①Pandas not only are a national treasure, but also have played an important role in China's diplomacy (外交). The practice of "panda diplomacy" dates back to Tang Dynasty, when Empress Wu Zetian sent a pair of pandas to Japanese king to express China's friendship with Japan.

People already knew that pigs could learn to "sit" and "come" as we order. Nowadays, research shows pigs may be much cleverer than we thought. They may be able to play video games.

Researchers at Purdue University in the USA did the research on pig's game skills. The researchers were surprised that their test pigs were able to play some games. Researchers got four pigs, named Ebony, Hamlet, Ivory and Omelet, to play a simple game at different levels. They had to move a joystick (操纵杆) with their noses to make a cursor (光标) move to a colored wall on the screen. If they were successful, they got a tasty treat.

Lead author Dr. Candace Croney said, "It's very clear they understood what they were being asked to do." The research is in a paper reported in the magazine Frontiers in Psychology.

The research covered a large area. The pigs spent many days playing the game. During the last 50 rounds, the pigs played the game at three different levels.
