With all the recent concern about the environment, people want to see their money used to better the planet. Here are four well-known environmental organizations.
World Wildlife Fund (WWF)
The World Wildlife Fund is perhaps one of the best-known organizations for the protection of endangered species and their habitats around the world. They've been around for over 45 years. You can donate through their website worldwildlife.org, join their organization as a member, or adopt an animal through their online adoption center.
National Geographic Society (NGS)
National Geographic Society is well-known for their magazine and their specials on TV. The organization itself is one of the longest-running in the world—they've been around since 1888, focus on exploration and conservation of forests, oceans, habitats, species and societies. You choose to donate through the website nationalgeographic.com, buy something at their online store, or order a magazine subscription.
National Wildlife Federation (NWF)
Founded officially in 1937, the National Wildlife Federation tries to protect wildlife at all costs. In fact, they believe that having the public educated is the best way to help the environment—the more you know, the more you can protect the world we live in. Donations to the NWF can be made through their website nwf.org or through other options, like matching gifts, workplace giving, or memorial donations.
Ecology Fund, com
Set up in 1976, Ecology Fund, com is run on user clicks. Advertisers buy ad space on the site every time someone clicks. The money goes to buy endangered wilderness land to protect it from companies that would destroy it. So far, Ecology Fund, com has bought land in many areas. The best thing about this site is that you needn't donate any money—all you have to do is click.

NEW HAVEN, Connecticut—A surprise awaited students in Yale who showed up for Professor Laurie Santos's class. They got slips of paper that said, "No class today." There was only one rule for the students ' unexpected free time—They were not allowed to study, but to relax. Since exams and papers were coming up, everyone was tired and stressed. At this moment they were touched. With around applause, nine students hugged Santos, and two burst into tears.
Yet, cancelling class was not just a break. It was also a challenge, as she was asking them to stop worrying about their grades, even if it was just an hour. One student went to the Yale University Art Gallery for the first time in her four years at Yale. A group of students went to a recording studio and played a new song. More people were outside, and more were smiling. That's why about 1,200 students were taking Santos's class, called "Psychology and the Good Life," the largest class in Yale's 317-year history. Even non-Yale students had the chance to take Santos's class. It was offered as an online course and she immediately became an Internet hit.
Skyler Robinson, one of her students, was at a loss for a while about what to do during his break, and then decided to take a nap. "It was a great nap," he commented. Santos designed the class after she realized that her students kept busy through long days that seemed far more depressing and joyless than her own college years. "They feel they're in this crazy rat race. They're working so hard that they can't take a single hour off. That's awful."
The ideas behind the class are simple. Santos said, "It is the hope that science can help students find peace among all the stresses and difficulties they face at college." The lessons include showing more gratitude, performing acts of kindness and increasing social connections. The students really wanted to learn to lead a happy life in a science -driven way. Santos also noted the psychological happening of "mis-wanting", which led people to work towards the wrong goals in life.
One week, Santo asked students to exercise. Another week, she wanted them to get more sleep. They worked hard to keep some new habits. Social science research led to many new understandings of how people find happiness. She thinks her class can change Yale, or rather, not just Yale.
24. How did students respond to the cancelling class?
A. They expressed their concern.
B. They were at a loss what to do.
C. They showed gratitude to the teacher.
D. They were eager to study individually.
25. How can we know Santo's class was popular?
A. From the attendance in her class.
B. From the subject she taught.
C. From the long history of Yale.
D. From the release of the online course.
26. What can students learn from Santos's class?
A. To develop good study habits.
B. To let exercise become their routine.
C. To better understand how to find happiness.
D. To do something joyful during the stressful time.
27. What can we infer from the text?
A. Santos had a more stressful time in her college.
B. Students would be in rat race after Santos's class.
C. Santos's influence can reach a wider range of people.
D. Santos is going to cancel more classes for better effects.
C
Have you ever looked at a seal and thought "Is that the same seal I saw yesterday?" Well, there could soon be an app for that. Taking inspiration from other technology adapted for recognizing primates(灵长目动物) and bears, Krista Ingram, a biologist at Colgate University, developed SealNet, the software that uses deep learning and a convolutional neural network(卷积神经网络) to tell one seal face from another.
The team had to train their software to identify seal faces. "I give it a photograph, it finds the face, and clips it to a standard size," says Ingram.
They tested the software using 406 different seals and found that SealNet could correctly identify the seals' faces 85 percent of the time. The team has since expanded its database to include around 1,500 seal faces. As the number of seals logged in the database goes up, so does the accuracy of the identification, Ingram says.
As with all tech, however, SealNet is not always infallible. The software saw seal faces in other body parts, vegetation, and even rocks. In one case, Ingram and her students did a double take at the uncanny(不可思议的) resemblance between a rock and a seal face.
Ingram points to site fidelity(忠诚) as an aspect of seal behavior that SealNet could shed more light on. The team's trials indicated that some harbor seals return to the same sites year after year. Increasing scientists' understanding of how seals move around could strengthen arguments for protecting specific areas, says Anders Galatius, an ecologist at Aarhus University in Denmark who was not involved in the project.
28. What is the main function of SealNet?
A. Distinguishing different seals. B. Recognizing primates and bears.
C. Taking pictures for various animals. D. Clipping photos to a standard size.
29. How can the accuracy of SealNet be improved?
A. By taking detailed pictures. B. By uploading more seal faces.
C. By upgrading the technology. D. By improving the skills of users.
30. What does the underlined word "infallible" mean in paragraph 4?
A. Unique. B. Scientific. C. Convenient. D. Reliable.
31. What is the significance of SealNet?
A. It can help find more seals. B. It can help better protect seals.
C. It can help locate a specific seal. D. It can help learn about seals.

