(2021春·江苏·八年级统考期末)Life comes in a package. This package includes happiness and sadness, failure and success, hope and despair. Experiences in life teach us new lessons and make us a better person. With each passing day we learn to deal with different situations.
Love plays a main role in our life. Love makes you feel wanted. In the early stage of our life, our parents are the ones who show us with love and care. They teach us what is right and wrong, good and bad. But we don’t always care about it. It is only after marriage and having kids that a person understands others’ feelings.
Happiness can bring people a peaceful mind. No mind is happy without peace. Sadness comes from the death of a loved one or the failure. But all of these things will pass away.
Failure is the path to success. It helps us to touch the sky, teaches us to survive and shows us a special way. Success brings money, pride and self-confidence.
Hope is what keeps life going. Hope makes us dream. Life teaches us not to despair even in the darkest hour, because after every night there is a day. Tomorrow is unknown, for it could either be bright or boring. So what we can choose is to work hard today, so that we can enjoy a better tomorrow.

Yuan, known as China’s father of hybrid rice(杂交水稻), created hybrid rice that helps feed the world. On May 22, Yuan died at 91. People around the world were sad to hear of his death.
In the 1960s, people in China didn’t have enough food to eat. Many people even died because of this. Yuan was so sad that he decided to work on a kind of hybrid rice. He thought this rice could feed more people.
At that time, other scientists didn’t think hybrid rice was possible. But Yuan wanted to try anyway. He spent four years looking for wild rice that could be crossed(杂交) with other plants. In 1964, he found it.

(2018春·江苏·八年级校联考期末)In most situations, light helps us to see. But nowadays humans are using too much of it so that it is in fact a kind of pollution.
When we look at the night sky, too much light makes it difficult for us to watch some most wonderful sights: stars, planets and even galaxies.
According to scientific research, about 2,500 stars can be seen by the human eyes without any special equipment (装备). But because of light pollution, you can only see 200 to 300 stars from today’s countryside, and no more than ten stars from a city. In most big cities, people cannot see the sky filled with stars like they did in their childhood.
Light pollution affects (影响) more than just our view of sky. Research shows that lots of night-time light can harm wildlife, too.
When birds fly to another place over cities, they sometimes get lost by the brightness and fly in circles until they drop from tiredness. Sea tortoises need dark beaches for laying eggs, but they can’t find their ideal places because of those bright lights.
Too much light at night may even affect human health, but scientists are not sure of that. They are still learning more.
In order to prevent things from going worse, governments and some organizations are working to reduce light pollution. Many cities and towns have taken action to reduce the use of lights at night. Lights are used only when and where they are truly needed. They also shine lights down at the ground instead of up into the sky and use lower brightness levels.
Hopefully, in the near future, humans can enjoy the clear and beautiful sky again and all the wildlife will live a peaceful and undisturbed (不受打扰) life, too.
34.Why does the writer think that too much light is a kind of pollution?
A.Because there are fewer and fewer stars.
B.Because some of the wildlife can be harmed.
C.Because too much light is a waste of energy.
D.Because scientists think human health has been affected.
35.Which of the following is NOT mentioned(提到) in this passage?
A.The problems that light pollution has caused.
B.The reason why humans use too much light.
C.The ways that light pollution can be reduced.
D.The reason why fewer stars can be seen than before.
36.Which of the following is true according to the passage?
A.There are about 2,500 stars in the sky.
B.Humans want to do nothing to reduce light pollution.
C.Sea tortoises always get lost and die from tiredness.
D.Something has been done to reduce light pollution.
37.Which is the best title for the passage?

(2018春·江苏苏州·八年级统考期末)A reader wrote to say that she was feeling left out at break because her best friend wasn’t around. Here’s our advice to her—and to all kids who feel lonely sometimes.
It’s hard when a best friend isn’t around—maybe because she moved to a different school or a different class. You may feel lonely at break or lunchtime. You want to have new friends, but how do you make them? Maybe it seems that everybody else already has their friends. But remember, there’s always room for more friends.
Start by looking around your classroom—think about which kids you’d like to play with at break. Look for chances to say hi to them, smile, and be friendly. Offer to share something or express your appreciation(欣赏)to them. Invite someone to play with you or say “Do you want to sit here?” in the lunchroom. When you’re at break, walk over to kids you want to play with and say “Hi, can I play, too?” or just join in.
If you find it difficult to do this or if you’re feeling shy, ask your teacher to help you make new friends. Teachers are usually pretty good at matching up friends. The best way to make friends is to be a friend. Be kind, be friendly, share, say nice things, offer to help—and pretty soon, you’ll have one, or two, or even more new friends.
You might still miss that special best friend. But when you see each other, you can share something you didn’t have before she left: You can introduce her to your new friends!

