We sent Matt Dicksn ut nt the campus t find ut. We asked the students the fllwing questins: Hw des yur English teacher prvide cmments r pint ut mistakes in yur schlwrk? S1: Hi my English teacher usually pints ut ur mistakes r prblems in frnt f the whle class. And I have t say mst f her feedback is negative. T be hnest, I smetimes feel quite hurt by her negative feedback. It makes me lse cnfidence in myself. But I d understand my teacher's intentin. She is very strict and demanding because she wants us t be better learners. I really wish she culd be less direct and mre encuraging.S2: Well, fr any prblem my English teacher finds with us, she talks t us face t face. Althugh it is very demanding fr my teacher, it is mre effective than ther types f feedback. During the face-t-face cmmunicatin, my teacher tells us exactly where ur prblems are and hw we can imprve. It als gives us an pprtunity t raise further questins abut anything we dn't understand. I think this kind f feedback is helpful. I lve it.
S3: Err, my English teacher ften gives very general cmments such as “gd, excellent, well dne”. He desn't pint ut my mistakes and give suggestins. Hwever, a simple “gd” r “bad” is nt enugh fr me. I want t knw where my strengths and weaknesses are. I think teachers' feedback shuld be specific. Fr example, he can highlight my mistakes and say things like “yu need t wrk n the past tenses sme mre”. In this way, I knw where I need t imprve.
