A new mobile app called Farm Assistant, developed by Wu Zeyin, makes farm work easier in Botswana.

Wu, an 11-year-old student from Hubei, moved to Botswana with his family seven years ago.

In Botswana, the desert climate is very common in most parts. “During the past years living in the country, I found there weren’t many kinds of fruits and vegetables sold at local supermarkets, and quality was poor,” he said. The low yield (产量) of common crops (庄稼) has much to do with the climate. For a long time, Botswana had to import many fruits and vegetables from neighboring countries to meet the needs of its people.

In July last year, there was a pilot project to grow China’s water-saving and drought-tolerant (耐旱的) rice in Gaborone, the capital of Botswana, which brought Wu some new ideas. When he got the news, he decided to develop an app for the local farmers. The app supports several crops commonly grown locally, including tomatoes, potatoes, onions, corn, carrots, and cabbage. Farmers who use the app can click on the crop picture to see its watering needs, seed (种子) price, selling price and yield. After planting the seeds, farmers click the timer to start, and the app reminds them what to do at each stage.

Wu said there is an old saying in China: “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”

39________ makes it difficult to grow common crops.

AThe desert climate BThe poor seed quality

CThe farmer’s laziness DThe shortage of sunshine

40What can we learn about this app?

AFarmers can buy fruits from it. BIt was developed seven years ago.

CIt supports several crops except corn. DFarmers can see the yield of the plants.

41What does the underlined word “import” mean?

    A.制造 B.进口 C.清洗 D.分类

42What can we infer (推断) from Wu Zeyin’s words “teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”?

AHe’ll teach farmers how to fish. BIt’s more important to learn methods.

CHe’ll develop a new app about fishing. DThe saying brings Wu new ideas about fishing.

A video posted by Li Ying, a student from Zhejiang Normal University who learned oracle-bone inscriptions (甲骨文) at college, has become very popular recently as she roasted (吐槽) how unpopular her subject is.

Li first became interested in it while studying in university. However, after graduating, Li discovered that her chosen field of study was becoming increasingly unknown, with only one elderly teacher specialized in it.

Even so, Li remains her love of these characters, and has taken social media to share her love with the world. She has posted a lot of videos explaining the history and uses of them, drawing thousands of viewers’ attention. Her videos are both educational and relaxing, making the subject interesting to others.

However, Li’s love for her subject has come at a cost. She describes the life of a researcher like this: long hours spent in small offices crowded with mountains of books.

Li’s videos are widely praised on social media. “We need more people to know the history of these ancient characters and our Chinese culture. I want to use this method to pass on the ancient culture to future generations ().” Li says.

47What does “it” refer to (代指) in Paragraph 2?

ALi’s subject. BThe university. CThe video. DThe office.

48What did Li do on social media?

Cis close to modern life Dshould be roasted

Are field trips worth all the time and effort needed to make them successful? Most teachers have asked themselves this question when they prepare for a field trip. The truth is that field trips can cause quite a few headaches for teachers. At the same time, well-planned field trips can provide students with truly educational experiences they cannot get in the classroom. Following is a look at the advantages and disadvantages of field trips.

Field trips provide students with new chances for learning through experiences. First of all, information is presented to students by different methods. Field trips provide students with the ability to learn by doing instead of just listening to the information being taught in class. Students can have new experiences that, hopefully, open their eyes. Also, students and teachers can see each other in a different light, helping to increase communication between them. Some students who might be forgotten in class because they are quiet might really come alive on field trips.

However, teachers face a number of difficulties when planning a field trip. Field trips need preparation if teachers want to make them meaningful. They have to carefully choose places for travelling. They also need to create an effective lesson plan that they will follow when on the outing. Besides, field trips can be expensive, and some students may not have the money to attend. Organizers of the field trip may consider asking for parents to add a few dollars to help students in need.

So next time when you plan a field trip, you can follow these instructions…

50The writer introduces the topic in the beginning by ________.

Aasking a question Btelling a story Cdescribing a picture Dlisting a few numbers

51Paragraph 2 mainly talks about the ________ of field trips.

    Aorganizers Badvantages Cdifficulties Dchances

52What will the writer talk about in the last paragraph?

APlaces for traveling. BExperiences of students.

CLessons plans for teachers. DInstructions of planning a field trip.

Long long ago, there lived a young man, called Li Sheng, who had just married a beauty. However, his wife always did whatever she wanted without caring about others’ feelings. One day, she wanted to look pretty with a coat of fox fur(皮毛). So she asked her husband to get her one. But the coat was rare (罕见的)and too expensive. The helpless husband had to walk around on the hillside. Just at the moment, a fox was walking by. He lost no time to catch it by the tail. “Well, dear fox, let’s make an agreement. Could you offer me a small piece of your skin? That isn’t a big deal, is it?”

The fox was amazed at his words, but she replied, “Well, my dear, that’s easy. But let my tail go so that I can pull off the fur for you.” The man was quite satisfied, so he let her free and waited for the fur. Ladies and gentlemen,

I am Li Hui. It’s my honour to stand here sharing my speech. My topic today is the spirits of teamwork.

Teamwork is very important in our study and work. Sometimes, in our work or learning tasks, one person cannot independently complete the tasks. They need others’ help. They have the same goal and work hard together, then they will finish the tasks successfully. For example, when we’re having a basketball game, depending on one player is not enough to win. Only when all players work together can they win the game. Teamwork not only improves friendship among teammates, but also improves the understanding and trust between them. Therefore, teamwork is a key to success.
