Researchers in the 1960s found bilingual (双语的) people scored higher on IQ tests than monolingual people who speak only one language. The latest studies show that being bilingual does not necessarily make people cleverer but it probably does make you better at certain abilities.
Imagine driving down the highway. There are many things that could attract your attention and you really need to be able to watch all of them. Why would bilingualism make you better than that?
The answer is that bilingual people are often better at controlling their attention—a function called the executive control system (执行控制系统). It’s quite possibly the most important system you have because it’s where all of your decisions about what to focus on, what to pay to attention to, what to ignore, what to process are made.
The best method to measure (测量) the executive control system is called the Stroop Test. Suppose you would have the word “blue” written in red, but you have to say the color red. But “blue” is so eye-catching, and you really want to say “blue”. You need to ignore it so that you can say the colour red. That’s the Stroop Test.
Bilingual people continually practice this function. They have to, because both languages are active in their brain at the same time. They need to ignore one to be able to speak in the other. This exercise might help in other ways, too. Researchers say bilingual children are more likely to have friends from different cultures. Bilingual adults are often four to five years later than others in developing Alzheimers disease.
19.According to recent research, in what way are bilingual people better than monolingual people?
    A.IQ. B.Driving skill. C.Controlling attention.
20.Why is executive control system important?
A.It helps to decide what to do. B.It helps pick out colors easily. C.It helps get high score in tests.
21.How are people tested when they take the Stroop Test?
A.They need to color the word red.
B.They are asked to write “blue” in red.
C.They have to say what color is the word.
22.What might the underlined word “ignore” mean?
A.show much interest in. B.pay no attention to. C.make full use of.
23.What can we infer about bilingual people?
A.They are rather popular with their friends.
B.They have a strong body and a strong mind.
C.They can take more notice of important things.

    四、阅读还原6选5
With all kinds of festivals on their way, “gift” is always everyone’s favorite topic to think about! 24 Coming from the US, I have found gift-giving to be quite different in China compared to my home country.
25 In the US, the people who give the gift (let’s call them the “gifter”) will often want to see the people who get the gift (let’s call them the “giftee”) open the present at once. They want to see their reaction of excitement and joy. In China, however, it’s more polite to thank the gifter when they receive the gift. 26
Another thing I found different was the openness and directness of giving money. Although people in the US might give money to their children, it is usually done very secretly with the money put in a card. 27 In China, the practice is much more open in a flashy (显眼的) red envelope.
Finally, the value of the gift can play a big role in China in ways that are different from the US. 28 But in China, it can make the giftee feel embarrassed due to a sense of having to return the favor (恩惠) in the future to the gifter.
So, the next time you give a gift to somebody, remember that culture and meaning are part of every action we take.
A.And it is never discussed out loud.
B.Gift-giving is different all over the world.
C.One example is the time when people open a gift.
D.But they don’t open the gift until they get back home.
E.An expensive gift in the US is usually greeted with great excitement.
F.More specifically, it is the giving of gifts and the culture about them.

    五、阅读填表
    阅读短文,完成表格。
Queuing(排队)to go on a theme park ride, queuing at the checkout in the supermarket… Nobody likes queuing. Except for, perhaps, the British.
Like it or not, queuing is helpful to keep order and stop people from getting angry at each other. In fact, the act seems to have come from the British people. Queuing has a surprisingly long history in the UK. According to the website Culture Trip, the start of queuing goes back to the early 19th century at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution(工业革命)in England. Why? As cities were getting bigger and more crowded, queues naturally started to happen for everyday things like posting letters at the post office or buying things in local shops.
But how the British were called “civilized(文明的)queuers” dates back to World War Ⅱ, says Culture Trip. It was more important to keep order during difficult times so people were encouraged to “do their duty and wait their turn”.
As a Briton myself, I have to say this is true of the British people. Really, we have a great deal of respect for queuing. We like things to be orderly and we believe in showing politeness and waiting your turn. If you don’t do this, you’ll get shouted at! It’s in all manner of everyday activities. Just as the old British saying goes, “keep calm and carry on.”

A group of children are chasing butterflies in their own world. They are known as “children of the stars”, who are like the stars in the sky, feeling lonely. Actually they are autistic(自闭症的) children. According to the data, there are over 2 million autistic children in China. But it still doesn’t cause people’s attention. We should raise a greater public awareness to help autistic children fly off the “lonely planet”.
Autistic children have difficulties communicating with other people, but music—as a kind of artistic language—can open their hearts. By combining(结合) music with mobile technology, three university students have spent five months developing an app called Starrypia to help them.
Starrypia is a musical game app. Autistic children use the app to scan things around them and they get parts of music as well as cartoon images. Then they organize the clips in their own way to create songs, which would be recorded in their music diary.

This is actually a kind of music therapy (疗法). Traditional music therapy is usually taken in hospitals. Autistic children sit in front of computers learning some music courses. But Starrypia makes the process more like a game. Besides, it can be used anytime and anywhere, making the therapy lighter and easier.
By using Starrypia, autistic children can better express themselves. The process also trains their abilities of attention. With AR interaction, the app encourages children to scan and identify dolls, animals and plants. They even designed different levels, guiding users from things around them to nature. When the app was tested on autistic children, they got good responses on the children’s faces.
Thank the three university students for their efforts. And we hope to bring more social support for autistic children.

58.句意:在五年级和六年级之间,是什么造成了差异?根据“Between the fifth grade and sixth grade, what made the…? It was that someone was willing to give me a chance with higher expectations. It was trust!”可知应是说是什么造成了不同,结合备选词可知,要用different“不同的”的名词difference,故填difference。

    60.范文:
Recently, my life has been different since the “double reduction” policy was carried out. Thanks to the policy, we have less homework than before. And we are required to finish it all at school, which means there are no more school assignments at home. The most exciting thing is that I don’t need to take off-campus tutoring classes anymore. So I can have enough sleep every day. And I can spend more time on physical exercise. I think it’s better for our health. Even though parents are worrying about our grades, we students seem to be happy. Our school offers many after-school activities. I have joined some sports clubs. I love to play basketball and football with my friends. I used to do my homework after dinner until 10:00 pm.
Can you imagine that now I get free time to read novels at night? I love “double reduction” policy.
