The winter break is just about to end. Soon we will be back at school. It's with both happiness and sadness. I look very much forward to seeing my friends and starting practice again, but it also means I'm officially half way through the exchange year. With school starting there are new things to try out and experience. For example, I'm starting a new sport, Track. It's similar to Cross Country, which I did from August till November.
Being here for half a year now, I can easily tell the differences between my two schools. The hardest or most different part for me was to have the same schedule every day here. Honestly, I prefer to have different classes every day, as I did in my home country. However, I have fallen in love with the Friday football games. Football is one of my favorite sports now. Before I came, I knew nothing about it. Now I love it, especially to watch it with my host parents. I have also been so lucky to go to two college football games.
Before I left school in December, I had a couple of tests called Mid-term Test. They all went pretty smooth, mostly because I didn't have too many hard classes. My favorite class was English, and also my hardest. Personally I really liked English, where I could write essays(文章), challenge writing skills and improve English talking.
Only four days of winter break is left. A part of me wants to be on a break forever, and the other part expects to get started again, start a new sport and see my friends and classmates.

    A. Classes. B. Tests. C. Games. D. Students.

We see a woman swimming at night in a dark sea. Suddenly, she is pulled underwater. She surfaces, cries in fear, then disappears forever. This is the opening scene from the 1975 film Jaws, showing a shark attack. It tells the story of a great white shark that attacks and kills swimmers.
People have always been scared of sharks, but Jaws made things worse. It made people frightened of sharks, especially of the great white shark. Many people who saw the film started to believe that sharks were bad animals that ate humans. Some people stopped swimming in the sea, afraid of the horrible creature from the film. Other people started fishing for sharks, killing as many as they could. At that time, nobody cared if sharks were killed, or how many were killed. People just wanted them killed.
After 1975, the number of large sharks around America fell quickly, and soon fell around the world. This was not only due to fear of sharks, but also finning. Finning is a type of fishing where sharks are caught and their fins cut off. The sharks are thrown back into the sea where they die slowly and painfully. The fins are used in shark fin soup. Finning kills millions of sharks a year.
Finning would have an unexpected effect upon Peter Benchley, the man who wrote the book the film Jaws was based on. In 1980, Benchley was diving when he came across an awful sight. It was an area where fishermen were finning, and the sea floor was covered with dead sharks. Benchley saw sharks being killed and this caused a deep change in him. He came to see people as a danger to sharks, rather than the other way round. From that day on, he fought to protect sharks. He admitted that his book was wrong about sharks' behavior. "Sharks don't target humans," he said. Experts have proved that sharks do not see people as food, and they attack us by mistake.
Fortunately, not everyone who watched the film Jaws became afraid of sharks-some became interested in understanding them. Today, as we learn more about sharks, more people than ever want to protect them from extinction.
    28. How were people affected by the film Jaws after seeing it?
    A. Some killed as many sharks as possible.
    B. Some began to believe sharks were friendly.
    C. Some became more interested in swimming in the sea.
    D. Some called on others to protect the endangered sharks.
    29. What happens to a shark when it is finned?
    A. It will be served onto the table as soup. B. It will suffer a lot and die slowly in the sea.
    C. Its fins will grow again after some time. D. Its fins will be thrown into the ocean.
    30. What caused a deep change in Peter Benchley?
    A. Seeing the finning scene and many dead sharks.
    B. Writing the book the film Jaws was based on.
    C. Joining the fishermen who were killing and finning.
    D. Knowing that sharks do not target and eat humans.
    31. What is the author's purpose in writing the text?
    A. To prove that sharks are dangerous animals.
    B. To recommend a film and a book to people.
    C. To criticize Peter Benchley's misleading description of sharks in his book.
    D. To explain people's misunderstanding of sharks and raise awareness of shark protection.
    D
The mental health of children is connected to their parents' mental health. A recent study asked parents to report on their children's mental and physical(身体的)health as well as their own mental health. One in 14 children aged 0~17 years had a parent who reported poor mental health, and those children were more likely to have poor general health and a mental or developmental disability.
Being mentally healthy during childhood includes reaching developmental milestones, learning healthy social skills and how to solve problems. Mentally healthy children are more likely to have a happy life and are more likely to work well at home, in school, and in their communities.
A child's healthy development depends on their parents who serve as their first sources of support in becoming independent and leading healthy and successful lives.
The mental health of parents and children is connected in many ways. Parents who have their own mental health challenges, such as dealing with anxiety(fear or worry), may have more difficulty providing care for their children compared to parents who describe their mental health as good. Caring for children can create challenges for parents, particularly if they lack(缺乏)support, which can have a negative effect on a parent's mental health. Parents and children may also experience shared risks, such as living in unsafe environments, and the like.
Fathers are important for improving children's mental health, although they are not as often included in research studies as mothers. The recent study looked at fathers and found similar connections between their mental health and their children's general and mental health as for mothers. Fathers and mothers need support, which, in turn, can help them support their children's mental health.
    32. What does the study mainly focus on?
    A. Some useful social skills. B. Children's future life.
    C. Parent-child mental health. D. Community's influence.
    33. Which is a challenge for parents according to the text?
    A. Raising kids without support. B. Living in a strange place.
    C. Sharing a common interest. D. Communicating with each other.
    34. What can we know about fathers from the last paragraph?
    A. They are often included in studies. B. They play a more important part.
    C. They seldom bear the responsibility. D. They can influence children's health.
    35. Where can the text be found?
    A. In a diary. B. In a book review. C. In a magazine. D. In a children's story.

