I have always been big. I am comfortable with my body but there is a price to pay for being different.
In primary school, 1 was crazy about gymnastics(体操)and was actually the team leader in my final year, but I had to make up for my shortcomings. Long after the other girls had left, I would still be in the school hall, trying my best to practice again and again without the coach around. It took months to master the ribbon(带子)and in the early days, 1 always got my ribbon in a terrible knot(结). However,
I carried on and improved a lot.
Whenever I went up in a competition, I always got the sense that the crowd did not expect much from an overweight child in front of them. They talked about my weight in low voices. One man even said, “That's the ugliest leotard (紧身衣)I've ever seen and the elephant inside it seems to be much better!” Hearing their words, you could understand my feelings. However, I just kept silent because I decided to let my ribbon do the talking. I worked harder on my ribbon and it showed.
I was the winner in National Championship that year, but that was not the best thing I got from hours of tiring practice. The best thing was the knowledge that my body cannot decide who I am and should never limit what I can do. Society seems to believe that overweight people are unhappy with their weight and have low self-confidence, so they never count much. 1 do not believe that. I believe I can achieve anything because I am bigger than my body.

Erik Weihenmayer was born with an eye disorder. As a child, his eyesight became worse and then, at the age of 13, he lost his sight completely. However, he did not lose his determination to lead a full and active life.
Erik became an adventurer. He took up parachuting, wrestling and scuba diving. He competed in long-distance biking, marathons and skiing. His favorite sport, though, is mountaineering.
As a young man, Erik started to climb mountains. He reached the top of Mount McKinley in 1995 and then climbed the dangerous 1, 000-metre rock wall of El Captain. Two years later, while climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Kenya with his girlfriend, they stopped for a time at 13, 000 feet above sea level— in order to get married. And on May 25, 2001, at the age of 33, Erik successfully completed the greatest mountaineering challenge of all. He climbed Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world two years after he climbed Aconcagua, the tallest mountain in South America in 1999.
Erik invented his own method for climbing mountains. He carries two long poles: one to lean on and the other to test the way ahead of him. The climber in front of him wears a bell to guide him. Erik is a good team member. He does his share of the job, such as setting up tents and building snow walls.

It is possibly true that a straight-A student(学霸)is easier to get into problems caused by over control from their parents than an ordinary one.
Wang Meng was once a straight-A student who graduated from Peking University. He didn't have the basic ability of taking care of himself though he was almost the best in all his subjects. While studying in university, he was often laughed at by his classmates and roommates. He says he has so little self-confidence dial he cannot get along well with other people, and this is only part of his mental problem. According to his letter, his life has always been planned and decided by his parents. And they stick to what they consider best for him. Although his parents agree there are some problems with their education, they still take pride in Wang's wonderful grades.
Wang Meng's story has drawn attention from the whole society to the problem of children's development. Achieving a good grade is not the only purpose of life and it must not be regarded as the only way to evaluate (评价)the performance of the children. The boy tried his best to lift or push the branch, but he was not strong enough and he couldn’t move it. He said with disappointment, “You were wrong, Dad. I can’t move it.” “Try again,” replied his father. Again, the boy tried hard to push the branch, but he did not move it again.
“Dad, I cannot do it,” said the boy. Finally, his father said, “Son, I advised you to use all your strength. You didn’t. You didn’t ask me for help.”

When we ask for help and we are refused, it just means we have to ask at another time, or ask in another way, or ask another person.

More seriously, I feel like we don’t have much in common. She doesn’t always understand what I’m trying to say. What should I do?
Dear Jim,I know how you feel. It’s not easy being your age. And it’s not easy being a mother, either.
It’s common for kids to have trouble talking with parents. But remember, she’s nagging (唠叨) you because she just wants what’s best for you. Talking is her way to show love and care. And she also wants to know more about you. After a day’s work, she’s tired, too. But she will never be tired of caring about you. Kids should learn to understand and care about parents.
In my opinion, you should share school life with her. Then, you talk and she listens. Doing some housework with her is another good way for you two to know each other better. And if possible, often tell her your feelings about the things around you. Always keep in mind: be polite and patient.
