with lw visin.”

When yu’re anxius, yu might feel yur heart race. Is yur heart racing because yu’re afraid? Or des yur speeding heart itself cntribute t yur anxiety? Bth culd be true, a new study in mice suggests.
By increasing the heart rates f mice, scientists were able t increase anxiety-like behavirs. The study, published in Nature, shws that in high-risk cntexts, a racing heart culd g t yur head and increase anxiety. The findings culd ffer a new angle fr studying and, ptentially, treating anxiety disrders.
The brain certainly can sense inner bdy signals, a phenmenn called interceptin. But whether thse sensatins — like a racing heart — can cntribute t emtin is difficult t prve, says Anna Beyeler, a neurscientist at the French Natinal Institute f Health and Medical Research in Brdeaux. She studies brain circuitry related t emtin and wrte a cmmentary n the new study but was nt invlved in the research. “I’m sure a lt f peple have thught f ding these experiments, but n ne really had the tls,” she says.
Deisserth has spent his career develping thse tls. He is ne f the scientists wh develped ptgenetics — a technique that uses viruses t adjust the genes f specific cells t respnd t bursts f light. Scientists can use the light switch t activate r suppress the activity f thse cells.
In the new study, Deisserth and his clleagues used a light attached t a tiny vest ver a muse’s genetically engineered heart t change the animal’s heart rate. When the light was ff, a muse’s heart pumped at abut 600 beats per minute. But when the team turned n a light that flashed at 900 beats per minute, the muse’s heartbeat fllwed suit.
As the mice felt their hearts racing, they shwed anxiety-like behavir. When pressing a lever fr water that culd smetimes be cupled with a mild shck, mice with nrmal heart rates still pressed withut hesitatin. But mice with racing hearts decided they’d rather g thirsty.
“Everybdy was expecting that, but it's the first time that it has been clearly shwed,” Beyelersays.
    32. Why was Anna Beyeler nt engaged in the research?
    A. She had never thught f ding experiments.
    B. Her research field was cmpletely unrelated.
    C. She was nly expert in cmmentary writing.
    D. Scientific tls fr the research were ut f reach.
    33. What d the underlined wrds “fllwed suit” in Paragraph 5 refer t?
    A. Changed accrdingly.B. Stpped suddenly.
    C. Decreased gradually.D. Disappeared slwly.
    34. The new study was meaningful because
    A. It prvided a unique angle t d experiments with mice.
B It stimulated anxiety-like behavir in mice with bursts f light.
    C. It advanced the develpment f genes mdificatin with viruses.
    D. It clearly prved the relatinship between heart race and anxiety.
    35. What might be the best title fr the text?
    A. A Tiny Vest with Gene Mdificatin Functin
    B. A Pineer in Develping Experimental Tls
    C. Making a Relaxed Muse Nervus with a Racing Heart
    D. Increasing Anxiety-like Behavirs in High-risk Cntexts
