My daughter was being thrwn ut f the sixth grade. The teacher said, “She may nt be up t what we’re trying t accmplish.” He was really saying she didn’t have the intelligence. I gt mad because I knew she was smart, just as my father had knwn I was smart when I was failing in schl. We had her tested. I decided t get myself tested as well, and fund that the trubles she was having were exactly what I had had — dyslexia. By then I was a successful televisin writer, and had wn an Emmy Award fr “The Rckfrd Files.”
If I had knwn earlier that smething beynd my cntrl culd explain why I was a lw achiever, I may nt have wrked s hard in my late 20s and early 30s. I was writing and writing. I was wrking fr n ther reasn than t hear peple praise me, because I did badly in all my curses.
I nce asked a friend wh had always gtten an A, “Hw lng did yu study fr this?” He said, “I didn’t. I just glanced at it.” S he must be smarter. I began t ask, “What will happen t me when I’m nt gd at anything?” Despite my dubts, I did becme successful, and peple nw say t me, “S yu’ve vercme dyslexia.”
N. Yu dn’t vercme it, yu learn t cmpensate fr it. Sme easy things are very hard fr me. Mst peple wh g thrugh cllege read twice as fast as I d. I avid dialing a phne if I can, because I smetimes have t try three times t get the number right.
Despite my weaknesses I view dyslexia as a gift, nt a curse (诅咒). Many dyslexics are gd at right-brain, abstract thught, and that’s what my kind f creative writing is. And I can write quickly, and can get up t 15 pages a day. Writing is my strength.
The real fear I have fr dyslexic children is nt they have t struggle in schl, but that they will quit n themselves befre they get ut f schl. Parents have t create victries fr them, whether it’s music, sprts r art. Yu can make yur dyslexic child able t say, “Yeah, reading is hard. But I have ther things I can d.”

It can be incredibly difficult t encurage urselves t g fr a run during winter, particularly when it’s wet and windy utside. In fact, it seems that just a 10-minute sessin will nt nly make us feel better, but culd actually imprve brain health, t. Nw, we all knw that exercise can imprve mental and physical health in many ways.
But when it cmes t mental well-being, there’s been relatively little research dne n the specific benefits f running, cmpared with ther physical activities, such as cycling. S this was smething put t the test during a recent study. Researchers frm University f Tsukuba in Japan asked participants (参加者) t run n a treadmill (跑步机) fr just 10 minutes. They then had t take a Strp Clr and Wrd Test which is used t measure reactin time in brain prcessing. Results shwed there was a highest pint in self-reprted pleasure and an increase in degree f activity f the brain.
In ther wrds, runners were fund t have an increase in bld flw in the part f the brain that’s assciated with dealing with functins and cntrlling md (情绪). Researchers then cmpared these results t a similar study n cycling, which als shwed imprved cgnitin (认知), but n md imprvement. Therefre, it seems varius types f exercise can make us feel differently.
The authrs nted, “Given exercise is medicine, the effects f drugs differ depending n the type f drug, and different types f exercise such as running and cycling shuld be bserved t have different effects n mental health and brain functins as well.”
S pushing urselves t get utside fr a run really will make us feel better, prbably mre than ther fitness activities. And these findings shw that we dn’t necessarily need t d a lt f exercise t feel the benefit f it.

B. Running is the best exercise.
C A shrt time run can be beneficial.

Livestreaming (直播) thrugh channels such as Amazn Live and QVC is an increasingly ppular way t sell gds nline. It usually lasts between 5 and 10 minutes, and smene prmtes a prduct. Viewers can then readily buy it by clicking n a link.
We analyzed (分析) 99451 sales cases n a livestream selling platfrm and matched them with actual sales cases. In terms f time, that is equal t ver 2 millin 30-secnd televisin advertisements.
T determine the emtinal (情绪的) expressin f the salespersn, we used tw deep learning mdels: a face mdel and an emtin mdel. The face mdel discvers the presence r absence f a face in a frame f a vide stream. The emtin mdel then determines the prbability that a face is exhibiting any f the six basic human emtins: happiness, sadness, surprise, anger, fear r disgust. Fr example, smiling signals a high prbability f happiness, while an ff-putting expressin usually pints tward anger.
We wanted t see the effect f emtins expressed at different times in the sales cases s we cunted prbabilities fr each emtin fr all 62 millin frames in ur database. We then cmbined these prbabilities with ther pssible aspects that might drive sales — such as price and prduct characteristics — t judge the effect f emtin.
We fund that, perhaps unsurprisingly, when salespeple shw mre negative emtins — such as anger and disgust — the vlume f sales went dwn. But we als fund that a similar thing happened when the salespeple shw high levels f psitive emtins, such as happiness r surprise.
A likely explanatin, based n ur research, is that smiling can be disgusting because it lacks true feelings and can reduce trust in the seller. A seller’s happiness may be taken as a sign that the seller is gaining interests at the custmer’s expense.
12. What can we knw abut the livestreaming t sell gds nline?
A. It challenges the physical ecnmy.
B. It helps big cmpany sell all gds.
C. It is very cnvenient fr the buyers.
D. It helps the sellers develp fixed expressins.
13. What des the underlined wrd “ff-putting” mean in paragraph 3?
A. Unhappy.B. Embarrassed.
C. Surprised.D. Shy.
14. Hw d custmers feel abut the seller’s smiling?
A. They feel thankful.B. They feel happy.
C. They feel cheated.D. They feel s tired.
15. Which f the fllwing culd be the best title fr the text?
A. Livestreamers Sell Prducts Successfully
B. Smiling Can Increase the Sales in Reality
C. Emtins and Faces: What’s the Difference
D. Expressins Affect Selling Prducts Online
