I was filled with doubts and worries until my grandfather told me to stand tall.
For me, height was my trouble. I was much taller than other girls, I often bent( 弯曲) my body at the back of the line. I had always felt unsafe as the tallest student of my class in Bala Cynoy. And I wasn't looking forward to entering the ninth grade.
My grandfather didn't laugh at me. Instead, whenever I tried to bend myself in order to appear shorter, he would tell me "Stand straight and tall, Alisa. "I trusted my grandfather more than anyone else in my childhood. And whenever I was afraid of something, he always told me stories of his life.
My grandfather grew up in war﹣torn(战乱的) Europe. " Stand straight, stand tall "meant something else then. After the war, he went to America. He lived a hard life, "If they could do it, why couldn't I?""Stand straight, stand tall, "he often reminded(提醒) himself. Thanks to the help of a friend, my grandfather got a job. He once told me that he was very nervous at first. He was not only trying to learn this hard new job but also a new language.
"Stand straight, stand tall, " he would always tell himself. I am so proud of my grandfather. After listening to my grandfather’s unusual experiences, I have changed the way I look at my own life.

    Passage2.
Cait, 11, was trying to fall asleep when her 8-year-old brother, Doug, came into her room. He looked around, but seemed really out of it. Then Doug went back into the hallway and stood there looking straight up at the light.
This was really strange. Cait didn't know what to do. Just then, Cait's father appeared and explained Doug was sleepwalking.
Not all sleep is the same every night. We experience some deep, quiet sleep and some active sleep, which is when dreams happen. You might think sleepwalking would happen during active sleep, but a person isn't physically active during active sleep. It usually happens in the first few hours of sleep in the period called deep sleep.
The truth is that not all sleepwalkers walk. Some simply sit up or stand in bed or act like they're awake when, in fact, they're asleep! Most, however, do get up and walk around for a few seconds or for as long as half an hour.
Sleepwalkers' eyes are open, but they don't see the same way they do when they're awake. They tend to go back to bed on their own and won't remember it in the morning.
You also might have heard that sleepwalkers can get frightened if you wake them up. That's true, so what do you do if you see someone sleepwalking? You should call for a grown-up who can lead the person back to bed. And once the sleepwalker is tucked back in bed, it's time for you to get some sleep, too!
    41. What does "out of it" most probably mean in Chinese?
    A.茫然不觉 B.心满意足 C.垂头丧气 D.悠然自得
    42. When does sleepwalking usually happen?
A.During active sleep. B.In the first few hours of sleep.
C.When dreams begin. D.When we're trying to fall asleep.
    43. Which paragraphs tell what sleepwalkers do?
    A.①② B.②③ C.③④ D.④⑤
    44. What should we do if we see people sleepwalking?
A.Wake the mup. B.Walk around with them.
C.Do nothing and get your own sleep. D.Ask grown-ups to lead them to bed.
    45. Who is the text written for?
    A.Teachers. B.Doctors. C.Parents. D.Children.
    Passage3.
Chinese team first lands on Antarctic icecap peak (南极冰盖最高点)
A 12-man Chinese team landed on the Antarctic icecap peak on January 18. They are the first people to reach the peak of Dome A. It is 4,039 meters above sea level (海拔).
The team built a station there to study the changes of the weather, get ice samples (标本) from 150 meters to 200 meters below, and do other studies. So far, the team has got nearly 100-meter long ice samples from a place about 300 meters under the icecap peak.
It is the first time that people have been able to get samples from the icecap peak in Antarctica and it is very important for people to study the weather changes and environmental changes in this area.
The Chinese scientists have also built a weather study system at the peak. The system can send out information about temperature, how strong the wind is, and many other things about the weather.
The Antarctic icecap makes up 70% of the earth's freshwater. By studying Dome A, scientists can get the lowest temperature of the earth and other information about the world's weather changes. We can't get this information from other places on the earth because Dome A is the best place for this kind of studies. So it is very important to land on the peak of Dome A.
    46. How many Chinese first landed on the Antarctic icecap peak?
    A.18.        B.12.          C.150.        D.200.

    48. They built a weather study system to get .
    A. the earth's freshwater                              B. information about the weather
    C. ice samples from the peak                     D. the news about other countries
    49. Choose thy right order (顺序) according to this passage.

