My first jb was wrking at the Ukiah Library when I was 16 years ld. It was a dream jb and I did everything frm shelving bks t reading t the children fr stry time.
As I grew lder and became a mther, the library tk n a new place and an added meaning in my life. I had several children and bks brught great pleasure t them. It was a big deal fr us t lad up and g t the lcal library, where my kids culd pick ut bks t read r bks they wanted me t read t them.
I always read, using different vices, as if I were acting ut the stries with my vice and they lved it! It was a special time t develp a clse relatinship with my children and it filled them with the wnderment f bks.
Nw, I see my children taking their children t the library and I lve that the excitement f ging t the library lives n frm generatin t generatin.

Hw wuld yu feel if smene decided t take away yur park? Well that's what's happening in my cmmunity. There's a park that sme peple want t turn int a glf curse (高尔夫球场). Let me tell yu why I think it's a bad idea.
First, a park is meant t be fr the whle cmmunity. Nt everyne likes glf, s nt everyne will get t use the park. This isn't fair. A cmmunity park shuld have pen spaces fr everyne t use.
Secnd t make way fr the glf curse, lts f playgrund equipment (设施) will have t be mved r kncked dwn, which is a waste f time and mney. It's als a waste f perfectly gd equipment. The swings, fr example, will prbably just end up as litter.
Third, what abut giving yung peple smething t d? Nt all kids are crazy abut glf. At the mment, the park has a skating place and a playgrund. These attract lts f kids frm the cmmunity. If yu turn the park int a glf curse, these kids wn't have anywhere t g and they wn't have anything t d.
This means that they will stay at hme and turn n a vide game rather than get sme exercise. It als means that they might be ut n the street causing truble. Wuldn't it be better t give them smething t d at the park?
Finally, glf is expensive. Building a glf curse and maintaining (维护)it csts a lt f mney. Wh is ging t pay t maintain the glf curse? What abut thse peple wh can't affrd t jin a glf club? That means that the glf curse will nly be available t peple with lts f mney.
Turning ur park int a glf curse is a bad idea. I suggest we have a cmmunity meeting befre plans g any further.

I lve snakes. My mm certainly des nt. When she was a kid, snakes used t hide in warm spts under the furniture. S she grew up afraid she’d step n a snake. I grew up hping I’d see ne…utside! Lts f peple wh are afraid f snakes have never even seen ne. S where des ur fear cme frm?
Scientists wnder abut this t. Their experiments with adults, kids, and even babies shw that it’s cmplicated(复杂的). Peple may nt be brn afraid f snakes, but we are brn able t see them quickly. In tests with pictures, peple picked ut snakes faster than they culd find flwers, frgs, and caterpillars. It wasn’t just snakes, thugh. Peple als fund spiders and angry faces faster than “safe” things like flwers. It seems like we find things that might be dangerus t us faster than things that aren’t.
Peple als learn t fear snakes faster than we learn t fear many ther things. We take ur hints(暗示) frm ther peple’s scared vices and faces. Sme scientists think we’ve evlved(进化) this way—faster t see snakes and faster t learn t fear them. After all, if we had t be bitten by a snake t learn that it’s dangerus, we might learn ur lessn t late.
S why des it matter if we’re afraid f snakes? It may nt matter much t us, but it matters t snakes. Peple prtect animals they like nt animals they fear. Snakes may nt be as cute as dlphins, but they’re just as imprtant t the envirnment. Snakes eat insects that are pests t humans. Snakes are als fd fr ther animals, s when we kill snakes, we’re hurting ther creatures t.
Hw d we get past ur fears t give snakes a chance? Scientists did a study recently where students f yur age went n a field trip. Guides helped them find and catch snakes in the frest. Everyne culd safely tuch and hld a snake. It turns ut that snakes aren’t s bad when yu get t knw them. Mst peple wh were afraid f snakes befre the field trip weren’t afraid afterward. In fact, snakes even became sme students favrite animal. Hmm, maybe I shuld take my mm n the next field trip.
Remember: Always respect snakes, whether yu’re afraid f them r nt.
