Yesterday I had this feeling of wanting to fish by the St. Louis river. As I got to the river bank, I saw two pairs of married couples fishing. And a father was in his sailboat while his son was swimming right beside his sailboat. As I put my boat into the water to fish, everything seemed to be OK at least at the moment. The wind was becoming a little stronger and so were the waves (波浪) at a quicker rate. I watched the father pulling his anchor (锚). His son continued swimming.
Ten minutes later, as I was in what I believed at the time was a big fish. I heard a scream that no parent ever wants to hear. The sound was a child screaming for his life as he was being washed away by the water. I looked around. There was neither his dad nor the two pairs of married couples in sight. I then dropped my fishing line and rowed as quickly as I could to the kid. I quickly got the kid to calm down and pulled him onto the shore.
I was worried about how cold he was so I called first-aid medical services. At this time, his father appeared. I stayed long enough to watch the father reunite with his son.
Officers interviewed the child’s father and learned they were sailing on the river when the boy wanted to swim next to the boat, holding an attached (依附的) rope. The boy lost hold of the rope, and the wind pushed the sailboat away from the boy.
    4. What was the boy doing when the wind was becoming stronger?
    A. Pulling the anchor. B. Doing some fishing.
    C. Playing on the bank. D. Swimming in the river.
    5. Why did the writer drop his fishing line?
    A. To run away quickly. B. To save the kid.
    C. To catch the big fish. D. To see the child’s father.
    6. Which word can best describe the writer?
    A. Humorous. B. Careless. C. Warm-hearted. D. Impatient.
    7. What can be known about the kid at last?
    A. He was washed away by water. B. He was saved by the writer.
    C. He was punished by his father. D. He was taken away by the officers.

English is full of funny expressions that don’t always make sense. Idioms are phrases and sentences that do not mean exactly what they say. Even if you know the meaning of each word, you may not understand the idiom because you don’t understand the culture behind it. Here are some English idioms based on animals.
When children jump around and act silly, their parents may tell them to stop “monkeying around”. To “monkey around” means to do things that are not useful or serious, or to simply waste time.
Many American families have and love pet dogs. But for some unknown reason, Americans use “dog” in a phrase that means to feel unwell. If you are “as sick as a dog”, you’re really, really sick.
Sometimes you may also hear cats mentioned in conversations, “I told you to keep that secret, but you have just ‘let the cat out of the bag’!” You probably guessed it—that idiom means to reveal a secret or tell facts that were previously unknown.
Dogs and cats don’t always get along, but they appear side by side in a commonly used idiom. When it rains heavily, people might say it’s “raining cats and dogs”.
Heavy rain often ruins people’s plans for outdoor activities. But on a lovely day, you can have a picnic. If a swarm (一群) of tiny bugs love your food and start to hover (盘旋) around you, it would be really annoying. That experience perfectly explains why people often tell someone who keeps bothering them to “stop bugging me”.
Idioms are very common in both spoken and written English. If you want to have a better understanding of English, you have to learn idioms.
    8. According to Paragraph 1, idioms are _______.
    A. expressions which are based on animals
    B. expressions with rich cultural background
    C. expressions that always make sense
    D. expressions which are easy to understand
    9. “Monkeying around” can be used to describe children _______.
    A. jumping around and wasting time
    B. doing something useful and serious
    C. playing with monkeys with their parents
    D. spending time playing with their family pets
    10. What can be learned from the text?
    A. Dogs and cats always get along nicely.
    B. Bugs can be used to show your annoyance.
    C. Americans believe cats can give away secrets.
    D. Americans use the idiom “as sick as a dog” to describe a healthy man.
11 How does the text mainly develop?
    A. By sharing experiences. B. By making comparisons.
    C. By giving examples. D. By listing figures.
B 9. A 10. B 11. C

That experience perfectly explains why people often tell someone who keeps bothering them to ‘stop bugging me’.(如果一群小虫子喜欢你的食物,在你身边盘旋,那会很烦人。
    D
Chat GPT is a new AI system that works so human-like in conversations that it could host its own radio programs. Reading between its instantly created, perfectly grammatical lines, people see different visions of the future. Without doubt, Chat GPT is impressive.
Some compare the emergence (出现) of Chat GPT to the impact of the iPhone, but that doesn’t do it fair. Chat GPT, as well as the creative AI that will follow and outsmart it, is disruptive. And yet, that doesn’t necessarily mean the end of the world is upon us. On the contrary, Chat GPT, I would argue, might serve to make us more aware of our irreplaceable human qualities.
Take the creative act, writing in particular, as an example. If you want it to, the Al-powered chatbot (聊天机器人) always produces something because it has the whole world of online data to draw from. But unlike us, it lacks the consciousness. Thinking is hard, critical (批判性的) thinking even harder, and Chat GPT isn’t good at either. It just restates what has already been said; it is one big recycling machine.
There is another obvious limitation of Chat GPT. Philosopher Harry Frankfurt once claimed: the difference between a bullshitter (胡说八道的人) and a liar is that the liar knows what the truth is but decides to take the opposite direction; a bullshitter, however, has no idea for the truth at all. Chat GPT will reproduce misinformation from any of its input sources—it is not an intelligent system that tries to balance or weigh different ideas. In this sense, everything that Chat GPT writes is bullshit.
This is why the so-called AIQ is critical. It is actually an extension and a measurement of our human IQ: our overall knowledge of AI tools, our mastery of information, and our ethical awareness- Chat GPT is going to change everything —and nothing. Creativity, imagination and ethics —these will all remain unique human range. It is the AI’s very limitations that will make us appreciate our own.
    12. What can we learn about Chat GPT from the text?
    A. It is a liar.
    B. It can decide what to read.
    C. It helps produce a man-made voice.
    D. It produces immediate language responses.
    13. What does the underlined word “disruptive” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
    A. Costly. B. Useful. C. Ruinous. D. Reliable.
    14. Why does the author consider Chat GPT as a bullshit creator?
    A. It makes up lies constantly. B. It can’t tell right from wrong.
    C. It often makes deep judgement. D. It always stands on a fair side.
    15. What’s the text mainly about?
    A. Chat GPT is causing panic now.
    B. Chat GPT is probable to produce bullshit.
    C. Chat GPT should be treated like a toy, not a tool.
    D. Chat GPT makes us realize the unique human features.
D 13. C 14. B 15. D
根据第一段“Chat GPT is a new AI system that sounds so human in conversations that it could host its own radio programs. Reading between its instantly created, perfectly grammatical lines, people see different visions of the future.
根据第二段划线单词的后一句“And yet, that doesn’t necessarily mean the end of the world is upon us.”(然而,这并不一定意味着世界末日即将来临。)
根据第三段“But unlike us, it lacks the consciousness. Thinking is hard, critical (批判性的)thinking even harder, and Chat GPT isn’t good at either.”(但与我们不同的是,它缺乏意识。 及第四段“Chat GPT will reproduce misinformation from any of its input sources — it is not an intelligent system that tries to balance or weigh different perspectives. In this sense, everything that Chat GPT writes is bullshit.”(Chat GPT将从其任何输入源复制错误信息——它不是一个试图平衡或权衡不同观点的智能系统。
根据第二段“On the contrary, Chat GPT, I would argue, might serve to make us more aware of our irreplaceable human qualities.”(相反,我认为,Chat GPT可能会让我们更加意识到我们不可替代的人类品质。)及最后一段“Creativity, imagination and ethics — these will all remain unique human range. It is the AI’s very limitations that will make us appreciate our own.”(创造力、想象力和伦理这些都将保持人类独有的范围。