(2018春·江苏苏州·八年级统考期末)Research suggests that at least 64% of people now spend up to four hours daily of spare time in front of a screen. Just as TV watching has been linked to higher chances of being fat and getting diseases, this extra sedentary time is bad news for our health.
1. Choose outdoor activities over technology
When you’re at home, make it a rule that you can’t be online if the sun is shining. This rule should be fit for everyone in your family.
2. Limit social media(媒体) use
Social networks(网络) have changed computer and mobile use for people of all ages. Whether it’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Snapchat, limit the amount of time you spend on social media. Avoid aimless browsing(浏览) and give your time online a purpose: search for information about holidays or catch up on the news of the day. Then log off(退出).
3. Save time for reading

(2018春·江苏·八年级校联考期末)Most people want to be happy, but few know how to find happiness. Money and success alone do not bring lasting happiness. Aristotle, a Greek thinker, said “Happiness depends on ourselves.” In other words, we make our own happiness. Here are a few suggestions to help you to be happier.
The first secret of happiness is to enjoy simple things in life. Too often, we spend so much time thinking about the future-for example, getting into college or getting a good job-that we fail to enjoy the present. You should enjoy life’s simple pleasures, such as reading a good book, listening to your favorite music, or spending time with close friends. People who have several close friends often live a happier and healthier life.
Another secret to live a happy life is to be active, and to have hobbies where you forget your problems and time. Many people experience this through dancing, or playing a sport, such as swimming. You can forget about your problems, and only think about the activity.
Finally, many people find happiness in helping others. Studies show that people feel good when they spend their time helping others. If you want to feel happier, do good things for someone. You can help a friend with his or her studies. You can go shopping to buy food for an elderly person, or just help out around the house by washing the dishes.
54.What’s the best title of the passage?
A.Money Makes You Happy B.The Secrets of Happiness
C.Ideas for Helping Other People to Be Happy D.Good Friends Make You Happy

(2018春·江苏·八年级校联考期末)I arrived in the classroom, ready to share my knowledge and experience with 76 students who would be my English literature(文学) class. Having taught in the US for 17 years, I was sure of my ability to hold their attention and I was confident that they would admire(钦佩) my ability to teach them literature well in English.
I was shocked when the monitor shouted, “stand up!” The whole class rose as I entered the room and I was somewhat unclear about how to get them to sit down again, but once the embarrassment(尴尬) was over, I quickly gained my calmness and admiration again. I went back, to my office with the rosy glow which came from a strong sense of achievement(成就).
My students kept diaries. However, as I read them, the rosy glow was slowly replaced(取代) by a strong sense of sadness. The first diary said, “Our literature teacher didn’t teach us anything today perhaps her next lecture(讲座) will be better.” Greatly surprised, I read diary after diary, each saying something about a similar theme. “Didn’t I teach them anything? I described the whole Western philosophy(哲学) and laid the historical background for all the works we will study in class,” I complained. “How should they say I didn’t teach them anything?”
It was a long term, and it slowly became clear that my ideas about education were not the same as those of my students. I thought a teacher’s job was to raise interesting questions and provide enough background so that students could draw their own conclusions. My students thought a teacher’s job was to provide exact information as directly and clearly as possible. What a difference!

My heart nearly stopped. I quickly reached for my wallet and suggested that we count the money again. "Okay," he said. "I hope that I have enough." I added some of my money to his without letting him see and we started to count it. There was enough for the doll and even some spare money left. (2021春·江苏苏州·八年级统考期末)People often ask me for advice about how to learn English. As for it, everyone is different. I'll share some of my experiences. I once took a school year English course in Wuhan University, but I mostly learned English on my own.
One thing I can tell you is that, once you've started learning, you should try to think in English as much as you can. If you see something when you're riding your bike or walking down the street, just think about "How would I say them in English?" At first, it might be with simple words or phrases, but later you should think about longer phrases and sentences. Now I'm in America, and for most of the time, I would think in English and speak it directly. It's amazing how much this helps.
For a few years after I started learning, I was often afraid of talking with others in English because I didn't want to make mistakes. Finally I got it over. And while traveling in America, I'd try to hang out with friends who couldn't speak Chinese, so that I'd have no choice but to speak English. And I also decided that if I said something stupid and other people laughed at me, then so be it. After that, my English started improving much more quickly.
Besides, it may be a good idea to ask your American friends to look at the way you're writing, and give you some advice for improvement.
78.The writer learned English in Wuhan University for about ________.
A.a week B.a month C.a term D.a year

80.The underlined phrase "get it over" in Paragraph 3 means "________" in English.
A.reply to it B.depend on it C.solve it D.understand it
81.The best title for this passage should be ________.
A.The Importance of English B.My English Learning Experience
C.My University Life D.My American Friends
(2021春·江苏苏州·八年级统考期末)When Shanghai introduced a new rubbish sorting policy(政策) in July last year, the people in this city took some time to get used to it. They joked that every time they took out their litter, the aunt standing by the bins would ask, "What kind of litter are you?"
Starting on May 1, Beijing joined many Chinese cities by introducing a new rubbish sorting policy. People should sort their litter into four groups: kitchen, recyclable, harmful and other waste. These groups are represented(代表) by four different colors of rubbish bins-green, blue, red and gray. Those who fail to sort their litter correctly may face fines of up to 200 yuan.
The way Beijing sorts its rubbish sounds different from cities like Shanghai and Qingdao. These cities use four different groups: wet, recyclable, harmful and dry. Although their names are different, the groups are actually the same. Wet rubbish in Shanghai is, in fact, kitchen rubbish. And dry rubbish is the same as other waste.
Many people don't know how to sort their litter correctly, so Beijing government is offering online guidelines.
