In the 1970s, a new supermarket selling LPs arrived in my hmetwn and I began devting my pcket mney t acquiring recrds. I swiftly develped an affectin fr Beethven’s Mnlight Snata, harbring dreams f perfrming that music myself. Despite the absence f a pian at hme, there was ne at my grandmther’s care hme, where I learned t play Beethven by ear, with pigens cing and farmers wrking in the fields. It was truly magical.
Entering the Ryal Academy f Arts at 16 marked the beginning f my artistic jurney. In my 30s, I tk anther significant step in life — marriage. My wife wrked at Elephants Wrld, a reserve dedicated t the care f rescued dmestic elephants. These elephants have wrked fr humans all their life and many are blind r disabled frm being treated badly, s I wanted t make the effrt t carry smething heavy myself. Fr my 50th birthday, my wife successfully persuaded the manager t allw us t bring a pian int the reserve, bringing music t the elephants’ lives.
Initially, when I started playing, it was hard t hear the pian abve the sunds f nature and the elephants chewing grass. Hwever, everything changed when a blind elephant ceased eating and tuned int my playing. It struck me that this elephant, trapped in a wrld f darkness, had a prfund lve fr music. Frm that mment n, there was n lnger any cncern abut disturbing their peace. We ccasinally film these perfrmances, and nw, we prudly have nearly 700,000 YuTube subscribers.
I cntinue t play fr these elephants that run freely in the reserve, despite the cnstant ptential danger. Surprisingly, it’s the mdy male elephants wh shw the mst fascinatin with the music. I firmly believe it has a calming effect. These elephants’ breathing actually slws dwn when I play, which tells me they are relaxed and happy. I’ve even witnessed elephants seemingly dancing t Beethven’s tunes. With their exceptinal hearing and the ability t sense vibratins (震动) thrugh their feet, I am cnvinced that elephants grasp the language f human expressin. This serves as a pwerful illustratin that music serves as a universal language, cnnecting us all.

Cmmercial fishing is knwn t threaten sharks and rays wrldwide. Research has fund that 24 per cent f the average mnthly space used by sharks arund the wrld falls under the ftprint f distant lng line fisheries. This is when hks hang near the surface t catch fish like tuna and swrdfish. A quarter f shark habitats are within active fishing znes.
It is estimated that ver 20,000,000 sharks are caught as bycatch every year. Stingrays are als frequently caught as bycatch. “Bycatch” refers t unwanted fish and marine creatures caught by cmmercial fishing equipment, and is typically discarded (丢弃) verbard either dead r dying.
Shark Guard was designed by marine scientists t prtect sharks and rays frm fishing equipment. It is a small battery-pwered device that can be fastened n the line next t a baited hk and gives ff a shrt pulse every tw secnds.
Study fund that the device reduced the number f blue sharks caught in a French lng line tuna fishery in the Mediterranean by 91 per cent, and stingrays by 71 per cent. Educatin tday really isn’t that much different frm what it was a hundred years ag. It’s still classrms full f students all learning the same thing at the same pace frm teachers wh spend thirty years teaching mre r less the same thing.
Hwever, the wrld that the next generatin will grw up in will be different frm anything we have seen. It will be a wrld filled with artificial intelligence, genetic engineering, autmatin, virtual reality, persnalized medicine, self-driving cars, and peple n Mars; a wrld where peple might nt even have jbs and where sciety itself may be arranged in fundamentally different ways. Hw are we suppsed t knw hw t prepare them t succeed in a wrld that we cannt predict?
It starts by rethinking what a schl is. The rle f schl shuld n lnger be t fill heads with infrmatin, rather it shuld be a place that inspires students t be curius abut the wrld they live in. Dn’t hld back that curisity by making them spend their childhds preparing fr ne test after anther.
The ability t adapt and learn smething new shuld be valued abve all else. Gne are the days when yu pick a prfessin and just d that ne thing fr the rest f yur life. Peple will need t knw hw t learn smething new multiple times ver in their lives because ur knwledge f the wrld and wh we are is prgressing incredibly quickly. If the last time yu learned anything new was when yu were in schl then yu will be missing ut n the new ways f understanding the wrld.
In additin, educatin shuld give peple an understanding that the wrld is nt divided up int different subjects. All fields f knwledge bleed int each ther and nne can be fully understd in islatin (孤立).
Much f this may seem idealistic r unrealistic, but change is needed if we are ging t figure ut hw t live in the future.
    32. What’s the purpse f the first paragraph?
    A. T present the cmplexity f educatin.
    B. T stress the imprtance f educatin.
    C. T describe what educatin used t be like.
    D. T suggest educatin is far behind the times.
    33. What shuld be the rle f schl?
    A T inspire students’ curisity.
    B. T guarantee happy childhd.
    C. T prvide sufficient infrmatin.
    D. T prepare students fr a lifelng prfessin.
34 What will the authr agree?
    A. One shuld learn as much as he can at schl.
    B. Schls shuld teach new ways t change the wrld.
    C. Students’ ability t adapt shuld be the pririty f educatin.
    D. Schl subjects reflect hw the wrld is divided int different fields.
    35. What is the best title f the text?
    A. Standards Tests Remve Students’ Curisity
    B. Gne Are the Days f Traditinal Schl Educatin
    C. It’s Time t Change Hw We Educate Our Children
    D. Change in Educatin Is T Idealistic and Unrealistic