    C. the peak will be the best place for people to live in

    Passage4.
20.In the eyes of many foreigners,Chinese are the best hosts (主人)and the worst
guests in the world.They're not really bad guests,but because the guest-host relationship in
China is much different than in some western counties,it appears they are not nice guests.
And western guests sometimes look rude (粗鲁的) in the eyes of Chinese guests.
    In China,guests are almost like gods.Whenever I enter a Chinese person's home,there is always
fruit on the table for me,and someone is quick to bring me a cup of tea or water. In the west,
generally the guest is not a god.Acting according to the host's way of doing things is usual behav
    ior for a guest.
My wife's mother,a very kind elderly Chinese lady, doesn't smoke. When I see some of her
guests smoking in her house,as a non-smoker,I feel unhappy.Usually I want to stop them
directly, but I must realize that in China,to be a good host, she must not do that.
In most North America homes,if you are a guest, and the hosts are not smokers, you should
not smoke in their house. At the very least, you could ask,"Is it OK if I smoke?""But,don't be
surprised if they say,"No,you can't smoke."In our culture,if you smoke  in their home,
you are a bad guest, but if they don't allow you to smoke in their house, they are not a rude guest.
Guests in China also have special habits. Some western people may not   adapt to  these habits
very soon.Thankfully my wife is Chinese,so whenever we visit a Chinese family she tells
me to buy them a gift.However,giving a gift to a host is not always necessary in my country.
So,if you invite international guests to your home, don't be too surprised  if they don't bring
you a gift.In China,you probably won't need to change the guest-host relationship very much
because you will probably only be the host, and Chinese are naturally very good hosts.
If western hosts invite you to their house, try not to be too surprised if their style of treating
you is not what you have expected.
    51. Many foreigners think that Chinese hosts are the___in the world.
    A.best              B.worst     C.most natural      D.most difficult
    52.When a western guest visits a Chinese family,he often .
A.buys some fruit  B.feels like a god   C.wants some gifts       D.takes a cup of tea
53.If the writer's guests want to smoke in his house,what will he probably say?
A.It's OK if you smoke here.B.Let's smoke together.
    C.Sorry,you can't smoke here.D.Smoking is a bad habit.
    54. What is the meaning of the underlined phrase"adapt to"in the passage?
A.think back to          B.get used to       C.look forward to        D.keep close to
55.What is the main idea of this passage?
A.Foreigners should learn from Chinese.B.Hosts must do things in the guest's way.
C.Western hosts are always nice to guests.D.People should understand cultural differences.

    IV.阅读理解(共30分,每小题2分)
    Passage 1 阅读短文,回答问题
Knowing yourself means not only that you find out what you're good at and what you like,it also means discovering what you're not good at and what you don't like. Both help you to see your goal in life.
Although most students would be unhappy if they found that they had failed an advanced math course ,they have actually learned a great deal about themselves. They know they should not become engineers or physical scientists and that they would not be bood at accounting work .So failing can help a student to lead a much happier life if he or she draws the right conclusion from the failing. They may then decide on their goal and choose the kind of work they would like to do.
It is impossible to decide wherther or not you like something until you have tried it .If you decide that you would lide to play the violin ,you need ti take more than one lesson before you can know whether you have any interest or ability.
It's not enough to want to be a great violinist .You also have to like the hard and long training before you become one .If you would enjoy being a great violinist but hate the work, forget it .
It's a good plan to try as many ideas as possible when you are still young. And then you will come to a wise decision.
    91. Is it possible to decide what you like without trying?

    92. To decide what to do in the future, which is more important, to find out what you like or to find out what you don’t like?

    93. In which way is failure important to people?

94 How can you find out your true interest s?

In the year of 2020, the coronavirus(新冠病毒)out broke(爆发)all over the world. A lot of people suffered from(遭受……折磨)a fever or a cough. Don't be afraid. Here is some advice to help you protect yourself.
Wash your hands. You need to wash your hands with soap and water before you eat, after you use the toilet, and after you touch animals, because your hands may carry viruses (病毒). Cover your nose and mouth. When someone sneezes(打喷嚏)or coughs, the viruses can travel as far as one meter through the air,so you'd better stand a proper distance while talking to someone who has a cold. And always cover your mouth and nose with a piece of paper when you sneeze or cough, and then clean your hands. Wear a mask(口罩). Some doctors say that masks can stop the virus as much as 80%, but if you don't wash your hands often, it's no use wearing a mask. So it's necessary to wear the mask in the groups of people.
Do sports often. Exercises will help make your body strong enough to resist(抵抗)the virus.