A newly developed disposable paper battery promises to make a big impact on single-use electronics. The battery that has been demonstrated by researchers is biodegradable(可生物降解的), made from sustainable materials, and cheap to put together. What's more, it can be produced in a variety of shapes and sizes as needed.
To give an idea of the power, a two-cell battery was enough to power an LCD alarm clock. While it won't be charging up your computer anytime soon, there's lots of potential for low-powered sensors. "We present a printed paper battery developed to power single-use disposable electronics and to reduce their environmental impact to the lowest level," write the researchers in their published paper.
The battery is based on a metal-air electrochemical cell. Made from sodium chloride salt-diffused(氯化钠盐扩散的) paper, it can measure as little as one square centimeter, and is based on printed inks. All that's needed, then, is a small amount of water, as little as two drops. This dissolves the salts within the paper, and then activates the battery as they travel. The battery starts producing power around 20 seconds after water is added, according to the experiments carried out by the team.
Although the performance decreases over time as the paper dries out, it can be topped up to some extent with more water. The researchers say they want to improve the efficiency of the battery in the future, and get it working for longer.
"With a rising awareness of the e-waste problem and the emergence of single-use electronics for applications, there is a growing need for low environmental impact batteries," write the researchers.
32. Which of the following statement about the paper battery is true?
A. It is made from single-use materials.
B. It is costly to put together.
C. It can be produced in diverse shapes.
D. It can be used to charge up your computer.
33. What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about?
A. How the paper battery works.
B. What the paper battery consists of.
C. Why the paper battery is popular.
D. Where the paper battery can be applied.
34. What does the underlined phrase "topped up" in paragraph 4 mean?
A. Declined B. Maintained C. Increased D. Changed
35. What is the researchers' attitude towards the future of the paper battery?
A. Indifferent B. Pessimistic C. Cautious D. Promising

