Ten years ago, many people thought that the age of the physical books (纸质书) was coming to an end. The objects that had been the companions (伙伴) of millions of 16 for hundreds of years were going to die out. Soon, we’d all be reading on little electronic screens and laughing at the memory of places called “ 17 ” and “bookshops”.
But it seems not true about the idea of the death of the physical books. At least in the UK, as The Guardian noted, sales of e-books are falling while sales of physical books are 18 . More surprisingly, it’s young people who are buying the most physical books. More than 60 percent of 16-to-24-year-olds 19 print books to e-books. There are many reasons and the most popular one is: “I would like to

If there’s a mark made on the pages from coffee or food, it doesn’t matter. These small
23 make our books even more personal. It’s just like readers of physical books make friends with them.
The “friendship” 24 people develop with books isn’t just about feelings. Research has shown that readers remember more information from reading physical books than electronic ones.
However, there’s no 25 that e-books are here to stay. They aren’t simply a “here today, gone tomorrow” thing. But it’s also certain that physical books, which have been in production since the fifteenth century, are here to stay, too.

China is famous for its food and has already given me many memorable experiences. There are lots of Chinese restaurants in Australia, but I was told that they were very different from what I would find in China. So I had no idea what I would be eating when I moved here.
And now, almost eight months since I arrived, I’m still discovering the strange and wonderful world of Chinese food. And I haven’t seen any local restaurants serving prawn crackers (虾片) or sweet and sour pork which I enjoyed in Australia.
Perhaps my most memorable meal so far was at a traditional hot pot restaurant. I have eaten plenty of hot pots before, but this one was really, really hot. My friends watched with interest as I tried duck blood, duck neck and duck intestines (肠). I would try anything once, so I was happy to give it a go. But I don’t think I’ll be trying duck blood or intestines again.
Walking through Wangfujing’s night market in Beijing was another interesting experience. I tried scorpion (蝎子) on a stick, sea urchin (海胆) and many other strange-looking animals. One thing I have noticed in China is that people love to eat everything on sticks.
But the thing I like most about Chinese food is that you don’t have to search very hard to find it. There are people selling delicious things on almost every corner, and there is always a restaurant nearby in Beijing.
It’s almost impossible to go hungry in China. The only question is: What should I try next?

More and more people in China are now sharing parts of their lives with the world by videos on their phones. Some people send videos of personal events like holidays and weddings.
Using live streaming (网络直播) is particularly popular among the people aged 18 to 35. The most recent example was the Olympic swimmer Fu Yuanhui. She did one-hour live streaming which attracted more than 11 million viewers.
What’s more, live streaming allows users to communicate with strangers and express themselves. A 19-year-old college student called Nic Li says she spends three to four hours each week chatting and singing with viewers through one app called Ingkee. “Sometimes I feel lonely and want to talk to people,” she says. “It feels nice when viewers are playing attention to me.”
However, there are worries about the misuse of live streaming. Papi Jiang promised to correct her unsuitable and impolite language after she was warned by government officials. As there are more than 80 apps and 300 websites for live streaming in China, the Internet regulator (网络监管机构) can hardly monitor the content all the time.
