I have for as long as I can remember. I was crazy about books, sometimes reading up to three books a day as a child. Stories were like air to me and while other kids played balls or went to parties, I lived out adventures through the books I checked out from the library. My first job was working at the Ukiah Library when I was 16 years old. It was a dream job and I did everything from shelving books to reading to the children for story time.As I grew older and became a mother, the library took on a new place and an added meaning in my life. I had several children and books were our main source of entertainment. It was a big deal for us to go to the local library, where my kids could pick out books to read or books they wanted me to read to them.I always read, using different voices, as though I were acting out the stories with my voice and they loved it! It was a special time to develop a relationship with my children and it filled them with the wonderment of books. Now, I see my children taking their children to the library and I love that the excitement of going to the library lives on from generation to generation. As a writer, I’ve found a new relationship with libraries. I encourage readers to go to their local library when they can’t buy a book. I see libraries as a safe haven (港湾)for readers and writers, a bridge that helps put together a reader with a book. Libraries, in their own way, help fight book piracy(图书盗版) and I think all writers should support libraries when they can. Encourage readers to use the library. Share library announcements on your social media. Often visit them and talk about them when you can.24. Which word best describes the writer’s relationship with books as a child?A. Friendly. B. Uneasy. C. Close. D. Healthy.25. What does the underlined phrase “an added meaning” in Paragraph 3 refer to?A. Pleasure from working in the library. B. Joy of reading passed on in the family.C. Wonderment from acting out the stories. D. A closer relationship developed with the readers.26. What does the author call on other writers to do?A. Hold book shows. B. Write for social media.C. Support libraries. D. Buy her novels.27. Which can be a suitable title for the text?A. Reading: A Source of Knowledge B. My Idea About WritingC. Library: A Heaven for the Young D. My Love of the LibraryCImagine you are on a cold mountain with steep rocks around. As you climb higher, the air gets thinner and the sun’s rays stronger. Just before you reach the snowline, you find what you came for—a small white flower, the edelweiss(雪绒花), which only grows in alpine(高山的) areas.Plants face many challenges living in alpine areas, and only 200 kinds of plants can grow there. Plants rely on oxygen, water, and sunlight to make their own food through the process of photosynthesis(光合作用). The alpine means less CO2, which makes the process more difficult. It also brings plants closer to the sun. The sunlight is so strong that it can burn a plant’s leaves. There is little water here, so the soil is dry and rocky. You also won’t find high trees because the cold wind would blow them over!Alpine plants have advantages that help them survive the bad conditions. Like all alpine plants, the edelweiss stays close to the ground to avoid the wind. The cold water is deep underground, so the edelweiss grows very deep roots. Its leaves have a thick (厚的)covering, which protects the plant from the wind and the sun’s bright rays. All these special characteristics help it grow, but very slowly. The edelweiss can live in the conditions, but humans can’t. Climbing in the high and cold mountains is dangerous and difficult. This is why the edelweiss became such a special flower. Long ago, a young man would pick an edelweiss flower to prove his love to a girl, although it was risky. Many men died while trying. Getting the flower proved that the man was physically strong, brave, and devoted.Alpine plants can’t spread seeds, so it’s difficult for new plants to grow. Once all the edelweiss flowers are gone in an area, they will not regenerate. Governments help protect the edelweiss because it is considered an endangered plant.28.The first two paragraphs mainly describe ________ .A.the process of photosynthesis B.the appearance of the edelweissC.the growing environment of the edelweiss D.the challenge of mountain climbing29.The edelweiss can survive in the alpine conditions partly because ________.A.it grows high and strong B.it can get more sunlightC.its leaves’ covering is thin D.its deep roots can get water30.What can we learn about the edelweiss from the text?A.It is planted in large quantities. B.It is a symbol of bravery.C.It is a shade-loving plant. D.It spreads its seeds by wind.31.What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?A.To introduce a special flower. B.To compare different alpine plants.C.To warn people not to pick flowers. D.To encourage people to confess love. DOn the “healthy“ section of any breakfast menu, you're bound to spot an egg white omelet(煎蛋卷). With no fat and just a quarter of the calories in a whole egg, the whites look like the best choice at first glance. Not so fast, though new research shows a good reason why you might want to keep the yolk (蛋黄)in if you want to get fit. Plus, forget the bad impression that the cholesterol(胆固醇)in yolks has gotten in the past. The USDA removed limits on dietary cholesterol in its most recent dietary guidelines. It's all because evidence doesn't back up claims that the cholesterol you eat has much influence on blood cholesterol levels. In a recent study, researchers had ten young men eat either whole eggs or egg whites after completing a strength-training workout. Both egg choices contained 18 grams of protein, and the eggs were developed with chemical markers. Thanks to them, the researchers tracked how the men's bodies used amino acids(氨基酸)from the eggs and egg whites, and found some surprising results. About 65 to 70 percent of amino acids were available in the blood for both the whole egg and egg white groups suggesting they'd be equally useful in building muscles. But the rest of the results didn't back up that conclusion. When the researchers looked specifically at how much protein synthesis-the process that helps muscles repair and grow一occurred, one form of egg clearly did better than the other. "Having whole eggs immediately after exercise resulted in greater protein synthesis than just having egg whites,” says lead study author Nicholas Burd in a statement.Although this study was too small to be conclusive, its conclusion backs up whole egg benefits that nutritionists have been praising for years. From their point of view egg whites are high-protein, low-calorie, but the yolk contains nearly all of an egg's vitamins. And one study found that adults who eat whole eggs in the morning lose more weight and body fat than those who get the same number of calories from a bread-based breakfast. While no large studies have looked into the weight-loss benefits of whole eggs vs egg whites, there's also no evidence that the 140 calories in two whole large eggs should scare you away. Crack on, egg lovers. 32. What's implied in paragraph 1?A. The whites can help people have a good shape.B. The yolk's function is different from the whites.C. People tend to consider the yolk to be unhealthy.D. The yolk has much to do with blood cholesterol levels.33.Why were the eggs developed with chemical markers?A. To help process the proteins better.B. To make them healthier for people.C. To track the amino acids during digestion.D. To help the body consume amino acids.34.The findings of the recent study mainly show that.A. amino acids are easy to get in eggsB. eating the whole egg helps build musclesC. the yolk of the egg is better than the whiteD. eggs can produce more proteins than any other kinds of food 35. What would be the best title for the text?A. Egg Whites VS Whole EggsB. Egg White Omelets or Just the YolkC. The Correct Way to Build MusclesD. Unknown Facts about Egg White Omelets 第二节(共5小题;每小题2. 5分,满分12. 5分)阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。Reducing Test AnxietyTest anxiety arises when a student excessively worries about doing badly in a test.
