M:On the first day,I went to a restaurant for lunch with my American friend Tom.At the end of the meal,he took out his wallet to pay,but he only gave half of the money.
W:Why did Tom do like this?
M:In America,when people go out for lunch or dinner,they usually pay for their own meal.But in China,of course,the host will pay for everyone.
W:Do we need to bring some gifts to be a guest in American’s home?
M:No,it’s not necessary.But something small like flowers,or a box of chocolates,is always appreciated.And most people open gift as soon as they receive them.
W:Do you find any other different things in America?
M:Well,in America,drivers always stop at the red lights and follow all the traffic rules.So people feel safe when they cross the road.

Several years ago,a plane crashed in the mountains and killed its pilot.Unbelievably,the plane’s only passengers,a young woman and her two baby daughters were unhurt.It was the middle of winter,and the ground was covered in thick snow.The woman knew the nearest village was miles away,so there would be no rescue until the next morning.When it grew dark,she turned the suitcase into a bag,put the children inside,covering them with all the clothes she could find to keep them warm.
During the night,it got terribly cold.The woman kept as near as she could to the children and even tried to get into the suitcase herself.But it was too small.Early next morning,she heard planes passing over her head and wondered how she could send the signal.Then she had an idea,using her feet,she stamped out the letters “SOS” in the snow.Thankfully,a pilot saw the signal and sent the message by the radio to the nearest town.Soon after a helicopter arrived on the scene to rescue the mother and her children.
