Section A(1a-2d) 第1课时
设计说明
本课时学习有关对音乐和电影喜好的对话。教学时从听不同类型的音乐导入课堂, 通过What kind of music do you like?这一问句的答语引入对定语从句的教学, 接着通过1a和1c来练习定语从句。然后进入听力活动1b、2a和2b。通过填表、判断正误、完成句子、回答问题等活动, 使学生理解对话内容, 并通过找定语从句使学生进一步理解定语从句。最后, 通过讨论周末的活动引入对2d的学习, 要求学生理解对话, 回答问题。通过2d进一步学习与巩固定语从句的有关内容。
教学目标
通过本课时的学习, 让学生达成以下目标:
1. 知识目标
(1) 掌握本课时新单词及短语: prefer, lyrics, Australian, electronic, suppose, smooth, spare, director, case, war, in that case。
(2) 掌握重点句子: ①Carmen likes musicians who play different kinds of music.
②Xu Fei prefers groups that play quiet and slow songs.
2. 能力目标
(1) 能听懂关于音乐的语言材料。
(2) 能运用所学知识谈论对音乐、电影等的喜好。
(3) 能就音乐、电影等的喜好与他人进行交流。

Step 1 Lead-in
1. Play a piece of pop music for the class and say:
This is a piece of pop music. I like pop music. The music has great lyrics.
(Write“I like pop music. The music has great lyrics.” on the blackboard.)
Ask: Do you like pop music? What kind of music do you like?
2. Have a conversation about the favorite music with the class like this:
—What kind music do you like?
—I like… The music has great lyrics/…
—Yes.
Step 2 Presentation
1. Change the sentence “I like pop music. The music has great lyrics.” into the following sentence with“that”.
I like pop music that has great lyrics.
2. Listen, ask and present.
Play the folk music, rock music and dance music for the class, and teach the relative clause with “that” like this:
(1) Play the folk music.
T: What kind of music do you like?
S: I love the folk music. I can sing along with the music.
(Teach: I like the folk music that I can sing along with.)
(2) Play the rock music.
T: What kind of music do you like?
S: I prefer the rock music. The music is loud.
(Teach: I prefer the rock music that is loud.)
(3) Play the dance music.
T: What kind of music do you like?
S: I prefer the dance music. I can dance to the music.
(Teach: I prefer the dance music that I can dance to.)
Step 3 Work on 1a
1. Get the class to look at the picture and read the sentences in the picture in class, make sure they understand them.
2. Get the class to circle the sentences they agree with. Then write down their own sentences.
Step 4 Work on 1c
Get the class to make conversations about the music that they like.
A: What kind of music do you like?
B: I like music that I can sing along with. What about you?
A: I prefer music that has great lyrics.
Then check them.
Step 5 Listening
1. Get the class to look through the table in 1b on page 65. Make sure the class understand it. Get the class to think about what the conversation is about.
2. Play the tape. Get the class to listen and check (√) the kinds of music Tony and Betty like. And check them.

3. Listen again and underline the key sentences.
Step 6 Presentation
Introduce Australian singer Dan Dervish using the picture.
And teach the new word “Australian”.
Step 7 Listen and check
1. Get the students to listen to the conversation in 2a and circle T for true or F for false.

Step 9 Discussion
Discuss the following questions with the class.
1. What do you usually do on weekends?

3. Why do you like this kind of music/movies?

1. Get the students to read the conversation and answer the questions.

Step 11 Language points
1. I prefer music that has great lyrics. 我更喜欢有好歌词的音乐。
prefer (preferred, preferred, preferring) 动词,意为“更喜欢”, 相当于like…better。主要用法如下:
(1) prefer doing/to do sth. 更喜欢做某事
I prefer walking alone. 我更喜欢一个人散步。
He preferred to be a policeman when he was young.
他小时候更喜欢当警察。
(2) prefer sb. to do sth. 宁愿/更喜欢某人做某事
He prefers you to attend the parents’ meeting.
他更喜欢你参加家长会。
(3) prefer (doing) A to (doing) B 与(做)B相比更喜欢(做)A
I prefer reading books to watching TV. 与看电视相比我更喜欢读书。
(4) prefer to do sth. rather than do sth. 宁愿做某事而不愿做某事
I prefer to read books rather than watch TV . 我宁愿读书也不愿看电视。
2. I suppose I’ll just listen to this new CD I bought. 我想我就是听听我买的这张新唱片吧。
suppose及物动词, 意为“推断; 料想”, 后常接宾语从句。
“I/We suppose + (that)从句”意为“我/我们认为……”, 在该结构中, 若宾语从句为否定意义, 则应否定主句, 而宾语从句仍用肯定形式, 即“I/We don’t suppose +(that) 从句(肯定形式) ”;若将该结构改为反意疑问句, 则附加问句的主语和谓语应与从句的主语和谓语保持一致。
I suppose he’ll come here on time. 我认为他会按时来的。
I don’t suppose he’ll come here on time. 我认为他不会按时来。
I suppose he’ll come here on time, won’t he?
我认为他会按时来, 不是吗?
3. Well, if you have spare time, do you want to watch a movie with me? 嗯,如果你有空, 你想和我一起去看电影吗?
spare 此处用作形容词, 意为“空闲的; 不用的”, 相当于free。
in one’s spare/free time 意为“在某人的空闲时间里”。
I love reading newspapers in my spare/free time.
我喜欢在空闲时间里看报纸。
【拓展】spare还可用作及物动词, 意为“抽出(时间等) , 空出(房间等) ”。spare sb. sth. =spare sth. for sb. 为某人腾出某物。
Can you spare him half an hour? 你能为他挤出半个小时的时间吗?
4. Hmm, depends which movie. 嗯, 那要看是哪部电影了。
(1) 本句省略了depends 前的主语 it 和 which movie 后的定语从句部分 we’ll watch, 这是典型的口语表达形式。其完整形式应为: It depends which movie we’ll watch.
(2) It depends (on) who/what/how/whether…是一个常见句型, 意为“那取决于……”。当depend后接短语或从句时, 口语中常会省略depend后的介词on。
It depends what day you catch me, and at what time of day.
这取决于你哪天见我, 以及见我的时间。
(3) depend on此处意为“取决于, 视……而定”, 后可接名词、代词、v. -ing形式或宾语从句。
It depends on the weather. 这取决于天气。
Choosing the right bike depends on what you want to use it for. 根据你的用途来挑选合适的自行车。
【拓展】depend on还表示“依靠, 依赖”。
Don’t always depend on your parents.
不要总是依靠你的父母。
5. Oh, in that case, I’ll ask someone who likes serious movies. 噢, 既然那样, 我还是去邀请喜欢看严肃的电影的人吧。
in that case 意为“既然那样;假使那样的话”。
—He didn’t want to talk to Sally. 他不想和萨利说话。
—In that case, why did he agree to meet her?
既然那样, 他为什么还同意和她见面?
