    But I culdn’t help beginning a gd,hard think abut my smking and what I was ging t d abut it.The mre I thught abut it,the mre I questined what I really lved abut it.Then came the sudden realizatin:I was an addict—I was making all the kind f excuses that the alchl and drug addicts made.
    I decided t quit.But after a few days when ut fr drinks with friends,I yielded t temptatin(诱惑) and had ne.The next day I bught a pack f cigarettes and my very first quit attempt was well and truly a failure.But I learned frm this and decided the next attempt wuld be better planned.I investigated different ptins nline,and met with a smking cessatin(戒烟) nurse at my lcal surgery wh used sme techniques t change my thinking abut smking. 
    With all the supprt arund me,I felt s cnfident abut my ability t quit.I actually lked frward t the date I’d set t stp.That was nearly 10 years ag and I haven’t lked back.Of curse,in the early days it wasn’t always plain sailing.There were times when I was weak and times when I nearly slipped up.But I was prepared fr this and didn’t let it thrw me ff.     Knrath says the current findings suggest it may be a pr idea t encurage peple t vlunteer because it’s gd fr them.“Vlunteering is increasingly being encuraged in schls and rganizatins.Sme grups say that it’s kay t want benefits fr yurself,and encurage peple t think f vlunteering as an exchange fr persnal interests.Sme grups emphasize the health benefits received thrugh vlunteering.” Knrath added,“Of curse,it’s reasnable fr vlunteers t expect benefits fr themselves.But the ptential health benefits f vlunteering are significantly reduced if self-benefit becmes a persn’s main mtive.”