as a result为固定短语,意为“结果”,故填a。
此处为not only...but (also)“不但……
“想要做某事”表达为want to do…,故want后跟动词不定式作宾语,故填to protect。

Learning that you are interested in the Spring Festival, it’s my honour to tell you something about it.
The Spring Festival falls on the first day of the Lunar New Year. It’s traditionally regarded as an occasion for family reunion. People gather together to enjoy a big dinner with joy on its eve. What’s more, you can see many decorations such as lanterns and paper cuttings during this festival. As a matter of fact, I really want to invite you to spend the next Spring Festival with me, which is a good opportunity for you to experience Chinese culture.
    Looking forward to your reply.
    Yours,
    Li Hua
被视作:be regarded as→ be considered as
    此外:what’s more→ besides/in addition
    事实上:as a matter of fact→ in fact/actually
    机会:opportunity→ chance
The Spring Festival falls on the first day of the Lunar New Year. It’s traditionally regarded as an occasion for family reunion.
The Spring Festival, which is traditionally regarded as an occasion for family reunion, falls on the first day of the Lunar New Year.
1】Learning that you are interested in the Spring Festival, it’s my honour to tell you something about it.(运用了that引导的宾语从句)
2】As a matter of fact, I really want to invite you to spend the next Spring Festival with me, which is a good opportunity for you to experience Chinese culture.(运用了which引导的非限制性定语从句)
Jackson sat at his school desk and looked over at the new kid in class. His name was Billy and he just moved here from Florida. His first day in class was yesterday and, so far, Jackson had not talked to him. Today, during the break, Jackson was going to try to make a new friend.
When the bell rang, Jackson hurried out of his seat and followed Billy outside.
“Hi Billy,” Jackson said as they walked outside. “Do you want to play basketball?”
“No. I’m not very good at basketball.”
“Do you want to play kickball?” Jackson asked.
“No. I’m not good at that either,” Billy said. Billy walked away from Jackson and sat on a big flat rock in the grassy part of the school yard.
Jackson stood there and wondered what to do next. He asked Billy to do two things and both times Billy had said no. Maybe he didn’t like Jackson. Maybe he didn’t want to be friends. Jackson thought about playing basketball with the other kids. He looked over at Billy sitting on the rock all by himself. It must be hard to move to a new school, Jackson thought.
    注意:
    1.续写词数应为150左右;
    2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
He decided to give it one more try.
    _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
“Thanks for asking me to play with you,” Billy said. “I have a hard time making friends.”
    _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
He decided to give it one more try. “Do you like cars?” Jackson asked Billy as he walked up to him. “Sure!” Billy said with a smile. Jackson reached into his pocket and pulled out two cars. “My brother gave me these. He has tons of cars and always gives me his old ones.” He handed one of the cars to Billy. “Awesome! I love Mustangs!” Billy rolled the car over the rock. “Me too!” Jackson said. “It’s my favorite car!” Jackson sat on the ground and rolled his car across the rock. “My Dad has a real Mustang! You should come over to my house and see it!” “That would be awesome!” Jackson said. “I’d love to!”
“Thanks for asking me to play with you,” Billy said. “I have a hard time making friends.” Seeing his shy but happy smile, Jackson felt happy too. “Well, you made one today,” Jackson said as he pushed the car over the edge of the rock and down into the grass. He was so happy that he decided to try one more time with Billy. He could already tell they were going to be best friends.
    ①走向:walk up to/move towards/head for
    ②看见:see/notice/spot
③决定做某事:decide to do/be determined to do/make up one’s mind to do
    ①很棒:awesome/great
    ②开心的:happy/delighted
【点睛】[高分句型1]Seeing his shy but happy smile, Jackson felt happy too.
[高分句型2]He was so happy that he decided to try one more time with Billy. (运用了so...that...
