Fr six hundred years, the Twer f Lndn's mst extic (异域风情的) prisners were animals.
The Menagerie (动物园) began as a result f kings exchanging rare and strange animals as gifts. In 1235, Henry Ⅲ was delighted t be presented with three wildcats by the Hly Rman Emperr Frederick Ⅱ. These inspired him t start a z at the Twer. Henry's ‘wildcats’, althugh described as lepards, were prbably lins. In 1252 the lins were jined by a ‘white bear’ prbably a plar bear—given by the King f Nrway. In 1255, the King f France sent the first elephant ever seen in England and ‘peple flcked tgether t see the nvel sight’. Sadly, the elephant died tw years later.
Pr treatment and cramped cnditins meant many f the animals did nt survive fr lng. But the Menagerie cntinued t grw. Edward I created a permanent new hme fr the Menagerie at the western entrance t the Twer in what became knwn as the Lin Twer. By 1622, the cllectin had been extended t include three eagles, tw pumas, a tiger and a jackal, as well as lins and lepards, wh were the main attractins.

Accrding t NASA, summer ice in the Arctic is decreasing by mre than each decade, and this year the Natinal Snw and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) reprted the secnd lwest levels f summer sea ice ever recrded. The 14 lwest levels f sea ice have all ccurred in the past 14 years, accrding t the NSIDC.
