Many people go to school for education. School education is very important and useful, 36 no one can learn everything from school. A teacher, no matter how 37 he knows, cannot teach his students everything. His work is to show his students how to learn. He teaches them how to read and how to think. So much more is to be learned outside school by the 38 themselves.
It is always 39 important to know how to study by oneself than to learn some facts or formulas (公式) by heart. It is quite easy to learn some facts in history or a formula in math, but using a formula is not the 40 as learning it by heart.
Some great scientists, such as Newton, Edison and Einstein had something 41 common. They didn’t 42 a good job at school at the beginning, but they were all 43 later in their lives. 44 of the reasons for their success was that they knew how to study. They read many books outside school. They worked hard all the time. As 45 as you keep thinking, you can be a good learner and later you will have success too.

It was really wonderful news that the policy of “double-lightening the burden”(双减政策) came out in 2021. In the past, Chinese children were busier on weekends than weekdays because of many after-school classes. Many of them learned exam skills so that they could get into a good high school and later a good university. Others practiced sports so that they could win.
However, this didn’t only happen in China. The Bairds were a typical(典型的)American family. Life for Cathy Baird’s three children was very busy. “On most days after school,” Cathy said, “I take one of my two boys to basketball practice and my daughter to football training. Then I have to take my other son to piano lessons. Maybe I could cut out a few of their activities, but I believe these activities are important for my children’s future. I really want them to be successful. However, the tired children get home after 7: 00 p. m. They have a quick dinner, and then it’s time for homework”.
Linda Miller, a mother of two, knew all about such stress(压力). She said. “Mothers send their small kids to all kinds of classes. And they are always comparing them with other children. It’s crazy. I don’t think that’s fair. Why don’t they just let their kids be kids?”
Parents shouldn’t push their kids so hard. Doctors said too much stress was not good for a child’s development. Dr. Alice Green said, “Kids should have time to relax and think for themselves”.
46.Why were Chinese children busier on weekends than weekdays?
____________________________________________________________________________________________
47.Which country did Cathy Baird come from?
