What is standard English? Des it really matter? With the rise f Internet technlgies, des anyne actually speak a pure ( 纯粹的) frm f their wn English anymre? Many English speakers have fund Americanisms slwly influencing their language. English may be the internatinal language f cmmunicatin — but which kind?
As a teacher, a favurite questin cntinually asked by my students is “Which is better, American r British English?” My answer is always the same, “It depends!” These days, we can als add the Australian variety, as learners in Asia where I live are mre expsed (暴露) t Australian English and are mre likely t study in Australia than in the United States r the UK, althugh the difference between Australian and British English is very small and mainly vcabulary-based.
S what can influence whether freign learners are better ff learning a particular standard f English? Put simply, it depends n what is mre suitable. Learners need t think ver their academic (学业的), wrk r scial needs. If smene is wrking fr a US-wned cmpany then the cmpany will prbably require American English in its written cmmunicatin. Similarly if yu are studying t be a tur guide in an area that has many British turists, it makes sense t pay mre attentin t that standard. If a learner is ging t study in Australia then studying Australian English will help him in the lng run.
When I have managed language schls, there was ften healthy cmpetitin between teachers f different natinalities (国籍) fr the imprtance f their particular standard f English. Language schls abrad may prefer ne particular standard f English, and therefre smetimes, understandably, give preference t that particular natinality f teacher.
Persnally thugh, I like t keep an pen mind, as there can als be advantages fr bth students and teachers. Students get t be expsed t mre varieties f English, prviding them with a mre well-runded educatin. S teachers shuld pay attentin t the differences in varieties, increasing their wn knwledge base.

The cause f deadly rad accidents is usually careless drivers r dangerus cnditins. The self-driven car may be able t prevent these. Hwever, sme peple dn’t like the idea. American lawyer White Drake, fr example, des nt believe these cars are safe. He thinks technlgies can als make mistakes.
