(2022春·广东·八年级统考期末)Do you remember the elephant “tour group” in Yunnan? Where are they now? They are back at their home!
In March, 2020, a family of 15 wild Asian elephants left their habitat in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan Province. Since then, they had kept going north, through mountains, forests, rivers and even city streets. Along their journey, they ran into villages and ate farmers’ corn. But no one blamed(责怪)them. “It is OK. They are just hungry,” a farmer said.
Scientists guessed that the elephants were losing their habitat, so they might go north to look for a new home with more food. Or the group might lose its way because its leader had no experience!
To help the elephants get home and protect them, the government used 76 police cars and trucks, as well as five diggers and nine drones(无人机). Police and scientists closely watched them. They watched the group’s movement and sent warnings(警示)to nearby people not to get close to the elephants. They also helped them with food and drink. Finally, the elephants ended their trip safely and happily after 17 months and a 500-kilometer journey.

(2022秋·广东东莞·八年级东莞市东莞中学松山湖学校校考期末)Computers, smart phones and other machines are the perfect servants because they always do what they are “told”. We usually “tell” them to do things by using a mouse or keyboard. But what if we could just talk to them normally and tell them What to do?
This type of technology known as voice control or voice recognition(识别)has been shown in films and TV shows since the 1960s. The TV show Slar Trek showed some spaceships which could reply to human voice commands. The film 2001: A Space Odyssey showed a computer that human astronauts can talk to. It was mainly used to play chess and repair astronauts’ spaceship.
On the other hand, the real-world voice recognition is used for more everyday tasks. For example, Apple and Amazon made two pieces of voice recognition software(软件). They can be asked to do many things, such as setting alarms, playing music and so on.
One of the nice things about voice recognition is that it can be used when we are on the go. When you are driving a car or walking down the street, it’s not convenient or even dangerous to pick up your smartphone or type away on the keyboard. Voice recognition allows you to focus on whatever you are doing at the moment while still doing other tasks.
Speech recognition software is also helpful to deaf people. It can be used to listen to spoken words and turn them into text that deaf people can read. Some speech recognition software can even hear words spoken in one language and then translate(翻译)them into another language.
56.We usually control machines ________ in daily life.

C.by using a mouse or keyboard D.by connecting them to the electricity
57.How does voice recognition help to keep you safe while driving a car?

B.It allows you to type on the keyboard more conveniently.
C.It can control your car for a short while.
D.It can help you to receive phone calls safely.
58.What does the underlined word “convenient” mean in Chinese?
A.快速的 B.方便的 C.积极的 D.敏感的

(2022秋·广东揭阳·八年级统考期末)Two years ago I left college and went back to work as a bank clerk in my hometown. I lived with my parents in a flat. But the flat has only two rooms and it was not big enough for us to live together any more. So last month we spent all our money buying a new apartment. It is very beautiful. Now let me tell you something about it.
Our apartment is not in the center of the city. It is 20 miles from the center. But different buses and undergrounds can take us to different places at any time. And we don’t have any traffic jam (堵塞). Our apartment is on the fifth floor of a tall building. The building has 32 floors in all.
There are three bedrooms in our apartment, one for my mother and father, one for me and the other for the guests who come to visit us. There is a living-room, a kitchen and a bathroom in our apartment. When you step into our apartment, you can see a wooden sofa, a tea table, a big Sony TV in the living room. (2022秋·广东东莞·八年级东莞市光明中学校考期末)Clothes are useful and important to us, but do you know how to choose suitable (合适的) clothes in a correct way? Here are some ideas for you.
When you go shopping and want to buy some clothes, you should think about which kind of clothes you really need and decide how much money you can spend on them. Then look at the labels that are inside the new clothes. They tell you how to take care of the clothes. The label for a shirt may tell you to wash it in warm water. A sweater label may tell you to wash it in cold water. The label on a coat may say “dry clean only” and cleaning in water may ruin (损坏) this coat. If you do as what says on the label, you can keep your clothes looking their best.
Many clothes today must be dry-cleaned. Dry cleaning is expensive. When buying new clothes, you had better check if they need to be dry-cleaned. You can save money if you can wash them in the water. People can use well-made clothes for a longer time. They look good even after people wash them many times.

Trisha Anderson, 16
I’m going to teach kids who have trouble reading. I’ll work for a program called Reading For Life. Every day, I’m going to help kids choose and read books that they like. I want to be a teacher and I love children and reading, so this is going to be a great experience for me.