“Look at the little dog!" a girl shouted from across the street. “She's got rain boots(靴子)!” I smiled and waved. I would never have put clothes on any animal I owned, but Velma wasn't my dog. I'd just offered to walk her this morning because my friend, Arlene, fell ill. When Arlene had asked me to walk Velma, I'd been happy to volunteer. But I was less pleased when Arlene made me spend 20 minutes putting on Velma's raincoat and four tiny rain boots. Once outside, I had expected to walk Velma around quickly. But with all the people stopping me every few minutes to talk about the little dog, it was taking me a long time. It was a moment of letting my unhappy feeling away to get her back home. I had done my good deed(行为)and could finally go off to work before I was late.
As I turned to go, Arlene said at the door, "Thank you so much. I'll see you again at noon.” “Wait, what?" I was shocked by her words. “That's when Velma gets her next walk,” Arlene said as if I'd somehow agreed to a whole daily schedule. “I'm sorry, Arlene,” I said. “I have to be at work." “Oh,” Arlene said, "I guess we'll see you at six then.” “Great,” I said, making my escape.10 minutes later I realized that I'd just agreed to walk her dog again at six! How had I let that happen? I agreed to do things I really didn't want to do.
That day was just the beginning. All the next week, Arlene “reminded” me to walk Velma at various times throughout the day. “Velma loves you, "she said one evening when I came to get the dog. "Sometimes I think she likes you better." That sent a shake down my body. Was Arlene trying to make me Velma's long-time dog walker? God, what have I gotten myself into?
    注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右;
    2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

    (Text 2)
W: I don't really like the painting. It's not my cup of tea. Too modern and unusual.

    (Text 8)
M: Miss Green, do you think, within a few years, many people could work at home instead of working outside?
W: It's happening now. The communication industry has made much progress in recent years, like the development of 5G smartphones, and AI technology also helps.
M: And how do these people manage to work?
W: Well, they have a television set, a computer, a printer and a telephone to connect with other computers.
M: Oh, I see. But surely there' re some advantages in working at home.
W: Yes. People don't have to spend a lot of time getting to and from their workplaces. The rush hours are the worst time of day. They may make more money if they apply for more different jobs.
M: Ah, yes, I see. What do you think about the conditions of homeworkers?
W: Let me tell you what might happen. A British company, for example, in London, might employ clerks in Belfast, or a Paris company could have their managers in Spain. They just use a telephone to call around for the employee.
    (Text 9)
M: Good afternoon, Penny. What's the problem?
W: Well, I don't feel very well, doctor. After three days of the toothache and sore throat, I'm troubled by a terrible earache now.
M: I can give you a new medicine called Nopain, which is very useful. You can get it at any medicine shops.
    W: Nopain?
M: Yes. N-O-P-A-I-N. And you have to take the medicine after breakfast and supper. You don't need to take it after lunch. And remember to take it always after meals. That's very important.
W: And how long do I have to take it?
M: You have to finish this bottle, so that's five days. Come back and see me then.
W: Next Monday? The first of September?
M: No, not Monday, Tuesday. That's the second of September.
W: What time can I see you, doctor?
M: You have to make an appointment with the nurse at the reception outside.
    W: Thank you very much.
    (Text 10)
W: As the car industry develops, traffic accidents have become as familiar as the common cold. Yet their causes and control remain a serious problem that is difficult to solve. Experts have long recognized that this discouraging problem has many causes. At the very least, it is a problem that involves three factors: the driver, the vehicle and the roadway. If all the drivers exercised good judgment at all times, there would be few accidents. Improved design has helped to make highways much safer. But the number of accidents continues to rise because of human failure and an enormous increase in the number of automobiles on the road. Attention is now turning increasingly to the third cause of the accidents: the car itself. People want to know how cars can be built better to protect the drivers. So there are also some new driverless cars on the road. Are they really safe?

    第一节
    One possible version:
    Dear Mary,
Our school has recently taken various measures to improve students' health. Now I'd like to share one of them with you.
We all know "Enjoy health, Keep sporty" is one of our school's mottos(座右铭), so our school encourages a physical activity-Morning Jogging. It has been nearly three months since the measure was taken, and many students have become stronger. Better health has contributed to our study. We are more energetic and active in class now.
The measure has proved very effective and I hope it will lead other schools to follow suit.
    Yours,
    Li Hua
    第二节
    One possible version:
To refuse Arlene, I struggled for some days, and then I thought of calling my friend Callie. "She talks as if I should feel lucky to get to walk her dog! I gave Arlene a list of local dog walkers, but she hasn't called any of them," I complained. "You just have to tell her 'No', Linda," Callie said. "With the 'No' word, I could imagine Arlene's face falling. After all, we are friends and she is dealing with a medical treatment," I said hopelessly. Callie explained, "Saying' No' to her is one of the best ways to make you happy. She will respect you more if the' No' word appears appropriately!"
I decided to try taking Callie's advice, so I walked over to Arlene's. "Although I love Velma, I no longer want to walk her," I said, and then stopped, waited. There was a long pause. "I really appreciate all you did for her," Arlene said, thoughtfully. "I still have that list of dog walkers you gave me." To my surprise, Arlene was taking it so well! We were just as friendly as ever. When to say "No"? God was using a dog to teach me that lesson.
