As my plane landed in Pamplna, Spain, I culdn’t help thinking., “I’m crazy abut ging abrad and taking classes in Spanish.” My biggest fear was whether I wuld be able t cmmunicate with Spanish speakers, and hw I wuld be able t adapt t a culture that is different in s many ways frm American culture.

When I first started, it was easy t get frustrated when I didn’t understand parts f what my prfessr was saying, r t feel embarrassed when I had t ask smene t repeat themselves many times. Hwever, peple ften plitely crrected me when I made a mistake, and als ffered supprt and wrds f encuragement. Nticing my wn prgress thrugh my increased ability t have a cnversatin has made the frustratin disslve. And it helped me reach my biggest piece f advice t anyne facing the same fear: t frce yurself t speak as much as pssible.
Anther challenge I faced was culture shck when I arrived in Spain. As smene used t stres always being pen in Seattle, I’ve had t get used t mst stres being clsed during afternn hurs and n Sundays. Plans are made much mre slwly, and usually at the last minute, which fr smene wh values rganizatin and certainty as much as I d, was difficult t get used t. The best way I fund t deal with the culture shck was t change my views. I’ve grwn t appreciate the Spanish attitude that there is mre t life than wrk. Family and friends are imprtant as well, and having s much time ff allws life utside wrk t be enjyed.
Living abrad is always frightening, especially when the language and culture are cmpletely freign. There will always be challenges, frustratins, and prblems. Hwever, learning t deal with them and appreciate the jurney has been ne f the mst valuable things I’ve learned while abrad.

Almst everyne wh has studied English has been warned abut the way Brits lve their manners. It is part f ur natinal identity, as much as fish and chips r cmplaining abut the weather. Recently I have been wndering where this cmes frm and I read nline that we say srry up t eight times a day. Prbably the same amunt f times that any ther persn says “hell” r “hw are yu”. It is almst like greetings t us! It was nly when I was explaining hw there are five steps f saying thank yu when yu buy smething frm a shp t a Mexican friend f mine that I realised hw mad it sunded.
After sme research nline I have nt been able t find any specific reasns why we are the way we are. I suppse fr centuries manners and hw we eat at the table and talk t ther peple have been the barriers between the lwer and upper classes and represent yur scial status. Britain has traditinally been a quite cnservative cuntry. There are many articles suggesting that this seemingly plite attitude f always saying please and thank yu is quite false because it is impssible t always feel that yu want t thank smene r say please.
Maybe it is fr this reasn that peple are ging ne f tw ways: they are incredibly plite and hld back n their feelings r nt plite at all, and express their true feelings. Sme Brits are fed up f pretending that they are always cntent and having t please peple. Smetimes because we feel we have t be plite, we are prevented frm saying what we truly think. D yu think it is better t nt hurt peple’s feelings and be plite r t let peple knw the truth? In yur cuntry what is the custm? I knw in sme cuntries if smene is cnsidered t be ding their jb, the clients think that they d nt need t be thanked.
32.What des the authr think f the British way f saying “Thank yu”?
A.Nrmal.B.Surprising.C.Exciting.D.Pleasing.
33.What des the authr want t find ut?
A.Why the British like t cmplain abut the weather.
B.Why the British lve their way f shwing manners.
C.Why the British are fnd f fish and chips s much.
D.Why the British have five steps f saying thank yu.
34.What des the authr think manners stand fr centuries?
A.Wealth and health.B.Scial status.C.Pliteness.D.Attitudes.
35.Why d Brits feel smetimes they have t be plite?
A.They want t express their true feelings.
B.They want t let peple knw the truth.
C.They are kept frm saying what they think.
D.They want t represent their scial status.
