Reverse turism has emerged as a new trend amng yung hlidaymakers in China.
Als, sme vacatiners chse less-travelled places t save n the cst f trips t ppular destinatins, which ften require pricey tickets, meals and htel stays. "Turism used t be abut sightseeing. Nw it is abut experiences," said Dai Bin, president f the China Turism Academy. He said ppular turist spts are always packed and ften raise their prices during hlidays. As peple becme mre mature travellers, they are increasingly unwilling t fllw the herd. Sme f them are simply lking t take a rest smewhere quiet fr a cuple f days, which is a gd way t vacatin.
In additin, lesser-knwn attractins are nt as "cmmercial" and "standardized" as develped nes and are able t ffer mre genuine experiences and natural encunters, accrding t scial media psts. And unlike ppular destinatins, sme under-explred places with little nline expsure can ffer mre surprises. Besides, as precautinary measures cntinue, travelling has an unpredictable quality. A traveller has n way f knwing what lies ahead befre departure, be it a perfect hliday r ne interrupted by a sudden utbreak.
"The rise f reverse turism is nt a bad thing," said an pinin piece in ZhengzhuDaily. It means that vacatiners nw have mre ptins, which brings mre pssibilities t the turism market, the article explains. Mre imprtantly, the trend is set t frce ppular destinatins t imprve themselves instead f resting n their achievements.

    3. Why d peple chse lesser-knwn attractins accrding t scial media psts?
    A. T create surprises n their wn.
    B. T explre riginal beauty.
    C. T prmte the lcal turism.

Brn in 1902, Harry Beck was an English engineering draftsman(制图员) wh brught abut a small revlutin in the early 1930s when he created a cmpletely new map f the Lndn Undergrund.
Befre Beck’s design, early maps were usually drawn t a gegraphically accurate scale(比例). Map designers simply placed the subway lines n standard maps f the city streets. These maps clearly shwed the subway lines that reached the areas utside the centre f Lndn, but they made it difficult t make ut the busy lines that jined directly under central Lndn.
In the 1930s, Beck came up with a slutin that wuld nt take the gegraphical accuracy int accunt. He created a map that was a scaled-dwn linear diagram f the subway lines. Mre a basic utline f the lines than a true-t-life map, it didn’t tell travelers abut hw far it actually was between tw pints. Beck’s map had a clean structure with clured lines. His idea was t create the plainest guide t shw travellers hw t get frm ne statin t anther.
It’s nt clear what inspired him t start the prject; he wasn’t asked t d it, but likely develped his design in his free time, while between jbs. It was mre a presentatin f his being inventive, in seeing a prblem and cming up with an answer t it, than a respnse t public demand.
His design was then presented t the Lndn Passenger Transprt Bard, whse members refused t accept it, feeling that nt shwing relative distances between statins was silly and unreasnable. Still, after a time, in rder t increase subway ridership and therefre earn mre mney, the Bard decided t print a limited number f cpies. Gradually, Beck’s map became a huge success.
Fr mst f his life, Beck cntinued t make small imprvements t the diagram, but he kept its basic designs and ideas. His clear diagrammatic methd f mapping has been generally accepted and fllwed in the field f infrmatin design nt nly in Lndn but als arund the wrld.
    diagrammatic adj.
His design was then presented t the Lndn Passenger Transprt Bard, whse members refused t accept it,{feeling (that nt shwing relative distances between
    statins was silly and unreasnable)}.
    1. What is the disadvantage f early subway maps?
    A. They were nt t scale.
    B. They were hard t draw.
    C. They were nt user-friendly.
    D. They were seldm updated.
由第二段中的"but they made it difficult t make ut the busy lines that jined directly under central Lndn"可知,早期的地铁线路图使用起来不方便,故选C。
    2. Which aspect f a subway map did Beck fcus n?
    A. Its simplicity.
    B. Its vivid details.
    C. Its cmpleteness.
    D. Its gegraphical accuracy.
Mre a basic utline f the lines than a true-t-life map"和"His idea was t create the plainest guide... frm ne statin t anther"可知,Beck注重的是地铁线路图的简明性,故选A。
    3. What d we knw abut Beck’s map frm paragraphs 4 and 5?
    A. It was created accidentally.
    B. It was an immediate success.
    C. It was a reflectin f his creativity.
    D. It was designed t meet public need.
It was mre a presentatin f his being inventive... a respnse t public demand"可知,本题选C。
    4. Hw did Beck cntribute t the wrld?
    A. He changed the cnstructin f subways.
    B. He inspired designers t imprve subway maps.
    C. He made the first scaled-dwn linear map.

His clear diagrammatic methd f mapping... but als arund the wrld"可知,Beck的绘图方式被广泛接受和沿用。
