But nature already has a pretty gd desalinatin system — the sun is heating up the surface f the cean and evaprating water ut f it, which f curse ges n t becme rain. In a new study, the UIUC team came up with a methd t use this resurce. The team prpses that structures culd be built several kilmeters ffshre t btain air rich in water vapr frm abve the cean surface. That air can then be piped back t land and turned int water. This fresh water culd then be used fr drinking, agriculture, r whatever else a regin needs it fr. The whle system culd be pwered by ffshre wind farms and land-based slar panels.
The researchers evaluated 14 cities arund the wrld, analyzing hw much water culd be cllected based n the ffshre air in thse lcatins.