I have always loved libraries ever since I was a boy. Over the years I have read more books than I can count and I have visited the local libraries more times than I can remember. Now in the age of the Internet and with so many faces in screens instead of books, I am concerned that places like these will begin to fade away and we will lose all the joy they bring.
I stopped at the library nearest my home just the other day. It was right off from the local grade school and had been my home since I was young. I opened the door and walked inside. The librarian, David, greeted me warmly, "Good afternoon, Jane. Welcome to the library again." On the desk next to him sat a beautiful, black cat. "Good afternoon, Mr David. What a cute cat!" I patted the cat gently on the head and smiled.
I gave David a book I wanted to donate and then wandered into the back room to look at the books for sale. The black cat had returned to the room. She stretched. She sharpened her claws for a moment on the furniture. Then she jumped up on the shelf. She meowed(喵喵叫) and let her head up against my hand hoping that I would start petting her again. I smiled and petted her head, and spoke sweetly to her while she rolled on her back.
I thought that if only we could let our guard down as easily and openly as this cat then this world would be a lot more beautiful. I gave my new furry friend some food and then walked out. Then I picked out a book about animal protection, where I learned a lot. The world is full of life, wisdom and love. Let's benefit from people, nature, books and libraries, and occasionally friendly cats.

As the number of seals logged in the database goes up, so does the accuracy of the identification, Ingram says."(英格拉姆说,随着数据库中记录的海豹数量的增加,识别的准确性也在提高。)
The software saw seal faces in other body parts, vegetation, and even rocks."(该软件可以在身体的其他部位、植被甚至岩石上看到海豹的脸。)
Increasing scientists' understanding of how seals move around could strengthen arguments for protecting specific areas, says Anders Galatius, an ecologist at Aarhus University in Denmark who was not involved in the project."(丹麦奥胡斯大学(Aarhus University)的生态学家安德斯·加拉修斯(Anders Galatius)说,增加科学家对海豹活动方式的了解,可以加强保护特定区域的论点。
D
32.答案:C

33.答案:A
The battery is based on a metal-air electrochemical cell. Made from sodium chloride salt-diffused(氯化钠盐扩散的) paper, it can measure as little as one square centimeter, and is based on printed inks. All that's needed, then, is a small amount of water, as little as two drops. This dissolves the salts within the paper, and then activates the battery as they travel(这种电池是基于金属—空气电化学电池。它由氯化钠盐扩散纸制成,最小可达一平方厘米,并以印刷油墨为基础。那么,所需要的只是少量的水,只有两滴。这会溶解纸中的盐,然后在它们移动的过程中激活电池)"可知,本段主要讲解的是纸电池的工作原理。故选A。
Although the performance decreases over time as the paper dries out (尽管随着时间的推移,纸张变干,性能会下降)"以及划线处后句"with more water (用更多的水)"以及下文"The researchers say they want to improve the efficiency of the battery in the future, and get it working for longer.(研究人员说,他们希望在未来提高电池的效率,并使其工作时间更长。)" 划线处和C项:Increased(增加)含义一致。故选C。
With a rising awareness of the e-waste problem and the emergence of single-use electronics for applications, there is a growing need for low environmental impact batteries(随着人们对电子垃圾问题的认识不断提高,以及一次性电子产品应用的出现,对低环境影响电池的需求越来越大)"可知,研究人员认为未来纸电池是有希望的。故选D。

第二节
答案:
Paragraph 1:
After that, I brought food for the cat every time I went to the library. Whenever I walked into the library, the cat came to me quickly. She stared at me with her big eyes and meowed at the same time. She rubbed against me, asking me to pet her. I would give food to her to eat. Then she would sit beside me while I was reading. When I left the library, she followed me to the door to see me off. I patted her on the head to tell her to go back.
Paragraph 2:
One day, when I came to the library, the cat greeted me with five little cats. I couldn't wait to ask David, "Where are the baby cats from?" He said the cat became a mother not long ago and that he loved the group. But he also complained that he could no longer afford to keep so many cats. I told him I could adopt them. He was glad to agree. Thus I took them home that day. I made them a small house so that they could have a comfortable home. Now we live happily and harmoniously together.
